welcome to the third part of our trip from Malmadi to Oen today we’ll stop by a couple of barrier lakes and the old castle of Marvin before visiting the capital of Belgium’s Germanspeaking community [Music] here’s the lak de lailep with this impressive lion telling everyone that This is Belgian and located not far from the old Belgo German border here we have the nearby barrier lake of Oen [Music] the old castle of Rahan just outside Orin is used as a pottery museum now and now starting on the viat plats which is a very good starting point for an excursion of the city and the price for parking was surprisingly low [Music] the town center has a lot of these impressive houses it seems many used to belong to families who had made their fortunes in textiles the city’s old economic backbone [Music] this building now holds the administration of the Germanspeaking community of Belgium [Music] just across the street there is this Protestant church which is currently under renovation [Music] and here we have Oen’s main Catholic church Zank Nicolaus built in the early 18th century [Music] [Music] this church here called the Church of the Immaculate Conception is a former collegiate church finally a little appetizer for the next videos coming up as on my recent visit I thought it a nice idea to introduce one of our favorite Sunday activities buying groceries in Belgium so please like and subscribe in order not to miss these videos thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music]
Finally, after some stop overs at a pair of barrier lakes and the old moated castle of Raeren, which nowadays houses a pottery museum, we get to Eupen, the political center of Belgium’s German speaking community.
