Arriving At Wells Touring Park, Adults Only Site, Service Pitch

we’re leaving
Tredegar House and we’re on our way to. Wells touring park. Yeah. Get over these evil speed humps. Which is a tranquil park. So we’ve done two caravan and motorhome, clubs
and camping and caravanning club. Now we’re doing a trip. A tranquil, tranquil park, before we do
another camping and caravanning. Something like that. There’s plenty of variety. Yeah. Yeah, this is a really nice site though. Yeah. It’s been good
and I must go and shut that back door before we get going. Almost. Okay. I was hoping the speed humps
would shut it. They are big These speed humps aren’t they? You’ve got all the others on that road
on the way out? Yeah. Yeah. No, it’s
good to get the car checked yesterday and set for another
ten years of towing behind the motorhome. And the little boxes over by the door. Over the side. I’ve got to shut that door. So I’ll have a little wander. Get through the gate first. Well, yeah. It’s always good to remember. You’ve got to get the car
through the gate right? So we’re not following what Mrs. Sat Nag wants us to do? No. Does she want. She’s suggesting going through cheddar. So nice as Cheddar is. Yes. But, the site, Wells Touring Park suggest,
if you’re a big unit to go down to junction
23 on the M5 and follow the A39. Yeah. So that’s what we’re going to do. Okay. Right. M4 East London from this
this roundabout junction. Won’t miss this roundabout junction whatever it is.
it’s a bit of a nightmare innit. Continue on M4 And you’ll see much out through there. There’s no toll on toll free. Toll free since 2018. But we can’t. We couldn’t remember one way, one way you had to pay a toll. And yeah, I remember
perhaps going into England or going. Into Wales and you had to pay
to get back into England. Didn’t you? I think so. I can’t remember that toll free now. In one and three quarter miles
take the exit to ft and roundabout. Take Exit 22 on the left to M49
then enter the roundabout. At the roundabout,
take the third exit to M49. Continue on M49. And over here. Load of cars there? Yeah. Whether they’re coming in or going ou? But hundreds and thousands of cars. Yeah. Probably all Chinese coming in. So this is the way we were advised to come for larger vehicles from the campsite. Yeah. That’s right. Quite detailed instructions. So junction 22 is okay. If you’re a small unit. Does feel like
you’re going back on yourself. But the other the first, the route the satnav
wanted to take was through cheddar. So yeah, didn’t think that was a good idea. At the roundabout, take the first exit to A39. The feeling we’re climbing. I feel we are as well. Continue on A39. Not far from. Wells now. Driven round Glastonbury. This bloomin’ A39 is dreadful. Yeah. That’s why I didn’t do too much recording
because it was such a bumpy, noisy road. We’re looking for the A371, which hopefully was the same
as strawberry way that she’s calling it. Is really bad. It’s dreadful. Yeah. Road is absolutely dreadful. At the roundabout, take the. First exit to. Strawberry Way. I’ll be glad to stop. Oh, wow. In half a mile. In the left lane. Then keep left onto Portway. Trouble
with all these signs are behind a tree aren’t they? That’s the 371. There’s Weston super mare. Yeah. They say, head towards cheddar. A37. So again, left at the top of the. It was stopping the first. Keep left to Portway. Yeah. So we’re turning left here. Says Cheddar on that sign there. Yeah. So it’s cheddar here. It’s three quarters of a mile. Turn left onto the road. Well, this says, take the turn left through light’s heading towards A371 Cheddar. Second set of lights on. Veer left up the hill onto Portway Road. Second, the second set of lights. Okay. In a quarter of a mile. Turn left to the road. I’m going up here. Sorry, I thought I thought
we were going up there on way no. Oh. Oh. Okay. Well, I’m not going to the sat nav. No. I’ve got. Don’t. We haven’t gone through traffic lights. No. Yeah. Continue till you reach a bridge. I don’t know what the other bit was about. Then turn left onto the road,
then take the first left. This? Yeah. It’s here, isn’t it? Yeah. Should just follow Mrs. Sat Nag. Turn left onto the road,
then take the first left. Somewhere to park in the arrivals area. Right. I paid for this about a month ago. Yeah,
but there’s question of Tara isn’t there? Okay, an extra dog. Okay. Extra dog,
which I think is £2 a night. Okay. Okay, look,
it does look really nice. There’s a restaurant and bar. That’s right. Yeah. To the left here. Yeah. Please drive to highlighted route. Okay. We’re here Mrs Sat Nag. It’s not realising we’ve arrived. I don’t know. It’s a recycling point
to my right here bins and grey waste disposal. Dog shower. Parcels and post go there. So we’re going straight on here
I think. Yeah. With the arrows pointing. Yeah, I have it. Pitch 28. Some lodges here. So which way at the end. Here then. Straight on, straight on. You know, it’s an extra £8 for Tara. Yeah, I saw that, Poppy was free. Wasn’t she. Free? Included. Yeah, yeah, probably was included. Okay. Extra dogs. One puppy included, one. Yes. Because when we booked soon, I thought we’d only got one Poppy. Now we’ve got a Tara. Which she’s worth every penny,
we’re on the right hand side, outside. Okay. Maybe this. All right? Yeah, yeah, I did look, and I thought,
I don’t, no tree dangers. You didn’t choose the pitch did you? No, no, no couldn’t choose it. Some of them you can on a map. 29. It’s going down 28. Yeah. So, it says park over to the left of the pitch. Yeah. Oh, wow. Yeah. I have to go When I. Tell you I’m sick to death of this ecoflow fridge. It’s been a nightmare. This is the third one we’ve had. And it’s the third time it’s frozen wine and beer. Actually seen. And that’s just beer slush. I don’t know what it is
about these fridges, but they are useless. Highly not recommended. Yeah.
