Berlin, Germany Travel Tips: Staying Safe & Healthy! #Berlin #Europe
[Music] welcome to RV and Travel Adventures i’m in Berlin Germany in my dormatory uh faculty housing here at the university has two bedrooms one very nice bath and uh a kitchen and we’re staying in one of the bedrooms the mattresses are rather thin they’re about this thick so we took them from the other bedroom we put them in this bedroom made them thicker so but I do like the bathrooms and showers very very nice water pressure for an old guy i love it absolutely fantastic the grocery store is about 3/4 of a mile that way it’s a Rayway and we’ve been shopping there has a very nice restaurant it’s a what I would consider upscale not luxurious but upscale grocery store and I’m recording this video in the kitchen because it’s has a nice blank walls so in this video I want to talk about Berlin Germany and essentially Northern Europe but travel tips northern Europe uh it’s very strange for for this old dude here i didn’t know sunrise was at 400 a.m and sunset was at 11:00 p.m wow i mean we uh my wife uh messed up the window coverings and all the light just comes in at 4:00 bam what the hell is that so my wife now covers her face and whole body with the stuff because we’re trying to get somebody to fix it and these Germans as industrious as they are and as industrious as they are are a little slow at fixing stuff in our unit here so so I’ve been going to the grocery store uh buying odds and ends trying to understand and uh so let me talk give you five tips five tips on traveling to northern Europe and especially northern Berlin northern Germany rather in Berlin which is in the northern part so I get those 4 a.m blast of sun and doesn’t end till 11:00 p.m the sun so so I’m going to be spending a month here i still got you know three more weeks and you know this weekend we’re going to the Czech Republic to Prague hang out with the the Progynes that’s what you call them the Progynes so here are my five tips okay let me read from my little script right here is that okay with you is that okay with you thank you very very much i greatly appreciate it number one it rained more than I thought and when it rains it’s a cold rain not as that tropical rain I’m used to in Texas it rains in the summer and it’s a warm day it’s like 80° and it’s a little warm rain it gets humid no cold temperatures here cold rain the rain is intense sometimes it just sprinkles all day all day it sprinkles the first day we went out I uh you know and you know from uh you know one of these towers I forget it was called Alexander plots and I went to Brandenburgg Gates was about 2 mile walk and um it rained halfway there and I didn’t bring I brought a rain jacket i brought a sweater but I should have brought a whole outfit because I got soaking wet and I got a cold and I’ve been sick for the last two days sick for the last two days i’ve had a cold congestion you know the whole nine yards i haven’t feeling good but I’m starting to feel bit a little bit a little bit better a little bit better today okay enough so that I went to the grocery store and again about 3/4 of a mile that way is a Rayway Ry store and we I bought some stuff especially for my wife she likes to eat bread products so I bought her some bread products so it rained more than I thought and when it rains it’s a cold ring yes I got a cold i would recommend being you know head to toe head all the way up here my slightly balding head all the way to toes cover everything is up you know I cover the top part of me but my bottom part was soaking wet and it was not a good sight so I got sick again a raincoat just won’t won’t cut it so get a good quality poncho you know something that’s stuffed it just covers you just make sure the rain doesn’t get to you and destroy your life as you know it okay be forewarned number two they only speak English in the tour zone when I go to a coffee shop in the tourist zone and I ask for a coffee they they speak English i can speak a little bit of German you know I got some of these ter terms down a little bit but my my German is this limited so I can speak a lot of English but my German is very limited and u my Spanish is pretty good we went to Epana I would have no issues but over here I’m having a lot of issues especially outside the tourism in the tour zone everybody speaks English because they want that American cash they want that British cash and uh you know and pretty much English is the langua frana of the world nowadays so they only speak English in the tour zones i was staying on I’m staying right now at the outskirts of Berlin in the Panko neighborhood of you know family sort of area you know rarely is an English word spoken here uh especially by the shop and restaurant staffs and managers uh again I I go to the grocery store i they and they I ask them about something fast German quick German i’m like uh I don’t understand what the hell he’s saying so I’ve learned just to get my little app and I translate I would like some coffee you know ground coffee not the bean coffee so I didn’t bring my uh you know my grinder my coffee grinder i left that at home idiot idiot i should have brought my coffee grinder but they a lot of beans and a lot of those cups but they did not i go ground i want you know beans so I got some ground coffee so I ask them the question they go “Oh right there.” Okay and I get it and I buy it okay so so thankfully I have my Google Translate app so I just punch in English to German terms like I would like you know some baking powder because the refrigerator is a little stinky so my wife and I like to put a little baking powder in there so it absorbs some of the stench you know a little bit of a rotten smell rotten milk smell i don’t like that so I put that in there and it you know bachulver okay so I ordered I got some B pool right there so number three I’m used to supermarkets the markets in this neighborhood that I’ve seen are just you know goodiz markets they’re goodiz markets if you go to your super Walmarts like this you go to the super grocery store they’re like this this is about the size of a typical you know Whole Foods stuff like that so let me read my script here most markets I have encountered don’t have quite the selection of American markets the quality of their products is very good though except for the coffee and their apples i bought some apples man they were like they had crepe skin on them they were like all wrinkly and I go the only apples you have i know these things are are ripe but I don’t want