ILKLEY is a BEAUTIFUL SPA TOWN in West Yorkshire

hello and welcome back to the channel and to our second full day here at Upwood Holiday Park near Howeth we had a lovely day in How yesterday it were like a 1940s uh theme and along the railway and that we went on a steam train and that so we had a wonderful day so that’ll be the video previous to this one today we’re going to go to Ilkley it’s about 30 minutes away from here but Karen’s always wanted to go to Illey so we’re going to have a wander around Will Illley and depending how time goes we might go somewhere else yet so we’ll see and the weather’s a bit dull today as well so we’ll see how things go so if you want to join us please go and watch this video and we’ll see you when we’re in Oakley bye for now we’ve arrived parked up in center of uh Elkley karen’s just gone to pay for uh parking ticket so we’ll explore Illey where is it 50 an hour yeah put three you can pay coins can you you could pay by cash as well it’s even more of a bonus 3 hours so we’ve paid till 1339 3 hours £450 right you ready i’m ready should we go to tourist information first yeah they should have got a map oh there’s a map there isn’t there somewhere check it out well so there’s a big car park in middle of town isn’t there empty shops anywhere main road through go down to Riverside Gardens first then hopefully Riverside Park it’s a bit quieter down here tiff tree sap all leaves are sticking to her feet cuz it’s tree sap unless it goes under i don’t know play park over there it goes out to a car park looks like you can walk on the road to other side it’s a nice open space though must have been yeah it looks a really good playground I must admit best playground I’ve seen for a long time it’s got two zip wires i know it is isn’t it nice calm river that’s the one that flows through Molt A N A N A N A N A N A N A N A N A N A N as well is I forgot what name of river is i think it is is it Nid or something the whole bridge here oh there’s a car park on that side as well plenty of car parking isn’t there yeah it’s good old bridge is it just a foot bridge right so you can carry on walking up a foot path following the Dale’s way then so we’ll explore the other way and then we’ll go up into town have a quick look down there yes there’s some good hills some nice houses as well isn’t there yes yes it’s quite an affluent area plenty of memorial benches isn’t there and trees it’s either River Warf or River Nid this one I don’t know which one it is riverside Bar casual dining and free house fish and chips right we’ll walk under the bridge to the other side and see what’s on the other side might be nothing but we don’t know until we get there we don’t so you managed to get to clear yeah we’ve passed through it two or three times but never stopped so we thought while we’re in the area we’ll come to Willey so we’ll go into the little archway where does it lead to a road know that some more green grass in that time past River sidewalk anyway yeah so they’re thinking changing wonder yeah there’s a lot of a lotments up there isn’t there not where it leads to this but yes I bet after heavy rain I think it could be a little bit uh more yeah little bit more water running down this river some houses for sale here look Karen nice river view yeah it seems very nice view seen what i never seen so much wisteria wisteria yeah yeah that’s Japanese is it way down or general gel that’s Yeah I think we might have come to the end it does go on a bit more [Music] but got to be wary of the uh time we’ve got on the parking ticket so it looks like this could be leads you up to a busy main road that’ll take you into city center or town center got a booth store so working his way back to town center now walton’s fine furnishing [Music] there a lot of independent shops isn’t there yes there are get right i’ve not seen many shops uh boarded up or closed no at the moment anyway right so that’s where we went down to Riverside Park [Music] so this goes up into town might have a drive over yep got a weird fish yeah we got um So that’s the old train station then looks of it yeah so it’s got a winter [Music] gardens isn’t it beautiful building i don’t know whether it’s just bus station oh it’s a train station train station just the old station building been turned into like a Marks and Spencers and Pizza Express and the post office right we’ll do a bit more exploring nice little place though it is a nice place yes like they say it’s a compact center but it’s got everything you want this is a nice little place must admit [Music] there old name flags around it didn’t there so this fountain was opened in April 2025 it’s not been open long then the original fountain was installed in 1865 but fell into disrepair the new gravity fed fountain was created by improving Oakley and funded by public donations so these must be all people or things that’s donated and that around it yeah so little garden here welcome to Miltgill it’s lovely