The Enchanted Rhine River Gorge: A Fairytale Come to Life
welcome to part two of our five-part series the most scenic cruise the Ryan River to Switzerland today we’ll make a brief stop in Cologne and then we’ll plunge into the Ryan River Gorge we’ll see castles scenic towns and the legendary Laurelai Rock then we’ll see a great monument at the very end of the cruise when we burst out of the gorge into the Ryan River Valley time to leave Cologne and here we go up river into the Ryan River Gorge [Music] [Music] heat heat [Music] heat heat [Music] heat heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] heat [Music] [Music] heat [Music] [Applause] heat heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] heat [Music] heat [Music] [Music] we’ve come now to the legendary very Laurelai Rock a 400 ft slate cliff on the edge of the Rine and it’s said according to legend to be the home of dwarves and sirens who lure errant boats to their doom there have been lots of shipwrecks around here so people always keep an extra care when going around the Laureli [Music] [Applause] heat heat [Music] heat up here [Music] at the end of the gorge 600 ft above the river is the Nethervald monument commemorating the unification of Germany in 1871 following the Francoressussian War it’s up a hill but we’re going to walk up there and take a look there okay that’s going to be very nice ending for us okay [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] heat heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] so after an afternoon of adventures we’re back at the ship [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
Today, we’ll leave Cologne, Germany, and plunge into the Rhine River Gorge, taking in views of the romantic Rhine, its many castles and picturesque towns, and the enchanted Lorelei Rock. We end at the historic Niederwald Monument. It’s easy to see why this area is a UNESCO world heritage list site!
