Rome at 7AM: Serene Walk Through the Eternal City | 4K Morning Tour
Hello everyone! I’m Luca and today I’m taking you on a special walking tour through some of Rome’s most fascinating places. We’re on Viale delle Belle Arti, in front of the National Museum of Modern Art. This 1911 building houses Italy’s most important collection. The museum was inaugurated to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Italian unification and represents a bridge between classical and contemporary art. The neoclassical facade hides treasures like works by De Chirico, Modigliani and Balla. A true gem often overlooked by tourists! Here’s the Bruno Zevi Stairway, dedicated to the great architecture historian. Zevi revolutionized how we interpret architectural space. This staircase connects different levels of Villa Borghese and is a perfect example of how modern architecture integrates with historic landscape. We arrive at the Giulio Carlo Argan Exedra, named after the famous art critic and Rome’s mayor in the 1970s. He was the one who promoted the artistic heritage. Argan introduced the concept of “environment” in art, arguing that artworks cannot be separated from their surrounding context. Very relevant today! Today it hosts a beautiful bar and nightclub during summer season that attracts many young people to spend a cool evening immersed in Rome’s history. We’re at Piazzale Ferdowsi, dedicated to the 10th-century Persian poet, author of the Shahnameh. A tribute to Eastern culture in the heart of Rome. This dedication shows Rome’s openness to world cultures. Ferdowsi is considered the Homer of Persia for his immortal epic. We walk along Viale Madama Letizia, a name that evokes Napoleon’s mother. Letizia Ramolino Bonaparte lived her final years in Rome. Here we are at the famous Villa Borghese Lake with the Temple of Aesculapius. This artificial lake was created in 1785 by Prince Marcantonio Borghese. The neoclassical temple is dedicated to the Roman god of medicine. The island and temple were inspired by English gardens, very fashionable in the 18th century. During this walking tour I’ve hidden a secret phrase among the subtitles. Watch the video carefully, try to find it and write it in the comments! Let’s see who can discover it! First word: “ROME” We arrive at Fonte Gaia, one of Villa Borghese’s most romantic fountains. We’re on Viale dell’Aranciera, which gets its name from the Borghese citrus greenhouse. In the 18th century, growing oranges was a sign of great prestige. The original orangery was demolished, but the avenue maintains the charm of that era. The scents and colors of citrus fruits enchanted visitors. We enter Viale Pietro Canonica, dedicated to the Piedmontese sculptor. Canonica was the official portraitist of European royal houses. His museum in the “Fortezzuola” preserves works and personal mementos. He sculpted monuments for tsars, emperors and kings of half of Europe. His house-studio remained intact and tells the story of an artist who frequented European high society between the 19th and 20th centuries. Here’s Piazza di Siena, one of Rome’s most elegant places. This equestrian arena was designed in 1792 by Prince Marcantonio Borghese. Every May it hosts the International Horse Show, one of the world’s most prestigious equestrian events. The maritime pines create a unique setting. The natural amphitheater recalls ancient Roman arenas, but with the elegance of English gardens. A perfect blend of ancient and modern. Before us are the remains of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, designed by Cristoforo Unterperger, the small temple was built in 1792, as part of the renovation wanted by Marcantonio Borghese. It’s composed of fragments from ancient architecture from the Roman Forum, combined with modern parts to fake a ruin, following the fashion of English gardens. Let me know in the comments if you knew about this curious transformation! Rome is full of surprises hidden around every corner. We walk along Viale dei Cavalli Marini, which takes its name from mythological creatures half horse and half fish, symbols of strength and freedom. These fantastic beings decorate many Roman fountains and represent dominion over both land and seas, typical of imperial iconography. Casino dell’Orologio built in the 16th century as a service building attached to a rural estate. We arrive at the Fountain of the Sea Horses, built between 1790 and 1791 to replace the previous Mascherone or Vela fountain, destroyed during park transformation works. The water flowing from the sea horses’ mouths creates splendid light effects at first dawn. A corner of poetry hidden in Villa Borghese’s greenery. We continue along Viale dei Cavalli Marini, immersed in the green of Roman pines. These trees are the plant symbol of the Eternal City. We take Via del Museo Borghese, which leads us to the famous Gallery. This street was specifically traced to connect the villa to the center. The Borghese Museum houses masterpieces by Bernini, Caravaggio and Titian. Scipione Borghese was one of history’s greatest collectors. Cardinal Scipione’s passion for art created one of the world’s most precious collections. Every room is a journey through Italian art. I’ll leave the video in the description because I made a beautiful video inside the museum, let me know if you’ll watch it. Sorry, I’m stopping for a second to get a water bottle because it’s already getting very hot. We reach Piazzale Brasile, the square outside Porta Pinciana at the entrance to Villa Borghese between the two Eagle Propylaea. Second word: “IS” The square separates the area (inside the walls) where streets are dedicated to Italian regions (in the Ludovisi and Sallustiano districts, both built on the park of the ancient Villa Ludovisi Boncompagni). Here’s Porta Pinciana, one of the gates of the Aurelian Walls built in the 3rd century. It takes its name from the Pincia family who owned these lands. The walls