Am I In SINGAPORE Or India?! It’s Hard To Tell

good morning from Singapore guys i’m traveling
like a local today i’m taking a bus honestly it’s   too expensive to take taxis so it’s better to just
take a bus take a metro and the buses are actually   really nice here in Singapore they’re very clean
very orderly if it tells you it’ll be here in one   minute it arrives in one minute so I’m going
to be headed to an area in Singapore that I’ve   never visited and we’re going to be exploring
it known as Little India i heard a lot about   it last time I came people were like “You have to
visit it.” So this time we’re definitely going to   go check it out and explore try some foods talk
to some people so stay tuned we have arrived to   the Little India area and already I’m starting
to see all the vibrant colors of the buildings   uh that’s one of the very special things
about this area is all the buildings have   a very special color and it’s absolutely
beautiful from first glance like I said I   never discovered never explored this area so
I’m excited to walk around here and see what   we can what adventures we can run into but first
things first guys it’s still morning i’m hungry   and I have to eat and I need a coffee so I’m
going to this place known as the Tekka Center   the Tekka Center is actually an area where they
have foods and uh drinks and just places that   you can shop um it’s right over here i think
it’s this colorful building i’m going to try   to find it let’s see but you can see people
are already opened up for business hi boss uh   brother where is the Tekka Center tea center

like a much less chaotic version wow and this   place is already busy so many people here oo so
many good foods man so there’s a lot of famous   ones but most stuff is halal so that’s a good
thing everything here is halal I think looks   like all right what are we going to get that is

is more like Chinese not really halal and then   this side is a lot of Indian Pakistani and Malay
halal food so uh you have a choice whatever you   want you know you can find it here in Singapore so
let’s try out this roti or paratha egg and cheese   they give you a little bit of curry as well by
the way guys I hurt my wrist playing basketball   and uh it’s making it very hard to vlog you

enjoying your breakfast lunch brunch wow it reminds me of the paratha and cheese
paratha that I tried in Malaysia as well   very similar um I think Malaysia and Singapore
cuisine is not so different especially some of   like these local street foods is this
place always this busy even on weekdays seems to be a very uh popular place [Applause] no better way to start the day i’m Pakistani

