Take-off from Leeds Bradford Airport, West Yorkshire, England – 8 February, 2025: https://youtu.be/zNce1aWZYlk .

This film features the views from a Ryanair Boeing 737 as it takes off from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Leeds Bradford Airport (IATA: LBA, ICAO: EGNM) is an international airport located in West Yorkshire, England, approximately 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Leeds city centre and 9 miles (14 km) from Bradford. It serves the metropolitan areas of Leeds, Bradford, and the wider Yorkshire region. The airport is situated at Yeadon, on a hilltop with an elevation of 681 feet (208 metres), making it one of the highest airports in the United Kingdom.

Originally opened in October 1931 as Yeadon Aerodrome, the airport was used for both civil and military purposes during World War II. After the war, it resumed civilian operations and was renamed Leeds Bradford Airport in 1987 to reflect its dual-city service. Over the decades, LBA has expanded significantly, developing into a key regional airport for both domestic and international travel.

The airport has a single runway (14/32) which is 2,250 metres in length and surfaced with asphalt. Due to its elevation and location, Leeds Bradford is known for experiencing challenging weather conditions, particularly fog and crosswinds, which can occasionally affect operations. Despite this, it maintains a consistent level of service year-round.

Leeds Bradford Airport serves several airlines, including Jet2.com (which has its headquarters and largest base at LBA), Ryanair, Aer Lingus Regional, and TUI Airways. It offers scheduled flights to major UK destinations such as London Heathrow, Belfast, and Edinburgh, as well as international routes across Europe including Spain, Greece, Portugal, and Poland. Seasonal charter services also connect the region to popular holiday destinations.

The airport terminal has undergone multiple upgrades to improve passenger facilities, including check-in areas, security, lounges, and retail offerings. In recent years, plans have been announced to modernise the terminal further, with proposals for a more sustainable, energy-efficient facility to support growing passenger numbers.

Public transport links include regular bus services to Leeds, Bradford, and Harrogate, while road access is via the A658. Rail passengers can connect via nearby stations at Leeds or Horsforth, with onward travel by bus or taxi.

Leeds Bradford Airport plays a vital role in the regional economy, supporting tourism, business travel, and employment in the area. It handled approximately 3 million passengers annually pre-pandemic and continues to recover towards those levels as travel demand returns.
