24H Of The BEST Food in Palermo, Sicily (Italy’s Food Heaven!)
Oh yes. My gosh. We didn’t think anything could top pasta in Rome or pizza in Naples. And then we went to Polarmo. It will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about Italian cuisine. I’m done. I’m done. I’m done. From gelato and bread for breakfast to the most unique pasta we’ve ever tasted. We’re taking you through exactly where to eat in Calmo so you don’t waste a single bite in Sicily’s most slept on city. I’m so full, but we’re doing this for you. We’ve got 24 hours to eat our way through some of the top rated restaurants in Polmo. Starting with a traditional Sicilian breakfast and having lunch, dinner, and everything in between. We’re in [Music] Polmo. Yes. Love it. It’s my dance. [Music] If you watch our Sicilian road trip video, you know we fell in love with bri with grenada for breakfast. It’s really a traditional Sicilian, almost a ritual. They view it as like a coming together for breakfast or snack. And it actually started in the Middle Ages when people took snow, mix it with fruit syrup, and then stored it in little holes in like the mountain. That’s got a really interesting tradition. And it’s a nice sweet, tasty way to start your day. It’s so good. It’s like gelato but like mixed with a slushie. You can tell that this like brios is like it’s handmade. Yeah. It’s so fresh. This bri is like unreal. It’s so fluffy. Oh my gosh. So sometimes Sicilians do granita and sometimes they do gelato in their bio and we couldn’t decide which one and we’re on vacation so we got both. This is a big baby. I’m going in. Got my nose and I’m not mad about it. That gelato. Look how creamy it [Music] is. Oh yes. We’re really enjoying this. And it’s so good. This is way different than an American ice cream sandwich. Kayla, what do you say there? It’s almost like a like a ice cream between like a cracker, but this is like actual bread. Like a bread. It’s actually this. It’s like it forms around it. It’s like a bread hug. It’s a bread hug. And then there’s [Music] [Music] Polmo is a land of markets and street food. We have a whole other video dedicated to street food in Polmo, but if you only have 24 hours, you should check out Valaro Bolero. Tell us in the comments how to say it. It’s one of the most famous. But today, we’re focusing on restaurants. So, let’s go get some lunch. I think we should have shared. We have sandwiches. Like the biggest sandwiches I’ve ever seen. These are freaking math. Should have said shared them. Save a buck. Pro tip. This movie full for days, right? Good thing we have dinner reservations in like 3 hours. Yeah. This is Ricasha Danti. The best kind of restaurant. It’s literally a hole in the wall that they make fresh ricasha like as you order it. And they have like pre-built option. But what we really like is you can build your own sandwich, which is really rare in Italy. Let’s see if it’s worth the hype. Mine has a little bit of prudo, some grilled veggies, a little paponado, which is a very Sicilian eggplant, sweet and sour sauce, and some salty pecorino. And Kayla basically has the same thing cuz it sounded good. Literally the exact same thing except she has some extra zucchini. Yeah, that’s it. Let’s go. Oh yeah. Okay. Okay. I’m done. I’m done. I’m done. That’s so good. Ben, the bread is crispy and soft at the same time. So much meat. Sweet and salty eggplant. That’s phenomenal. I want all of this. Uh-huh. Maybe. I’m actually glad we didn’t share. Cuz I want this all to myself. Mhm. Nope. My face. We’ve tried some of the most popular sandwiches in Roman Florence, and these were the best we’ve ever had. The food in Polarmo easily compares to some of the more popular cities in Italy. For all our history buffs out there, make sure you visit the Tiatro Masimo, which is the third biggest theater in all of Europe. And if you’re not a history buff, it was also a scene in The Godfather. Yay. Hydrating with healthy lemon cello before the real lemon cello. It’s dumb. You’re dumb. Is that fine? Oh, hello. K is like the famous spot to get orange. Uh, if you’re in Katana or other parts of Italy or Sicily, I guess it’s areno or areninoa. If you say it wrong, you will get in trouble. So, make sure you get it right. And also in Katana, they’re tear dropped calmo. They are circles. This one is apparently really traditional film with some kind of uh beef stew thing. Let’s see what’s inside. Oh, yeah. I’m so full. But we’re doing