Intense First Day In Addis Ababa Ethiopia!!

my Amharic goes No goes Gobez No Yeah Go Arif
No Okay She says it’s good Pick No No I swear I swear bro M Miguel you’re going to make me upset
bro Please Because you know when you make the commitment you want to help your country You want
to help your family You want to help your people You know you don’t get the access so many times If
you don’t have the access then how can you do it salam no Good morning Very early morning here
in Addis Ababa Ethiopia Just landed after a long trip from Asia Southeast Asia all the way out here to
Bole International Airport Guys I’m back Back again Actually every video I drop for the last
two years people have been asking me “Myer when are you coming back to Addis Ababa when are you
coming back to Ethiopia?” Huh no brother Thank you The best You have the best rate What’s your
rate 132 I think I can get a better rate outside bro Uh it’s a black Ah why don’t you exchange no
problem I check with my friend If it’s no good then I come back to you Okay Thank you brother
So yeah guys Um it’s been a long time since I’ve been back in Ethiopia And actually just from the
looks of it I can see that they’ve updated this airport quite a bit since the last time I was
here But yeah it’s about 5:00 in the morning I just landed I’m very tired as you can see
from my eyes I didn’t get much sleep And uh I’m going to head over to my hotel
which I will show you guys But as usual this customs line is super long I’m going
to see if I can fight my way through here Look at that sun rising guys The beautiful crisp
air here in Ethiopia Such a pleasure to be back here It’s been like I said 2 years since I came
back here And I haven’t felt this air The air here is a very special special feeling I’m telling you
Ethiopia Addis Ababa specifically is a very high city in altitude It’s one of the highest cities in the
world above sea level So when you when you come here you really feel the crispness and clarity
of the air Also you run out of breath quickly too That’s why this country produces some of the
best long-distance runners because just walking here you will get winded So beautiful The weather
is so nice Like I said I’m coming from Southeast Asia where it’s humid and hot So it’s just uh such
a pleasure to be back So I’m waiting for my friend Iskinder my driver but more like honestly my
brother My friend at this point So I’m going to go meet him right now Got to walk down this
way Man look at that beautiful sky See brother I’m already have brother Thank you This is the
area for the taxis I’m waiting for my brother Eskinder should be here God this airport is a
lot bigger than I remember Yes boss Eskinder Sal I didn’t even recognize you Yeah that’s that’s how I came here Oh my god you lost so
much weight guys This is my brother Guys we are driving through downtown
Bole Addis and I don’t even recognize it I can recognize the streets but the the lights
the buildings everything the just looks Yeah Before we Before we Yeah Yeah I want to just
take a quick drive through It’s early morning guys I’m going to go back to the hotel I need
to rest But look at this man When I first moved here 7 years ago 8 years ago I used to live
in Addis Ababa This road was nothing like this It was still unpaved They didn’t have these
lights didn’t have these lines I mean this looks like a road in Dubai now It’s amazing
This looks like a road in Dubai Amazing man Thank you for coming man Look it’s 5:00 in the
morning but I woke his kinder up to come pick me up And he he didn’t even hesitate
He said “Okay I’m coming.” That’s why he’s my brother man I don’t trust anybody
else at this time you know it’s too early See you uh when you arrive uh in the afternoon
Yeah afternoon I call you All right guys So I’m staying here at the Moonlight Hotel This welcome
my brother Thank you brother Thank you Thank you I still have my uh hay So we are in the Haya Hulet
area here in the Moonlight Hotel Salam no and I have booking Airbnb You know so yeah guys I’m going to show you what
the room looks like and tell you how much I paid and then I need to rest I’m tired Very
tired Betam long flight This is what the room looks like right here in the Moonlight Hotel
Now one thing in Addis Ababa the lighting in a lot of these hotels is never great you know but
we got some daylight cuz the sun is starting to come out here in the beautiful city of
Addis Ababa I have a nice balcony too Very nice balcony Look at this Can see the city from
here So nice to be back here guys Amazing But yeah I paid uh I think I paid about $20
a night for this $20 a night is what you get here Now there are more expensive hotels but
this is a little bit more on the budget side you know Bathroom is decent Toilet’s on a
little angle there as you can see you know so you can fit Got a nice standup shower with
the hot water tank Is it on that’s the question Hopefully it’s on I think so But yeah got a little
seating area little bed So comfy guys I need to rest I haven’t slept I’ve literally been traveling
for 15 hours Ah I miss this sound The smells of burning garbage and the food breakfast being
cooked and the sound of the churches the priests Ah this is Adis Look at this man They were kind
enough to bring me a nice little fresh breakfast before I hit the bed cuz I haven’t eaten to be
honest I’ve just been traveling So and they got me a nice fresh papaya juice The fresh juice here
in Ethiopia is so good cuz the fruit is so yummy And I’m not a big fan of papaya but that’s
really good All right guys After a nice little rest I am back out in the streets of
Addis Ababa It’s been a long time guys I’ve been vlogging all throughout the world but
I haven’t salam but I haven’t vlogged uh here I’ve been vlogging
throughout Asia for a long time I haven’t vlogged in Africa in Ethiopia in a long
