This road is named after Julien Lacroix, one of the major landowners of the Belleville hill on which the street was created in 1868. The land was given to him by Charles X as a reward for his role in the restoration of the Bourbons.
This road, in the former commune of Belleville, was classified as a Parisian road on May 23, 1863, and took its current name by decree of April 2, 1868.
