Siem Reap – Day 1: Oops! How cheap is that!? Pub Street!

Good morning, Cambodia. I am on the way to the bus station to take the bus from Penol Pen to Simre. So, super excited about that. But I love taking these tuk tuks and this driver has been awesome. Welcome to the Laty channel. My name is Simon and I’m your boots on the ground resource for traveling and living in Southeast Asia. I provide travel tips and a front row seat for you to see many of my adventures and misadventures. I hope my videos are entertaining and informative. Don’t hesitate to provide any and all feedback as it helps me grow as a content creator. And follow me on Instagram for quirky insights and updates. In this video, I show you my oops moment on the bus to Sim Reef. There’s also some tasty dishes. And I can’t believe the insane low prices of both local and western food. And finally, we ended with Sim Reap’s Pub Street, which can be as crazy or as mild as you want it to be. Guess which side I lean towards in this video. And please remember to always read the description in the video for more details. All righty, let’s go. Got a goodie bag with a croissant as well as a juice in here. And they’re also going to serve lunch [Music] soon. Alrighty, our bus just stopped for a little break here. Oh, this is [Music] nice. Looks like you can get some food, but I have not eaten lunch yet. Uh, and they give you a free lunch. Well, it’s part of the service. So, let’s uh let’s check inside this this cafe and see uh what they have here. It’s been a good trip so far. Pleasant uh experience. Soft cushion uh soft cushy chair. Maybe I should get an ice cream. It might ruin my lunch, but might be tasty as well. I’m in love with [Music] you. Let’s uh head on to the bathroom and we’ll go out this way. [Music] All right, I’m going to get an ice cream. But I’m not doing this for me, okay? I’m doing this for the channel. I’m doing this for for you guys so that you guys can um enjoy the experience. It’s a sacrifice. So, I hope you like it. 3,500. All righty. 3,500. So, that is 500, right? No, no, that’s 200. 100 200. Hold up. Here. Let’s Let’s give you this instead. Here you go. I’ll take that back. This is not for me. It’s for the channel. Woo! It is hot outside. And I guess I should get back on the bus. [Music] M Mat. It’s ice cold. So hard to break. But tasty. Yeah. You know, I had a coconut uh drink and that was noodles. Really good. I love drinking the coconuts here in Southeast Asia. It’s such a treat. And then getting to eat the flesh, the the coconut inside. The water is very good for the body. Mhm. Friday lunch is served. And I opted for the burger. Let’s see. Ooh, looks pretty good. Some tomatoes. They gave me some ketchup and a wet wipe. All right, let’s dig into this. Let’s see here. Oh no, it fell. Mhm. Oh no. I was really looking forward to giving you a review on the on the burger. I’m not missing anything. Margaret said I’m not missing anything. So um Yeah, it the patty just slipped out of the burger, which is I don’t know if that’s a good sign or a bad sign, but um anyway, that’s what’s h that’s that’s what happened, folks. [Music] I blame it on Margaret because she ordered the burger and I heard her and I was like, “Yeah, let me try that.” All right. So, next time order the fried rice. [Music] Oh, [Music] looks like we are here. Bus is getting ready to park. Welcome to Sim Reap. [Music] Woo! We are here and it is hot. H O T hot. I tell you that Grab app is so convenient. Oh, and this one’s got some AC blown here, too. So, the uh drop off location was only about is only I’m sorry, is only about a mile from the where I’m staying, right around the center of town. And the cost to get there is about uh 80 something cents USD. [Music] [Music] All righty. We’re going to try this restaurant. Try me. I got the tip from For Real, which is a pretty cool YouTuber that is well known in Cambodia. She and her husband travel extensively throughout Cambodia. And she mentioned that the pat thai is only $2.50, which it is, and extremely yummy. So, let’s go in and and check it out. It looks like some yummy dishes. [Music] And the price is right. This is all in USD. As I mentioned uh previously, Cambodia uses USD as well. So no need to exchange your money for Cambodian real if you are carrying US dollar. Oh man. Oh, this just looks so good. It’s hard to choose. But I am going to choose what uh for real mentioned is really tasty, which is the pat thai and pat thai chicken for $2.50. So I’m going to do that and then I’ll come back here and eat something else. Maybe I should do it in the front. There we go. All right. Hopefully, this is good. Sorry, I started eating [Music] already. This is so good. For $2.50, chicken tie thie. This is tasty. The Try Me restaurant. Here’s a piece of chicken. 12,000 real meal for $3. Got to love that. I’m in love with you. I’m in love with you. I’m in love with you. Oh, I’m in love with you. With you. [Music] [Music] M. Yum. Pizzeria. The red piano. 20 years of delivering great dining experience. The best woodfired crocodile pizza. What? People are having crocodile pizza. Land of the free and home of the burgers and [Music] fries. See what they got here. Man, that thing looks huge. $3.25. Oh, how cool is this? Oh, that’s your table if you want to eat. Oh, very cool. And the prices are amazing. $3, $3.50. [Music] $4 dishes. Come on. Pai seafood [Music] $3.50. Look at that. [Music] [Music] Five, six, or $7 [Music] massages. Looks pretty legit next to the 7-Eleven. Uh-oh. It’s got a foosball table. Should I go? Oh, it’s not tornado though. Can’t play with this [Music] one. But the vibes look pretty cool. Still early. Not even 8:00 yet. $5. So, three mini burgers for $5 and some French fries. I am a sucker for uh small plates, so anytime I can get a variety, I want to go for it. Awesome. All right, let’s see what we got here. What is this one? Let’s get a little ketchup. Oh, yeah. That is pretty tasty. That is a tasty burger. [Music] [Music] All [Music] righty. Delicious. So, I’ve always wondered about this Is this trend of charcoal bread, is it healthier or is it just a thing? Is it just a marketing ploy? I don’t know, but it’s working. Let’s get this third one here. I think this one’s chicken. Got a little ketchup. Well, this does not suck. Let me turn the camera around so you can see what I’m seeing. Yeah. Got the game on. Little active night life on Pub Street. Got to love it. [Music] Great. I’m in love with you. With you. I’m in love with you. With you. I’m in love with you. With you. I’m in love with you. I’m in love with you. So, I hope you enjoyed this video. Please comment. Please give it a thumbs up. And a super duper please subscribe. We’re almost to 1,000 subscribers. Woohoo. [Music] Oh, I’m in love with you. With you. I’m in love with you. With you. Oh. Oh, I’m in love with you.

Hi and welcome to the LAFTEE channel. My name is Simon and I’m an American expat. Much of my content is providing information on the low cost of living in Southeast Asia. I promote taking advantage of geo arbitrage, especially if you’re an expat from a developed modern country. Often, the prices are about 10-20% of what you would pay in your home country. So think about that for a minute. You’re paying 5x to 10x more in your home country compared to developing countries in SE Asia. Get out of the “rat race” and experience something else. In essence, I want to show you an alternative and perhaps more fulfilling way of life in developing countries. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal. And we get only one chance at it. Much love for your journey wherever it takes you.

  1. Downloaded the Grab app….is there a direct flight to Cambodia from the states or is it better to land in Vietnam first? Pub street looks like a great time and also subscribed to the YouTuber you recommended specifically for Cambodia. Also I don’t think you even spent $10 between lunch and dinner….such a bargain and looked delish🥰

  2. Siem Reap has so much to offer besides iconic temples 👍 it’s a beautiful city and peaceful, not over touristy places, pub streets and night market are amazing, specially streets food👍😍