time It’s been like I said almost over 2 years And uh first things first I got to go get some buna (coffee) I need some buna I think right here they
have some traditional buna ceremony Oh right here Salam And al I make
video Okay Okay All right So the lady here fresh Fresh No No Okay
So I’m going to sit down here and have myself some fresh buna So first
they put it in the pot Muna Uh in here I think they put the coffee in
here Then they put it over the charcoal and then she waves it with her
hand to get the charcoal nice and hot and then inside the coffee will start to boil
This is is a jib jaba No Jabena Yeah So this this traditional pot is actually called jaba Jabna
is like the pot that they’ve used in Ethiopia for hundreds and hundreds of years Ethiopia is
actually the birthplace of coffee Uh there was a region known as Kafa where there was a goat
herder whose goat used to go out with him and he would eat the coffee beans off of a tree And
as he would eat the coffee beans the goats would eat the coffee beans he would notice they would
get a lot of energy and he started to wonder like why why do these goats get so much energy
after they eat these so he started eating them and he would get energy and basically after
that they started roasting them and brewing them and you know centuries later we’re here
on the side of the road getting some fresh buna Merat very nice her
name is Merat you adaba very And so also the other thing that’s part of
the traditional bunna ceremony is they light this incense This incense gives a nice
smell So basically it kind of sets the mood So once when you smell this smell you
know that there’s buna close by being made Uh and center minute 5 minutes Uh uh zare uh
center jenna sale and sauce Uh 40 40 arba arba Wow Mashallah Much money Mizook Mizuk So she
said she sells 40 normally 40 of them in a day 40 of these So I think this probably makes
about maybe uh centa cup anjaba 10 30 30 30 cups So each jaba has about 30 cups inside
of it So she sells about 40 of them a day So 40 * 30 would be 1,200 cups of coffee which
shows you how much coffee the Ethiopian people drink So they use these little cups This is like
a traditional buna cup Bunda just means coffee in Ethiopian the birthplace So my Amharic I still
speak a little bit but I forgot a lot I used to be very good at speaking when I lived here
but now uh after some time I I lost my skills I’m trying to practice talking to people but
uh sometimes I feel a bit embarrassed because like I said you know uh it’s been a long
time But Merat been so nice She’s so nice My Amharic goes no Gopz No Yeah Arif No
Okay She says it’s good Arif Okay And now she will put the coal on the incense to
give the give a nice smell in the whole area This is part of the ceremony You’ll
see the smoke rising And basically what you’re supposed to do is kind of waft the
smoke to your nose and smell it because it’s a very nice smell Uh there you go
That’s the That’s the smell right there Such a nice smell That that smell
literally makes me like I’m like “Okay now I’m in now I’m in Ethiopia
Look at how dark that roast is Okay Very good No I feel you want Okay sit down Sit down I buy you one Bekele Bekele my name Myer my friend
Bekele joining me for a coffee In Ethiopia it’s like a very tradition you know
If someone wants to have coffee you let them join you You buy them a coffee you
know Very nice A uh sukar al one one shukar Oo ho Ethiopia coffee number one very good very good very good coffee of course of course youjo also of course the guy’s
like of course she’s also beautiful yes yes and And uh and cup no one Yeah One 30 salasa
beer Salasa So one cup for 30 beer I’m going to give her a tip though because
she was so nice Show enjoy Okay Tell I come tomorrow She was so nice I told her
I’ll be back cuz this is actually right by my hotel So I’ll be back tomorrow So but
actually I was talking to her and she told me like and I know this obviously I used to
live here I know that this area is probably not the best area to just be walking around
solo dooo But hey you know how we do it here on Myer Travels One thing about Ethiopia is
vlogging here is totally different Salamo and hello YouTube Noam Okay Okay Yellow Yellow Yellow Yellow Okay brother Salam

Yes Thank you very much Thank you brother And uh you know people here don’t like to
be on camera Like they’re very weary of the camera It’s one of the few countries that I’ve
been to where people will really really salam uh where people will really really get
weird about the camera They’ll be like what are you what are you doing like I
don’t know if it’s from their history We’re going to talk to some locals some
of my friends and we’ll find out why why that is because I’m very curious I never
I never knew Al Uh Makina I know Makina No Makina I think Makina is Makina Yeah Good
You good it’s a good Makina Strong Makina So they’re washing the car
Machina actually means car in uh in Ethiopian in Amharic It actually comes
from the Italian word machina Um it’s the same Look at this Just a random tree stump in
the middle of the road You can just sit down And then they’re selling some beautiful
fruits here I want to get some mauz (banana) Uh moose moose 1 kilo Uh

my palm How much is a phone like this almost 3,000 3,000 B Oh that’s not too bad Very good That’s
very good Yeah man This is old school stuff right here Yeah What is this like a Nokia Yeah Thank
you So guys I’m sitting down with a brother here from from Adisaba From Ethiopia What’s your name
gond From Gond What’s your name yonathan Yonathan We’re having a very good conversation off camera
which is something you have to do also A lot of people just want to do things for content but also
I want you I want to show you guys the reality of Ethiopia as well So brother you were telling
me what what are you so he’s an educated man We’re sitting here but you might think “Oh we’re