And it’s still going down -8.5. It still says it’s 5 on there. That’s what the temperature should be. Dog shower there girls. Dog convenience area. 39? Yeah. 39 minutes. Yeah. It’s washing time. And hopefully we only need to do this once this tour. Just put a thing in because it told me to put a thing in. You didn’t. I did put a thing in. Please do not add washing powder. Hey, just so
this says on here, load washer and add detergent. I don’t know
what has to do with this thing here. Yeah, so these are. Must be the new, improved ones. Yes. Oh, good. What’s it say on there then? Yeah. This adds detergent as well. What. Don’t say that on my one. So. Yeah. Guide all the things you can do. Glastonbury Abbey. feeling we’ve
been there, but I can’t think. Yeah. We went there with your mum and dad. Years and years. Yeah. That’s what I’m thinking. Somerton.. Bristol Bath. Yeah. Bristol Zoo and Museum of Somerset Westernbirt National Arboretum. I’ve been there. And that’s near Cirencester. Yeah. Yeah, it’s quite a way that. Yeah. Beaulieu is as well. Isn’t that Beaulieu Motor Museum? Yeah. That’s in the new new forest. Yeah. The way we will be going a about the Roman baths at Bath. Can’t get it back in. In the 1980s
last time we went to Bath. Yeah, that would be nice, actually go to Bath. Because they’ve got the car. We wouldn’t have that problem. Can I have that discussion. Is it baarth or is it bath. And someone told me I pronounced it
wrong before. Yeah. It depends where you come from. Where you were born? Washing clothes, Sort of like a scrubbing area there. Yeah. And you’ve got your washing up. I was there. Okay. The weather’s taken a turn,
so it’s just as well. We’ve been doing a bit of editing
and a bit of laundry today. Chemical Waste. 3132. It’s been like our freezer needs to be frosted. Done ours. I have, no I said that needs defrosting. Oh ours is quite good at the moment. This is quite good at the moment. So we’ve survived it. By putting extra detergent in there. Maybe it’s clever enough to realise you’ve
already got it. It’s got AI has it? Probably. You see, the pitches are quite sloping. So you, Levelling has helped,
but I did need a chock underneath. Yeah.
Okay. Dogs are allowed in this outside
part of the bar, not in the lounge part. I think Rob and Lynn would like it here
because they do their own gin, make their own gin here. A couple just walked off
with a locally brewed gin. Do you brew gin? I don’t know, you distil it don’t you. Okay. What? Oh. Oh, poppy. No, And a Peroni. Oh. And vodka. And time and rum. Yeah. It’s good isn’t it. Actually belting down. Cornish pasty. Not a Cornish pasty. Oh, a vegetable. But it’s a vegetable cornish pasty. And a St Austel Tibute Pale Ale. Yeah. You were just saying
your want to go to Cornwall next Year. did you say you wanted to go
to Cornwall next year? Yeah. just across from across the road from the park. There’s a gate,
and it leads into this sort of area. It looks a bit like a neglected park. The gate was actually wasn’t bolted
or anything. Has. No don’t trespass or anything. Signs. So it looks like it’s
a little sort of park area here though. There are people walking. So don’t feel so bad now. Let’s go and have a look up here girls. Yeah.
There’s a has a housing estate up there. So they’ve obviously produced a park from the house from the state into here. Okay okay. There are people walking the dogs
so that’s okay. Yeah, it carries on right to the housing estate. So that’s another way. And there. Yeah. Ends up at the back of these houses here. Comes out here. If my directions are correct, then this is the main road Yeah, it’s a lane here. Main road up there. Yeah. So it brings you out on the road to Wookie
hole. Wookie hole. Yeah. If you just walk down there
past these houses and turn right, that’s the walk. Okay, so we’re leaving Wells Touring Park. I’ve really enjoyed it. I wouldn’t mind
staying a little bit longer. We weren’t sure to begin with,
but the site grew on me. Yeah. Fantastic day for Wells didn’t we? Yeah, a place well worth visiting. Well worth. Yeah. Now, we’ve been to Wells
and we’ve been to Bath haven’t we? Yes. So they’ll be in a, Bath will be
the next video then Wells after that. Yeah. And one thing to say is
we were on a service pitch. This has been the most expensive site
on the tour so far. Yeah. The first dog is included. So it was £42. Were in off-road mode. You wandering off road mode
because of the thing on the way out? Yeah. Yeah. So it was £42 with just Poppy then,
because we bring in an extra dog. An extra dog is £2 extra a night. Yeah. So that makes it £44 a night
compared with the other service pitch. We were on a Pandy which was £39 a night. Yeah. Okay. You know what people were saying? Caravan club sites are more expensive. But I’ve proved that
they’re all very similar. So facilities? Yeah. So, we had an evening in the bar. Didn’t we? Yeah. So that was quite nice. Yeah. I mean,
not a huge selection of food in the bar. To be honest, there was I just. Well, for us, I mean. I mean, 4 items on the menu,
and one of them was a veggie pasty. Yeah. That didn’t do was it didn’t have any, veg, vegetarian hot dogs, sausages. No. She did kindly of go
and look in the freezer. Yeah. But it was very helpful. And, and they do do their own gin as well. Yeah. And the beer was nice. There was bottled beer,
but it was nice out of the fridge. Just need to nip out
and get rid of that cardboard. Okay. Park over here somewhere. And this is a bit evil, Turn right onto A371 Number of scrapes on that. Yeah. The jockey wheels doing that. Can you look because I can’t. I can’t see at all. There’s a whole stream. here. Yeah. Okay. Let me. Safely over that. It’s three quarters of a mile. Turn right up to Strawberry Way. might be wrong, but
I think these sort of bridges with shops and restaurants on top of bridges
are very rare in Britain these days. You see a lot on bridges, but.