them that ripe i don’t want them that ripe i want them you know little bit firm those wrinkles i do not like that so number four every year I say I’m going to pack less but inevitably inevitably inevitably I pack way too much again I have too much stuff i have my backpack and my day and my little uh you know my my carry-on little pack that you’re supposed to carry in your stuff in a little tiny one but still too much i just got to just carry one backpack and just forget about the other part you know just don’t bring two things even though they say you can bring two onto the airport two two i only need to bring one really i should limit what i look around maybe just get a smaller backpack and stick it in my backpack when you go you know cruising around the town so I’ve enjoyed my little Osprey 26 plus 6 i take that wherever I go shopping go downtown it carries my raincoat i wish I had a poncho uh all my currency and wallet and identification in a hat come my head up you know at least and odds and ends that I find find useful so I do carry that okay I do like my Osprey 26 plus 6 very nice very nice and when you go shopping at the grocery store you got to bring your own bag or you can buy another like a buck and a half pretty cheap so number five numero sinko Berlin is not too different from any American city the big differences I feel are they have more vintage infrastructure again they have old buildings here they have some seriously old building a lot of history in this area but once you get to the suburbs uh there’s not much differences uh they have some different styles just subtle differences you know like they don’t mold their lawns here they like have like a lot of a lot of you know gardens in the front lawn they have you know weeds and stuff like that man they Oops sorry about that they just don’t care they do not care they do not care they don’t have a HOA that says you have to have that lawn mode and to this height like my neighborhood associated we have a ruler we’re checking your depth so while I’m gone in Germany and traveling Europe I have somebody mowing my lawn because I’m not there to go on my riding lawnmower and keep it according to HOA standards just just just saying so um I feel they are they have more vintage infrastructure ride bikes a hell of a lot everybody has you look at people’s yards they have like five bikes on there and you go to shopping mall they have like 20 bikes parked there and you go to certain other places at the train station they have like 50 60 bikes parked there so people are riding their bikes i see them all the time riding bikes back and forth unlike estados unlike the United States where people like to drive their car park it turn on the air conditioning and just sit there going “Oh what?” So I’m burning gas and causing the you know global warming i don’t care i got the air conditioning on i need my air conditioning but again you know it’s cooler here so they can rent their bikes and right now it’s nice weather and uh but in Texas this summer it’s going to be an average of 100 to 110 i’m telling you the truth right here in Berlin Germany right now it’s an average of 65 to 75 very nice back home it’s average of 80 to 100 right now next month July it’s going to be an average of 100 plus on average every day every day wow so they ride their bikes they are healthier they smile less they’re not very h smileish people they don’t like to smile they’re not a happy people i remember one of my friends that talked about Mexicans you’re happy people who like a lot of bright colors i go “Yes we do.” So uh they smile less and speak a hell of a lot of German over here in the in the in the the hinderlands the hinderlands the the neighborhoods uh you know but I’m learning a lot i’m you know I what I’m used to what I my life is like in Los Angeles be it in Texas or the Bay Area Southern California be it New Mexico Arizona be it in cruising around the different cities in Mexico i’m used to that i can speak to a Mexican i can speak to a tano a person from South Texas i can speak to a Chico in Southern California Northern California no issues i can talk to an American hey you are you an American do you got papers this has been a Susman Garza for RV and Travel Adventures doing a little bit of traveling in Europe uh this weekend I’m going to be in Prague during the weekend weekends in Prague are insane i do not want to go but my wife says we have to go it’s packed it’s like it’s like a It’s like a Black Friday during the weekend it’s packed it’s absolutely packed in downtown they got a bunch of people try to pickpock at you and charge you $15 for a Diet Coke 12 oz i look forward to it it’s very exciting i’m going to go a little further down the line one of the good things in Prague is that transportation is free for seniors just go on the train if they ask you how you older just pull out your ID say “Hey I’m hella old i’m a hella hella hella hella old i get free bus ride so I’m going to go a little further out and have my my pillserl and all these other things I’m going to have in Czech Republic absolutely gorgeous communities absolutely beautiful infrastructure absolutely fabulous fabulous fabulous town so I look forward to going there and of course we’re going to be going to Amsterdam i’m going to be we’re going to be staying near where all the prostitutes are so I look forward to saying hi as I pass by how you doing how’s it and then next for about that’s going to be for about 4 days in 4 days 5 days we’re going to be in uh Brues and here comes my wife uh Brues let me stop annie I’m shooting a video right now if you can be uh just a quiet just a little bit after you slam the door of course thank you very much so we’re going to be in Bruises for about four or five days and then uh and we’re going to check out Gent we’re going to check out again Brues and Brussels and all these towns like that then we’re going to France Paris France for about 5 days and that should be love my wife absolutely loves France i told her wherever you want to go I’ll go it whatever you want just just tell me and I’m just like your little b I’m not going to carry stuff by the way in Paris France and then we’re we take a train back to uh Frankfurt and then from there we stay a couple days and then we’re going to head back to Lasat Unitz and that’s uh going to be the tail end of our trip hey should be a lot of fun again these are my Berlin Germany Northern California five column five cinco espanol uh travel tips hope you enjoy them you find find useful the number