this for you so that you can get the best food. Let’s go in. It’s like grandma’s stew hugged with like a saffron rice. Saffron is big in Sicily. Kind of floral, fragrant, fried. That’s good. Polarmo isn’t just Sicily’s capital. It’s the island’s cultural soul. A mix of Arab, Spanish, and Italian influences you can literally taste in every bite. It’s also one of the oldest cities in Europe with over 2700 years of history packed into the noisy markets, crumbling palaces, and some of the best food in [Music] Italy. As night falls, it’s time to head to Nana, which you need reservations to get in absolutely for sure. This place is known for their big portions, but their hearty, comforting Sicilian food. And to start, we have a little bit of malanzan, which is eggplant or aubberine, depending where you’re from, with a little bit of cheese and pushidto stuffed inside. Oh yeah. Look at that cheesy action. I love Italy and all their cheesy goodness. It’s the best. It’s so simple. Salty pushcido, kind of tangy eggplant, that bright vibrant tomato sauce with cheese. It’s so good. Servings are really big for the price. This is about eight bucks. And this is pasta con sarde, which is a super traditional Sicilian dish. Very unique to Italy. We have sardines, pine nuts, golden raisins, which is all the influence of Polarmo. Let’s give it a mix. So much pasta. Pro tip, share the pasta. And if you need more traditional food, make sure you check out our road trip video and tell us in the comments. Would you eat pasta with sardines or is that a little bit too out there for you? Okay, this is going to be a mess of of a bite, but whatever. We’re going in. Wo. Okay, so it’s fishy. It’s sardines. Let’s not sugar coat it, but not in a bad way. The pine nuts do bring up the spice kind of like Christmas spices in there. I’m not sure how to describe it, but it’s so good. You absolutely have to try this. Wow. Okay, what do you think of it? I haven’t even tried it. I’m kind of scared of this. It smells very fishy. So, I’m doing it proper twirl. Oh, yours is better than mine. What do you think? I can see the Christmy. You get like some fishy notes, but then it gets into the pine nuts. It’s very, very good. Uh, you definitely need to give this a try. I’m starting to name my teeth. Yes. Wow. There’s a party happening. But we need to get some protein. So, we got a big grilled calamari. Looks like olive oil, lemon, parsley. Simple, flavorful. Worst lemon ever. It has no juice. Let’s see. Is it cut with a butter knife? Yes. Good sign. Looks a little crispy. Little lemony. Crispy outside, soft, tender inside, but not like a tire. It’s really simple and it’s really delicious. To end our 24 hours of Polarmo, we of course have to have a drink. It wouldn’t be us without it. So, the place to be in Polarmo is Santa Maria Cocktail Bar. when we were at our 24 hours in Bari video, which we’ll link below. The bartender told us to come here and it is such a vibe. It’s very unique, very funky. And I have this really cool cocktail with this a Freddy Mercury with a little bit of fermented pineapple, gin, and some kind of cardamom vanilla syrup. Sounds spicy, sweet, and the best way to end the day. Yes, fresh, little funky like fermented pineapple and really refreshing and good. We’ve eaten our way through Rome, Naples, and Florence… But Palermo might just be Italy’s real food capital! 🇮🇹 What’s your favorite dish from Sicily—or what would you fly here to try?
Ps: This is stop one on our Sicily food tour series, and it’s only going to get wilder from here!
I don’t know how you guys do it! You find the best food and sooo much of it! Thanks for volunteering as tribute for us 😂😂
Have to try the brioche and gelato for real! I’ve only had it at Epcot but it’s sooo good!
LOL, favorite part = It's dumb, you're dumb!
YUM! Everything in this video looks so delicious! I would absolutely love to try the gelato with brioche – that combo would be so good! I need to visit Palermo just for that! Amazing video!
That is one heck of a breakfast. 😮 Sicilians know how to do it right. Definitely could easily split that sandwich, holy cow. Didn’t know that about the singular/plural of arancina. I don’t think we’d be able to do the sardine pasta, but everything else looked so tasty!
That brioche & gelato looks ah-ma=zing!!! Palermo is definitely on the list !! Thanks for the great information!
Oooh, I am so hungry right now! Great one!
Pasta con sarde is our traditional Xmas Eve pasta.
