I Was Warned Not to Post This – Kuwait Airways First Class

holy macaroni This video will go from bad to worse And believe it or not this airline threatened me if I were to publish this review Halfway through my first class flight from Bangkok to Kuwait I called this flight boring By the end it was anything but boring in the worst way possible This is all a bit of a sad situation for a video I had originally intended to title the forgotten Middle Eastern first class hoping the experience would be one to recommend because on the bright side it’s cheap Turns out that low fair can come with a side of crew harassment police interrogation and a desire to never pull out my phone on a plane again So come this video reflects my personal opinions and experiences only This is not a statement of fact about Kuwait Airways as a whole but rather an individual perspective based on one trip I encourage you to form your own opinion based on what you see in this video I’ve also been informed that the airline may pursue legal action if I share this review So I want to be especially clear This is a subjective account not a factual claim about the company’s general conduct or service It’s also interesting that they were so worried about me putting this review out because you tell me but the flight in and of itself besides what happens with the crew and later on the police isn’t actually bad So with that disclaimer out of the way let’s head to Bangkok for the start of this adventure So this flight really ended up turning into something I did not expect it to be And I have a full story that ended up being a lot longer than anticipated A quick heads up this will be a twopart video because I don’t want to make it too long It’s already long enough without me telling the crazy long story of exactly in detail what happened with the crew and then the pilot and then the police I’ve decided to save that for a second video that will be up 48 hours after this one just so you know going into it So view this as part one definitely the less dramatic part of my Kuwait Airways saga It’s always sad to leave Thailand but I’m pretty excited because I get to fly an airline that I literally have no idea what to expect from today The irony of me phrasing it that way is too perfect Pretty weird Here at the gate they went through everyone’s luggage Every passenger has to have their luggage searched even though we’ve already been through security If you know why that is I’m presuming it’s a Kuwait Airways thing Please let me know
I’m not sure if this is a new thing in Bangkok I really hope it’s not So yeah Here is our stunning bird I love Kuwait Airways latest livery Doesn’t this trip 7 look good on the inside our Kuwait Airways 7 features three cabin classes with business class in a 222 configuration offering the same seat type many airlines have on their narrow body aircraft and then first class in a 121 configuration with eight seats spread across two rows Today I’m seated in 2 kilo which was the last window seat remaining when I booked Kuwait Airways first class seems to sell out quickly especially on this route given the low prices More on how much I paid a little later Going into this my expectations are not super high but they don’t need to be because when you find out what Kuwait Airways charges for their first class you are going to be shocked [Music] So welcome on board Kuwait Airways flagship aircraft Let’s start with a look at business class That’s enough of that Ah first class This is lovely In fact these seats are so much bigger and more substantial than I expected And I’m not being sarcastic about that Somehow I have the cabin to myself for a good 10 minutes before other first class passengers join So in the meantime I have time to record lots of footage to show you guys [Music] At one point the person who’s standing by the door comes by saying his first actual words to me Sir you’re not allowed to record the crew or other passengers I look around and think well lucky there’s no one else here And reassure him that him and his colleague don’t appear in any clips I’ve taken and he says “Of course if you only record yourself that’s fine.” Cool Absolutely no problem I settle into my seat realize there’s an Emirates style mini bar Nice And await the first class service It begins a few minutes later with being approached by the purser again and him saying “You want drink?” I ask for a lemon mint since I assume all Middle Eastern airlines will have that and sure enough they do This is a nice welcome Is Quit Airways good cuz for a moment I’m starting to think so Our seat itself has pretty much everything you need including built-in individual air vents Love that As I’m looking around the person comes by again and says “What do you want?” Holding out this tray of dates Those are paired with Arabic coffee I mean so far this is pretty much everything I love on a flight I’m living my best life right now watching the safety video enjoying views of BKK on the cheapest first class flight of this length I have ever booked using cash instead of points [Music] we have crazy turbulence today This is the most turbulent flight I have had in a long long time Now let’s talk a little bit about the Salt product so far because things have been let’s say interesting I can already tell I’m going to have a lot to say about the service later in the flight I’ll so let’s see if it can be saved somehow But we have received our menus and or menu and amenity kit now Here we have it I actually forgot that Kuwait Airways is a dry airline So when I saw the menu I was like wait a minute But of course that’s not a huge problem for me As long as there’s lemon with mint I’m happy which they have It’s always surprising when you fly a dry airline and they don’t invest in cool non-alcoholic drinks think Saudia which has a very cool menu This however I think is nice at least the outside of the kit But let’s check out what’s inside it Now I’ve never heard of the concept of a European medley outside the realms of Eurovvision Song Contest before so that sounds interesting Imagine Lorine Alexander Reebeck and Kito Verse all coming out at meal time on Kuwait Airways Now that is a European medley I can get behind The drink menu reminds me that Kuwait Airways is dry so there’s no alcohol And as you guys might know I rarely drink but even the non-alcoholic section reminds me of other quality airlines like Egypt Air or Usbekistan Airways Our amenity kit today is from Samsonite Obviously a nice brand for travelers that most people will be familiar with The contents are an interesting mix and include a nail file which I think we all hope no one actually uses on board especially not in their seat Right at this point you might have seen the door is closed creating a heavenly little cocoon We even have our own closet in here This is actually an above average first class seat considering when it was introduced Our flight happens to be extremely bumpy today which is a struggle for someone who likes to drink a lot and then needs to go to the toilet every 30 minutes But eventually