Cab Ride Glacier Express Andermatt – Brig (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, April 2025, Switzerland) 4K

In this video you can enjoy the cab ride – train driver’s view from Andermatt to Brig on the famous Glacier Express traversing the Furka Base Tunnel in the resolution of 4K/60 frames per second.

Join us for the fourth section of our Glacier Express cab ride series, filmed in April 2025, as we journey from Andermatt to Brig. This segment showcases the engineering marvels of the Swiss Alps, transitioning from the high-altitude landscapes of Uri to the sun-kissed Rhône Valley in Valais.

The Glacier Express, often referred to as the “slowest express train in the world,” is a legendary direct service connecting the mountain resorts of Zermatt and St. Moritz in an eight-hour panoramic journey through the heart of the Swiss Alps. Operated jointly by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB), the GEX runs entirely on a meter-gauge network renowned for its engineering marvels and stunning landscapes.

Departing from Andermatt, situated at 1,435 meters above sea level, the train embarks on the Furka Oberalp line, operated by the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB). This route features the renowned Furka Base Tunnel, a 15.34-kilometer passage that allows year-round travel by bypassing the snow-prone Furka Pass. The tunnel, completed in 1982, descends to Realp and then continues through the Goms region, characterised by its picturesque villages and alpine meadows.
Brig, located at 678 meters above sea level, serves as a key junction in the Swiss rail network, connecting the Glacier Express to destinations such as Zermatt and Geneva.

Throughout this approximately 90-minute journey, the Glacier Express navigates a series of tunnels and bridges, including the 176-meter-long Rhône bridge east of Brig, highlighting the remarkable engineering feats accomplished over a century ago.

Note to Viewers:
I would like to inform our viewers that, for safety and security reasons, the passage through the Furka Base Tunnel is not included in this video. Additionally, due to an unexpected technical issue, the recording ends shortly before Bitsch station, just a few minutes before reaching Brig. I sincerely apologize for the interruption and appreciate your understanding. Thank you for joining us on this breathtaking journey through the Swiss Alps.

  1. Another exquisite video! Looking forward to the next one to Zermatt! Just one small correction: Oberalp is in fact the highest point of the line at 2044 m asl. Andermatt is at about 1450 m, while Realp (Furka base tunnel entrance) is at 1538 m, further on Zermatt is at 1610 m. This wonderful Glacier Express series started from St. Moritz at 1800 m.

  2. The running information about the altitude above sea level, given in an inset graphic in the lower- left-hand, is utterly false and must under no circumstance be relied on. To give just two examples, both from the first few minutes of the video: The altitudes of Andermatt (the trip's starting point) and Realp (the village before the train enters the Furka Base Tunnel) are given as 1660m and 2010m, when in fact they are merely 1430m and 1540m. What a blunder.

  3. Once again, a huge thank you for Part 4. 👍🏻😊
Another masterpiece by the track builders and engineers of the time. Best regards, and see you in Part 5. 🙋🏼‍♂️