maya yeah yeah i’ve vlogged in Singapore before   also but last time I didn’t uh I didn’t cover
uh Little India so this time I will explore   Facebook huh uh YouTube yeah okay brotherama
thank you all right guys here we go now the   day has officially started i got the coffee in
me this is just like a local you know nothing no   specialty coffee but for two bucks can’t go
wrong with it man but yeah that’s the other   side where they have like non-hal food and
more Chinese-based that’s the beautiful thing   about Singapore it’s literally a melting pot of
culture since its original time like the Indian   people have been here since the early 19th century
you’re talking the early 1800s this used to be a   uh settlement for English people or the Europeans
they would come and build their homes here   but because of its proximity to the river uh a
lot of Indian merchants started trading cattle   so this was a very big area for trading cattle and
they still have till this day butchers and you can   even see from the historical pictures they show
a lot of butchery a lot of butchers cuz that’s   what this area was known for you can see these are
all pictures of butchers and over time it became a   bigger market now there’s fruits and vegetables
and food and all different kinds of things here are you here you’re a butcher ah looks like mostly
this market is butchers yes from original time yes   go ahead early time yeah you’re from Singapore
yes I am ah very nice i’m just making a video   about Little India i never I never explored this
area so see where you from uh I’m I’m from America   but originally my family is Pakistani and you
100 years born and raised yes very nice and   what makes somebody Singaporean what makes you
Singaporean like what is a habit or something   that people say or do clean yourself safety
safety so cleanliness and safety yes that’s   true it is definitely the most clean country I’ve
seen in Southeast Asia okay boss salamkum thank   you and this is why this city stays clean because
they keep garbage cans everywhere a lot of people   a lot of cities can learn from that all you got to
do is just put a few garbage cans around sometimes   I go to some places and I’m carrying my garbage
for hours with nowhere to throw it but anyh who   amazing breakfast amazing coffee and now the sun
is out and it’s getting hot welcome to Singapore   so throughout Little India there’s these little
small streets that cut through the larger streets   and if you walk through you see a lot of these
colorful buildings so this one is in particular   is known as Tantenia the house the former house
of Tania it is actually uh was built in like the   late 1800s and it’s the last remaining Chinese uh
style home this was actually a Chinese businessman   who owned this house and he built this house
now I think it’s just a a historical building   but it’s beautiful very very colorful i mean look
at just look around and you see all the different colors i don’t know if you can go inside but very beautiful you know what’s amazing you have
like these uh halami shops you have these Hindu   uh like shrine shops and it’s really amazing to
see like all the Hindus and Muslims coexisting   together um all the all the ways that they try to
like separate us and make us feel like you know   we’re enemies but when you see people living and
coexisting like this you realize like no we’re all   the same you know we come from very similar places
just a little bit different but we can everybody   can coexist and and live together if you want
to look at this wall art amazing see the lady   making the roti the guy rolling out the the dosa
and then right here people preparing the flowers   a lot of beautiful wall art look at this street
so charming this area has a beautiful charm to it   and actually uh a lot of Singapore is very
modernized now but this area holds its   like original charm in some ways you know the
buildings a lot of them are like the original   ones from back in the early 1900s so very cool i
love these small little streets that you can walk through so many barber shops everywhere i’m
very tempted hi boss how you doing are you   uh cutting hair yes you cut here can you do
my beard okay yeah how much for the beard $8   $8 for the beard only beard beard only but
$8 for haircut and beard $8 too much bro how   much for the beard $8 $8 too much bro sorry
sorry $8 for the beard no that’s too much man   normally if they charge $8 for a haircut then the
beard would be a little bit less but I don’t know   i guess welcome to Singapore where things are just
a little bit more expensive you know so this right   here is actually a very old temple uh I don’t
know the name of it i think it’s it’s actually   a pretty difficult name to pronounce it’s a Tamil
name it’s called Sri let’s see guys i need help   with this one sri Vira Maliamar Sri Vira Malyamar
temple and looks like people are here for worship   i don’t have uh full pants on so I don’t want
to go inside but you can see it’s very beautiful   typical Hindu temple but this temple has actually
been here since 1881 imagine that guys it’s that   old and I don’t think they’ve like updated or
changed it it’s uh it’s still pretty OG sri Vira   Mali sorry how do you say the name of this temple
uh Vira Makali Temple vira Mali vira Makali Temple   temple vali it’s a little bit difficult to mali
amali aman temple thank you thank you brother   and so it’s a pretty long name so I was asking
I just wanted to see if I’m saying it correctly   or not but you can see it’s really beautiful
people are going in to make their worship i   don’t want to disturb but I think they also
have time for visitors to go in as well and   guys literally you walk down the road a bit and
you have a beautiful masjid here known as Mazjid   Angulia also a very historical building you
can see it’s like a Indo Islamic architecture   looks like a lot of the mazjids you would even
see in uh India and uh this was actually built   also in like the late 1800s uh late 1800s to
early 1900s and it’s beautiful hello brother and this is just a example of the coexistence as
I mentioned before like I said we had the famous   Hindu temple and right down the road we have this
beautiful masjid mashallah which I’m going to try   to go inside hello boss how are you nice to meet
you yeah nice to meet you what’s your name my name   is Ail Indian word yeah I can say you are from
I’m I’m uh from US but originally my family is   from Pakistan pakistan you’re my brother we are
brothers are you from Singapore or yeah new Born   in Ah you’re new india Pakistan but we are from
Oh that’s what I want to show people see they   India is my brother pakistan Pakistan my brother
we have no problem that’s problem that’s only they   show on the news and they try to make a problem
same blood we have same blood thank you brother   thank you nice to meet you byebye so that that’s
just an example man like don’t listen to the news   and the media man indians and Pakistanis were like
literally pretty much the same people so they try   to create tension but there isn’t all right I’m
going to see if I can uh find a thing to cover my   legs cuz I’m wearing shorts it’s way too hot to
be wearing pants out here so I just wear shorts   covered my legs so I’m going to make my way inside
this Gulia masjid so I can pray but also show you guys what this masjid looks like so wellkept so clean it’s one thing in Singapore everything
is so wellkept well maintained wow mashallah   look at this it’s the main prayer hall they
have the AC on so it’s nice and cool so nice beautiful obviously they’ve uh renovated
it since the 1800s this is definitely not the   original from the inside but from the outside
I believe it’s pretty original you guys can   correct me if I’m wrong those who are from
here and I guess upstairs is where the women   pray and I’m going to take refuge for a bit
get out of that sun one thing that’s very   interesting is every mazjid that I’ve
been to in Singapore they always have   like a terrace where you can come out and
just like overlook what’s going on in the world it’s very beautiful so right now guys I
am actually walking to a very famous I guess   you can call it a shopping mall here in the
Little India section it’s known as the Mustafa   Center right here and it’s actually a 24-hour
shopping mall meaning it’s open at all times let’s see mustafa center oo and honestly
I’m being being cheeky cuz there’s   AC in there as well so it’s so hot
in Singapore guys when that sun hits   you and the [Music] humidity
let’s see how do I get in here so basically this place just has all kinds of
stuff makeup cosmetics electronics and it’s packed it’s 24 hours so you can come here at
any time and buy chargers how much is this 29   Singapore dollars uh probably not the place you
would want to do this kind of shopping cuz things   are very expensive here $69 for this that’s
crazy yeah um but you know that’s Singapore how much is a mouse it’s not bad
$20 for a Bluetooth no this is not   a Bluetooth the Bluetooth one is $26
it’s still not too bad it’s pretty reasonable you got some lighters
some Zippo lighters and then got   some jewelry some watches
just everything under the sun this is the Mustafa Center
and this is just the first floor   there’s like I think there’s two or three floors oh you’re from India which part of India are
you from do you know Bangalore bangalore yes   yes yes and are you visiting Singapore yes how
is you how are you finding Singapore good good   would you live here or No no no first time I
just to visit just to It’s expensive though   expensive and you have to walk a lot yeah
you have to walk a lot that is the like pain point like every 2 hours 3 hours I have to
feed them something yeah yeah yeah to keep   them alive and it’s second thing what I observe
people are a bit like they’re not very helpful   if you ask something they’re not responding
yeah yeah yeah i think it’s a bit cold you   know because I think all cities like big cities
they become like that right bang is also like   that bango Delhi are very helpful people are
very helpful here yeah i guess maybe it’s just   the the culture here i also noticed that too yeah
their response is no yeah yeah yeah i guess Yeah   you know I also feel that in in here also a
little bit yeah yeah okay okay brother nice   to meet you thank you bye-bye yeah guys this is
Little India in Singapore i mean the place that   was built off of merchants trade mainly cattle
is still It’s still that still a place where   people are running their businesses selling
all different kinds of goods coming from all   different parts of the world tailor textile
food drinks jewelry electronics everything as   you saw in the Mustafa Center um but yeah it’s
a beautiful beautiful neighborhood with a lot of   examples of coexistence and amazing food as well
definitely got to come try it out guys if you   come to Singapore but with that being said guys
I’m going to wrap this video up more Singapore   videos coming so stay tuned we’re going to try
to discover as many different areas as we can   in this beautiful country this beautiful island
and remember guys continue to learn continue to   grow and there is no growth until you leave your
comfort zone i’ll see you guys on the next one