little tranquil place isn’t it just off yeah flying water drowns out the road nice don’t think it’s very big but uh that’s a little tranquil place isn’t it it goes up under that bridge as well goes around let’s go a bit further i explore under the little bridge don’t know how far it goes on for i’ll go up that way and then come back down that way might take you out to Pontuk Mo yeah pont glimos i don’t think so no I don’t either but here we are at the top some stunning uh scenery around it though isn’t there oh it’s gorgeous yeah it’s lovely but there’s a lot of greenery as well yes there is a lot of greenery and a lot of hills we found Heath House where John Kungliffe children’s author creator of Postman Pat 1992 to 2018 there we are information on the house that’s where the author of Postman Pat lived right down the little devil so that’s it you found the house where the author postman Pat lived that will by pure chance just coming up a stingly devil oasis it is a little oasis i prefer this to Riverside Park like I say it looks like it all lights up at night doesn’t it well it’s been really nice it walking through here back to the hustle and bustle of the town center now that’s been a lovely little tranquil walk up there aren’t it right we’ll carry on walking around the town center get a better view at Fountain now big white uh planet trailers gone buy your Rolex there if you want yeah we’ll have to stick i’ll stick to me for a bit tomorrow it’s a nice treelined uh road isn’t it gorgeous isn’t it i’m not being disappointed no lovely church so now the sun’s come out what else can you ask for got betties tea rooms and bakery and I walk up to a little church it did say just a short walk didn’t say didn’t see say a big steep hill so he’s up here it’s a good job we’re used to elves isn’t it right that’s a stunning big building that one must be apartments that now it’s certainly a steep hill so that’s one hill we’ve gone up now we got to up another one and probably get up here and find out it should so we’re nearly there st margaret nearly up into the heavens i tell you what you got to be fit to walk around Oaklley or up up the hills of Oakley now the moment of truth is it open yeah so we are St margaret’s Parish Church Ilkley Hidden Gem hilley’s hidden gem [Music] yeah go through them glass doors it’s a lot easier oh I know that was a warm walk up that very nice stained glass window it’s worth the walk up karen’s having a sit down some good wooden beams up in them roof in there parts of the organ behind there keyboard for the organ very nice it’s a long walk but worth it that’s St margaret’s Parish Church we have a walk down through this woodland just go straight down yeah it’s not as steep as road we come up though it’s shady this way as well i wish I’d left me coating car it’s only a thin coat though yes you’re certainly surrounded by hills either side aren’t you yes there’s certainly some lovely properties isn’t there yeah yeah love those areas aren’t they so that’s where we walked up isn’t it or were it your next one down we walked up so we’re coming to the end now you want a coffee or anything or uh I need some water what I’ve got but you haven’t so yes we could have a quick look in here looks like it’s the memorial garden it isn’t it very nicely kept as it should be yeah yeah it should yeah i was surprised it would have been a spa town at one time this was it similar similar to Btonston and Harrier and things like that in it yeah dedicated to the servy man of Icle District who survived the great war of 1914 18 it is yes well I must admit I’m impressed yeah you see that’s a tick for me it is it’s a tick for Karen i know now I’ve done it so she’s happy now she’s done it i’m not being disappointed it’s always close isn’t it it is so walk down the left hand side back to the car park we got about 40 minutes to go what you found what you found what you found the old town the what that looks like the water yeah it doesn’t it i’m guessing cuz this Oh 1928 that’s all I can remember yeah 1928 so it’s some old fountain or something it’s certainly getting warmer isn’t it but these charity shops have got some good clothes in you’re not going in we’re running out of time on car park no I’m not i thought that but I ain’t got time to shop i’m not looking that’s f yeah it’s nice having these treelined gorgeous pavements and that is it reminds you of southpaw with canopies and that is it yeah and like you say arrogate get the queue this is some very nice shops isn’t there they are and it’s nice book shop oh no not white stuff no no don’t go in white stuff you got enough clothes you bought a load for the holiday this leads to the car park [Music] oakley shoe company right we’re going to call it for this video nice little walk around Oakley hope you enjoyed it cuz we did yeah you’re lovely so probably going to drive over Oakley more than that so I’m going to call it like I say finish this video here and we’ll see you in