just sitting on the corner but this guy has been he’s more educated than most of the people who
are watching this video.” So what what are you educated in anastasia I’m I graduated Anastasia
from Black Leon University Adisava University Black Leon So you studied medicine medicine of
Anastasia So how long did your medical degree take 5 years Four years But uh there’s a gap
in one year with the corona thing internship uh covid thing Oh the co yeah the co incident it
makes it 5 years So you’re a doctor then uh not a doctor but doctor of anesthesia basically Dr
Yonathan Yeah We we have to respect Dr Yonathan Thank you Thank you So as a as a somebody who
practice anesthesiology do you practice in the hospital now here no Why not you know you don’t
have the access in Ethiopia What is the problem tell the tell the people because I’m sure they’re
curious You know there’s there’s the conflict You don’t want you don’t want to move from the
country to the countryside because there’s a conflict in Ethiopia nowadays There’s been some
disagreement between the people of something like like internal internal internal conflict So that
makes difficult for you to for a young generation Yeah For the young generation Do you think many
young people in Ethiopia have this problem many young people How old are you if you don’t mind me
asking 26 26 You look 21 You guys have good jeans I think if you shave your beard you will look
young Yeah I graduated in when I was 26 I got my anesthesia degree Okay I have been sitting
in for three years without a job But without a job Yeah You know I forgot I was playing football
you know alongside my also a good football player Yeah a good football But you know I respect
you because a lot of people in your position who have your education they will want to leave
Ethiopia too fast but you want to stay in your country You want to try to help your country
but it’s difficult But it’s not almost trying to help my country but you know there’s some kind
of problem You maybe you may not get the payment Maybe you you may not get the payance to leave
Ethiopia to live But as a young person who was a brilliant mind you want to sit here in Adis as
an educated person You want to help your country you want to help your family you want to help
your people you know of course you don’t get the access so many times If you don’t have the access
then how can you do it there are a lot of doctors I know without a job You know there are a lot
of anesthesiologists without I have a question If you had the opportunity if I said “Jonathan
I can send you to Europe tomorrow.” Would you leave yeah absolutely Because you need to make
money right yeah It’s my age How much does your position in Ethiopia how much can they make per
month per year what is the average salary 9,000 9,000 B 9,000 B But there is a government tax
which will make 9,000 B which in in US dollars it’s not even it’s uh almost $70 around $70 guys
for an anesthesiology position man Brother I hope that things get better and I hope that you
can stay in your country but if you have the opportunity I hope that you can go and work hard
make some money for your family and then come back and bring your skills back to the home I hope that
is there anything else that you want to tell the people about Ethiopia about Adis okay let me
tell you about something about Ethiopia Yeah Oh I offered him Yeah You know so one thing in
Ethiopia if you’re sitting down with brothers they’re going to always offer you some buna some
local buna And and it’s raining now So we’re going to try to we’re going to try this The name of this
restaurant which is owned in the new streets The new new streets New street Yeah You know this road
is called new street This is the busy Yeah [Music] Peace out Peace out Who is the boss how you doing brother so Yonathan was saying something before it
started raining What were you saying about about uh one thing about So sorry for disturbing the
video but I just want to talk you to tell you something about Ethiopia Come visit Ethiopia Come
visit the land of Jesus Come visit the land where coffee has been started which offering Thank you

months of sunshine It’s okay Sometimes sometimes enough sometimes rain but usually the weather
is very nice You know what once you have been to Ethiopia I think you are not going to get
out of this country You’re going to love the people You’re going to love the way we going to
love everything It will always call you back You know I left but I always come back Yeah Everyone
left At least everyone left out of youth you will come back You will come back I solidly come back
Definitely So please everyone from Europe from your come to this welcome come visit the people
of love the people of beauty the people of salah come visit Ethiopia may God bless our country may
God bless our land may God bless our people peace to Ethiopian people but you know one thing I saw
like you was asking me the positives of Ethiopia I it’s only been 3 And I think Ethiopia in the last
3 years Ethiopia looks very different like Ble and those areas they build it very nice Beautiful So
every time I come back something changes But yeah guys as Jonathan says you’re always welcome Come
to Ethiopia come to Adi Sabava travel around and the people will treat you with love and respect
and kindness and you just have to be kind It’s the land of smiles Peace Peace Thank you brother Thank
you so much Thank you for your All right guys I made it back to my hotel in one piece Wild time
though in this neighborhood of Haya As I mentioned it’s you know a lot of people were like “Just be
careful Be careful.” But you know as I do I like to get entrenched with the people man And most
people here in Ethiopia are good people as it is in any other country you know Finally I’m going to
try my watermelon that I bought from the gentleman Oh so good Delicious Conjo as the Ethiopians
