Karl Bushby – Walking through the channel tunnel

how is the british man who is attempting to travel around the whole world without taking any cars planes or any other mode of transport planning on crossing the english channel to get back to hull carl bushby started his journey 26 years ago at the bottom of south america today is day number 9,584 i believe and has so far made it about 80% of the way around to his end destination of hull in england along the way he has successfully passed through the most dangerous stretch of jungle in the world the darian gap and a frozen ice bridge in the arctic circle to pass from the united states into russia on top of this he also became the first man in history to swim across the caspian sea and last month he finally crossed into europe but has one final barrier waiting for him on the french coast how does he plan to cross the channel between france and england to get back to hull he could of course swim across the channel which should be easy compared to the caspian sea but his original plans lay out something much more unique he wants to gain permission to walk through the channel tunnel under the sea back to england now the channel tunnel has two train tunnels that run for 24 hours 365 days of the year so accessing them for a walk would be virtually impossible but there is another option along with the two train tunnels they have also built a smaller service tunnel that runs in between them amazingly this walk has actually been done in the past by members of the public in 1994 before the train started operating 118 people led by olympian daly thompson walked through the service tunnel from france to the uk to raise money for charity and more recently in 2015 sudin refugee abdul harun managed to sneak into the channel tunnel and walk over to the british side to seek asylum so for carl it is theoretically possible for him to use the tunnel to journey back to his hometown of hull getting the permission off the relevant authorities will undoubtedly be the hardest part of this but after they hear he’s quite literally walked all the way around the world to get there i’m sure they might come around drop a follow for updates on carl’s journey

Karl Bushby, a British ex-paratrooper and adventurer, is best known for his ambitious plan called “The Goliath Expedition” — a bid to walk an unbroken path around the world. His goal has been to walk from the southern tip of South America all the way back to his home in Hull, England, entirely on foot.

Crossing the English Channel – Bushby’s Plan (British English)
As part of his journey, crossing the English Channel presented a unique challenge. Since Bushby’s expedition aims to be entirely on foot, he couldn’t simply take a ferry or swim — both would break the “unbroken footpath” principle of his mission.

His plan to cross the Channel:
Using the Channel Tunnel (Eurotunnel): Bushby planned to cross the English Channel via the service tunnel that runs alongside the Eurotunnel (the rail tunnel that connects Folkestone in the UK to Calais in France under the Channel).

  1. Social media was in its proto-era when he began his journey. I can’t help but wonder what level of culture shock he’ll experience when he finally returns home to Hull.