  1. I remember a student was printing a school project at home when his printer ran out of ink at 11pm.. he needed to submit it tomorrow and the only place he could get his hand on a spare cartridge at that hour ..he took a cab to Mustafa Center and got his printer ink and managed to print out his work to submit tomorrow.. its just amazing to have a always open mega mall.. you never know what you need at night..

  2. Nice Video brother! Here some recommendations to visit..Geylang Serai! This is malay district..i saw u went geylang bahru last time…but this area would be really nice! GEYLANG SERAI AND ALJUNIED.

  3. Myers you got to go out of the city center. Visit the residential areas like Jurong or even Woodlands. THE TRUE SINGAPORE EXPERIENCE IS THERE!!! Even if there is "nothing" to see, you experience REAL Singaporean life and living places. FYI if you go Woodlands, visit the Al-Ameen Restaurant. The butter chicken is sooo good lol. There is also Woodlands Waterfront.

  4. Hii Myer… local Singaporean here.Watch some of your vids .. You should visit the Housing estate area.. you get cheaper food and you can definitely experience how us local live our daily life. And we have plenty of halal food as well! Most of the fast food is halal… Hawker centre or food court (Kopitiam) usually have halal food too. Hope you enjoy ur stay here. Lots of ❤ !

  5. Just sayyin.. Most of the people you meet in Little India or around Singapore are not necessarily local. Their attitude or comments doesn’t reflect our mindset or experiences. Its messy really.. 😂

  6. You can easily tell, Singapore is modern, advanced, developed and very clean, India on the other hand is chaotic, dirty, noisy with 3rd world infrastructure. You obviously do not know what India looks like. JEEZ.

  7. stereotypes about Singapore is people thinking that every Singaporeans look like Chinese when there are literally also Singaporeans who look like Malays and Indians. Some people mistake it as a Muslim country because of the flag but the flag refers to young nation rising as well as democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. Singapore have 5 largest religions which are Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism and Hinduism.

  8. Your cool video I like. Singapore and India so much different.
Singapore is better than India because it's the country and city.
Indians everywhere any countr even here in my country. 👍
Nice video. Stay safe in Singapore.. 👍

  9. Outside the masjid the open field with currently has tentages has a history in 1986 a hotel called Hotel new world collapsed..33 people died.. they still use the space for Deepavali bazaars..

  10. i really hope you visit the heartlands. where the locals live. the hdb blocks (we call them blocks, not apartments).

  11. Hi. I appreciate your take on S'pore. As you walked by Norris Rd, there was Azmi Restaurant (you were chatting with a tourist fr India). When I was a kid, Azmi Restaurant was where to get the best chapathi & keema. I haven't eaten there for decades. Don't know if it's still the same. But it was my late grandmother's favourite chapati place other than ones she or her siblings made. She grew up in Gujarat, India. Do try it sometime. I've seen videos of people still raving about it.

  12. Bro, $8 to shave your beard, consider reasonably cheap. How cheap do you want? You cannot compare it to India or Pakistan. This is Singapore. Normally, a haircut for adults is around $12.

  13. Little India in Singapore was recognized as Timeout's Coolest Neighbourhood in 2022, ranking 19th in the world. It's a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood known for its bustling streets, colorful shophouses, and rich Indian culture.