the sign goes off to my relief As I enter the galley on my way to the lavatory which is nice by the way the lavatory not necessarily the galley I see the purser standing with a can of soda in his hand watching his colleague frantically prepare all eight passengers meals the poor woman I managed to get a shot of all the appetizers she’s nicely preparing while I’m there A little while later the person comes to my seat to see what I want to eat since they’re serving all the meals but actually ends up asking me “Do you love the flight so far seems like someone might not have liked me seeing what I saw in the galley huh?” I say “Yeah it’s nice to be polite.” And then he says “Great thank you.” And walks away before turning back and saying “Oh by the way you want food?” “Yes I would love food on this 7-hour first class flight boss.” So he says “You want seven upp?” I go “No thanks but I’ll have a lemon mint.” I guess he just loves Seven Up or something Now mezza from the menu This is my special meal appetizer but it’s pretty much very similar to the salad off the regular cart I can show you that from the galley I got a little sneak peek of that Um so let’s dig in Of course this is Bangkok catering I think Keep that in mind [Music] Here’s my main course and it tastes quite good [Music] Next up my dessert A fruit plate that I enjoy with some tea Not the biggest or most elaborate meal I’ve ever received in first class but hey the price also isn’t what you’d expect to pay for first class so I don’t really have first class expectations What is truly first class is bringing your own jackf fruit from the terminal in Bangkok Turns out my favorite fruit in the whole world even tastes as good at 35,000 ft Good to know And by the way there was no smell from this jackf fruit Luckily so far so good Okay meal’s done Here’s the thing guys I really don’t know what to say today or about this flight because obviously it’s a lovely seat It’s absolutely fantastic One of the better first class seats I’ve flown actually which of course makes it a joy to sit here but everything else is so I don’t want to say boring but that’s basically what it is I can’t you know express excitement or comment on it cuz there’s not even anything to comment on It’s just like oh that’s the food that’s the menu that’s the amenity kit The only real interesting thing here is the price and the weird value proposition of Kuwait Airways First Class If there’s one thing that is let’s say the least first class on board it has to be the bedding I mean it’s a spacious bed but I think most people would at least expect some sort of mattress pad or sheet to go over the seat So that’s definitely an area for improvement in my opinion So I just made the bed As you can see there’s really no bedding besides the blanket and one pillow which I can’t believe I’m saying this American Airlines has more bedding in business class than Kuwait Airways has in first class which is wild And it made me think I actually immediately texted my Kuwaiti friend I said “How are you guys being from one of the richest countries in the world okay with this?” And he said “Well all Kuwaitis like me just fly Qatar Airways instead.” And I was like “Okay but wouldn’t you prefer your national airline be like Katar Airways?” And I was like “No because when we get to fly first to Doha we get alsafa lounge access the first class lounge.” So we all prefer that anyway And I was like “Okay interesting point.” You heard me talk about texting my friend Well in terms of connectivity there is free inflight messaging while Wi-Fi costs 20 bucks The free messaging turns out to be seriously needed a little later Although I know more and more of you guys and me are opting out of watching inflight entertainment in favor of bringing our own devices or reading it’s always valuable to have a big selection on board for passengers to choose from And yeah the selection here is what you’d expect from an airline that primarily focuses on passengers from its home market Big shout out to the Thai Stewart who’s trying her best with what the airline has given her and delivers us this Emirates style first class snack basket I have some tea with that as I prepare for a quick nap and suddenly it’s basically time for the pre-landing meal So had a nice little nap worked a bit read a bit I am so you know when you’re at the end of a book and everything that the whole book has built up to is coming to a close That’s where I am in my book and I cannot put it down So we have our pre-landing meal here Some sandwiches some hummus some avocado or something or other and some grilled vegetables We had so much turbulence today all the way from Bangkok until we left India’s west coast It was bumpy bumpy It wasn’t like severe turbulence but probably moderate for a lot of that time So sleeping wasn’t the easiest But still I just got to relax a bit which felt great Yeah I’m excited to say all the stuff I have to say but uh I don’t really know how to say it when to say it So I’m going to have to think about the best way to deliver this news At this point the has started to hit the fan so to speak Another gourmet meal I paid an unbelievably low I’ve been teasing you for so long with the price I’m sorry about that This is just the most natural point to include that So in total my first class ticket cost me 49,500 Thai bot which at the time of recording this narration is equivalent to about $1,480 That is one of the cheapest longhaul first class tickets in the world It’s actually even cheaper than business class on this route on most other airlines What’s a better experience this or business class on the likes of Katar Airways and Emirates well listen to this and then let me know At this point we have about an hour and a half until landing in Kuwait And most of that time is spent being verbally threatened by the purser Long story short because I don’t want to leave you hanging he wasn’t happy with me reviewing the flight seemingly Maybe because he spent the whole flight standing around delivering service levels that you wouldn’t even find on a Jet 2 holiday Sorry Jet 2 Don’t mean to drag you into this but I just love that meme So he was standing around all while making the female flight attendant do pretty much everything Every time I went to the galley he was sitting on his jump seat while the woman was hustling Basically he ends up telling me I cannot post anything from this flight and if I ever want to review Kuwait Airways I need to seek permission beforehand If I don’t comply he tells me he cannot guarantee my safety when we land This and several other exchanges with him and other crew go on pretty much until landing for a good 60 minutes or so And as you maybe understand I’m a little nervous to see what awaits me in Kuwait I’ve been here and transferred here about a dozen times before but this is the first time I’m feeling uneasy Well uneasy is a slight underexaggeration When we arrive at the gate unfortunately things get even worse than I’d expected And that full story will have to wait for my next video which I will