protected Rome from barbarians and this gate controlled access from Via Salaria. A piece of Roman military history still perfectly visible. We go down the legendary Via Vittorio Veneto, symbol of Fellini’s Dolce Vita. In the 1960s it was the capital’s fashionable living room. Via Veneto’s cafés saw international stars like Anita Ekberg, Marcello Mastroianni and Elizabeth Taylor parade by. A golden age of Italian cinema. Subscribe to the channel to follow other walking tours like this! Every week we discover together hidden corners and fascinating stories of Rome. We arrive at the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini, famous for its skeleton crypt. A place of reflection on life’s transience. The bones of 4,000 Capuchin friars have decorated the walls since 1631. The inscription reads: “What you are we were, what we are you will be.” A memento mori that invites meditation, created with art and respect. One of the most intense experiences Rome can offer. The church was designed by Michele da Bergamo and built between 1626 and 1631. The architectural structure of the building consists of a small nave with ten side chapels. We continue down Via Vittorio Veneto admiring the Art Nouveau palaces and historic hotels. The architecture tells a hundred years of modern Roman history. The Fountain of the Bees is a small but fascinating baroque fountain created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1644, the bees are the heraldic emblem of the Barberini family. Here we are at Piazza Barberini with Bernini’s Triton Fountain. This baroque masterpiece was completed in 1643 and marks the center of the square. The Triton plays the conch shell making water spurt upward. Bernini transformed a simple fountain into a sculpture of pure poetry. Four dolphins with intertwined tails, between which are placed papal coats of arms with bees, the heraldic symbol of the Barberini family, support an enormous shell, from which the imposing Triton rises. Third word: “MAGICAL” We walk along Via delle Quattro Fontane, one of Roman baroque’s most scenic streets. The name comes from the four fountains at the intersections. This street connects two important complexes: Palazzo Barberini and the Quirinal. The palace was designed by three great architects: Maderno, Borromini and Bernini. A unique collaboration in baroque architecture history. Palazzo Barberini houses the National Gallery of Ancient Art and Cortona’s famous ceiling. “The Triumph of Divine Providence” is a masterpiece. The fresco covers 400 square meters and is considered Rome’s most spectacular baroque ceiling. Pietro da Cortona worked six years to complete it. We return to Via delle Quattro Fontane admiring the noble palaces. At the intersection with Via del Quirinale we find the Four Fountains, commissioned by Sixtus V in 1588, representing the Tiber, the Arno, Diana and Juno. A baroque masterpiece that offers a unique perspective on Rome, with three obelisks visible in a single glance! We walk along Via del Quirinale toward the presidential palace. This street offers magnificent views of the dome of Sant’Andrea al Quirinale. The Quirinal was papal residence for three centuries, then royal palace of the Savoys and today presidential palace. A symbol of power that crosses the centuries. Here we are in front of the Church of Sant’Andrea al Quirinale, Bernini’s “jewel.” The artist considered this his most successful architectural work. The elliptical plan and golden dome create a unique scenic effect. Bernini revolutionized sacred architecture with this small church. At the main altar, made of gilded bronze and lapis lazuli in the third quarter of the 17th century based on a design by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, We return along Via del Quirinale. Historic palaces alternate with secret gardens and breathtaking views. We finally arrive at Piazza del Quirinale, one of Rome’s most beautiful squares. In the center stand the Dioscuri with their horses. The colossal statues of Castor and Pollux are Roman copies of 5th-century BC Greek originals. They represent the divine force that protects Rome. The obelisk comes from Augustus’s Mausoleum and was placed here in 1786. The fountain completes a scenic ensemble of rare beauty. Did you find the secret phrase in Italian? Rome is Magical ❤️🔥 >>> agreed 100%
Thanks for including the time of day and temperature in the description, Luca. I was very curious what time of the morning it was. As always, you always film great walks. The things you teach us about the walks are appreciated. 👏
👍
Maxi passeggiate nel cuore grande di Roma….meravigliose….
Roma è magica. Quite so, with so many gorgeous fountains, works of genius, spraying their refreshing mist onto our faces and arms. Isn't that a fairy tale sensation? The walk along Via Veneto refreshes my memories, I was there only last month and took a snap of Bernini's work. I get carried away by your videos, fantasy is superior to reality. Here's a request to you: if possible would you go into San Carlo next time you're in Via del Quirinale? Grazie for the pleasure of walking with you .❤LPS
Great walk, as always! I just love Rome having so much hill zones (I think there are more than usually known 7 hills) because it gives an extra picturesque urban impression. 👍 May I dare for a suggestion?: An evening walk on 29th June, Saints Peter and Paul Day and fireworks at Castel Sant'Angelo. 👋👋
Rome is magical ❤ thank you for the videos love watching them
ROMA ES MÁGICA!!!
Rome is magical
Rome is magical ❤🤩
The best! Thanks!
ROME IS MAGICAL
Thank you for this wonderful video. You are truly lucky to be able to live in this stunningly beautiful city. For me, Rome is the most beautiful city in the world.😍🤩🥰
Thr hiden words of your video of morning walk in rome are: ROME, IS, MAGICAL.
👍👍👍

Thanks for posting this. Love Piazza Barberini and their Palazzo!
Большое спасибо за Ваши чудесные экскурсии по любимому Риму! ❤❤❤