We arrive at Wells Touring Park in Somerset, which is an adults only site in the Tranquil Parks group. We are on a serviced pitch with electric hook up, water and drainage on the pitch.

  1. That looks a lovely site. I have a cousin in Wells. I noticed a leaflet for Forde Abbey. You may have been there but it is lovely. Gorgeous wisteria there. I wonder what is wrong with your fridge, that is so annoying.Hope you can sort it.

  2. Hi Bob, thanks for this video, we stayed at Old Oaks which is about 4 miles from where you are, straight of the A39 by the hospital. Not sure if you have ever been to Old Oaks, but if not I urge you to try it out. In my opinion it is one of the best touring sites in England, it has facilities that would put most hotels to shame, the pitches are all immaculately presented as are all the landscaped areas. It’s not the cheapest but you do get what you pay for. The site is situated right underneath Glastonbury Tor and there are some lovely local walks from the site, not least a walk into Glastonbury town centre. Also a visit to the Abbey is a must as is challis Well.

  3. We love Wells Touring Park, been going for a few years now. Its changed quite a lot, it used to have a little coffee lounge you could take dogs in, but now turned it into a bar. Its a nice walk into Wells along the cycle path. Wells itself is really nice, especially the Bishop's Palace where you can see the swans ringing the bell to be fed. The cathedral is stunning too.

  4. Thanks again guys ❤ love arriving at videos. I always say this but wow A39 is a disgrace. What has happened to our roads and so many signs covered by foliage. I'm sad how bad the UK is. Keep up the great work.

  5. I have my home fridge on 3 and that freezes at the back wall!! I try to keep it slightly under. I don't get any problems with my new campervan fridge. I shall take my small fridge again this time for my Scottish tour. Used with a carrier fridge before I bought my new big fridge!

  6. We live in the Poldens between Bridgwater and Street absolutely agree the A39 is awful. We love Wells, especially the Bishop’s Palace Gardens and the Cathedral, great market too. Bath has a great park and ride.

  7. Wells touring park is a regular stop for us, great family run site. My sister is in process of buying a house near the park you went through, my niece has a cafe opposite the Morrisons on the new industrial units, next time you go you must try it out ( near screwfix) garage 6 quickshifter coffee, a motorbike and cycle cafe but not a greasy spoon type and extremely dog friendly.

  8. We stayed on that site earlier this year. A lot of the reviews raved about the facility block, saying how wonderful it was. Not my experience at all unfortunately, infact i only went to the ladies when i absolutely had too and the site wasn't exactly busy, couldn't wait to leave thankfully we were only there 2 nights. Went to Glastonbury while we were there, that was interesting, saw a Wizard who looked remarkably like Gandalf walking down the other side of the street, complete with cloak, pointy hat and staff. 😮

  9. Hi Bob I would recommend Alpicool camping fridge we have 35ltr wt001 it’s been running non stop for 14 months as we use it as spare fridge when we are home. Great video 👍

  10. Great video, as always, and it looks like a great site! Never been to Wells, even though it's very close to me. You're down my side of the country. Drive over Avonmouth Bridge daily.

  11. We like this park, been a couple of times now most recently when we spent Christmas there last year, Wells city is nice too and being a big fan of the film Hot Fuzz which was filmed there it’s good to see all the locations 😊

  12. Hi Bob and Jenny, we haven’t camped as yet at Wells, looks a lovely Tranquil Park’s campsite. Aah Tara is so worth the £8 bless her.
Facilities looked very good lovely and bright.
Great that there is a bar. Thank you fir sharing , Julie and Tony x
