on June 14th 1940 the first transport of 728 Polish political prisoners arrived at Ashwitz marking the beginning of systematic extermination and one of history’s darkest chapters what started as imprisonment of Polish intellectuals and political opponents would later expand into the mechanized killing of over 1 million people making the state a turning point in the German Nazi regime’s genocidal campaign and a permanent reminder of humanity’s capacity for evil this dark episode demonstrates just how authoritarian regimes can quickly escalate from targeted oppression to the merciless crimes against humanity and it constantly reminds us that we ordinary people at every step must loudly speak out against the normalization of hatred and discrimination as today’s scapegoating may become tomorrow’s new horror [Music]
