My First Solo Trip to Greece 🇬🇷 | Exploring Rhodes Old Town & Lindos at Sunset In August
[Music] [Music] I’m in Roads Town. I was here last year. Loved it so much I decided to come back this time on my own. It’s my very first solo holiday. I’m staying in the Blue Sky City Hotel, literally just a few minutes walk down from the Mitsus Grand where me and my son stayed last year in April. This is a single room obviously for one person. And I don’t have a balcony. I just have a door that opens up to the back of the hotel. I don’t mind not having a balcony. I would like one, but it’s fine. If this is my view, then I’m not that first. Nice bathroom. I’ve got everything I need. Bit of lack of towels. It’d be nice to have more towels, but it’s fine. So, I’m here for five nights and I’m half bored because I’ve never been on holiday my own before. I didn’t know whether I um would find it really difficult to eat out at night. The plan now is to go down to the beach. Coming up to the Mitsus Grand Hotel. This is where Oliver and I stayed last April. And uh when we came there was no one on the beaches, no sunbeds or anything. It’s a really really nice hotel. I wouldn’t say five star. I have got a room tour on my channel. But yeah, it is a really nice. If the price was right like it was when we went last year, then I’ll definitely stay there again. There’s a balcony up there. So weird coming back. I’m heading towards the aquarium right at the very top the north of the island and then it curves around then to go down to Ellie Beach and then for you to follow it further around more so over about there you’ve got the old town then of the harbor. We didn’t manage to go in the aquarium last year. I would have known whether I should stay here. See? [Music] [Music] Well, I didn’t go for a swim. I’ve just come back to my room. I was just a little bit nervous cuz it is really rough. I’ve literally only had about 2 hours sleep. So, I am running on empty. I need more food. I need more water as well. So, I’m going to get some food and then I’ll go to the shop. My first cocktail on holiday. They’ve just shut the pool. But yeah, really nice. I’m about to go out. It’s about half 9 at night. So, I put some makeup on. Feeling a little bit better. still feel absolutely shattered. So, I’m sure tomorrow will be a better day and I can start this vlog properly. [Music] This is the sea there and the roundabout is just around the corner. So I’m facing this end all the way up there. That is Bar Street [Music] and it goes on and on and on. See you in the morning for um the start of my little solo holiday. Morning. It’s the 22nd of August. I’m not sure if I told you what date it was. I can see in the far distance what looks like the building that’s right down by Mandrai Harbor, not far from Rhonda Beach Bar. So, I think I’m just going to head straight in that direction there. And um yeah, so I’ll go up this road up here. I set the alarm for 7:00 this morning and I went downstairs and had breakfast and there’s quite a few people there. I was expecting it as it just opened at 7:00 um to be quite quiet, but it was about quart 7 when I went and yeah, nice breakfast. Really, really nice breakfast here. Plan today is to head to the old town, have a walk around, come back here for about 3:00. I’ve got a bus booked to take me to Lindos for the night and that is coming at about half 4 I think. So I want to get ready, have showers and things. So yeah, so that’s the plan today. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Such an easy walk from my hotel to the old town. Literally just 10 minutes and I’m at one of the gates to get in. And yeah, it’s one straight line. So really, really easy. Easy for me to remember at night when I come here at night. But I’m outside Roloy Rolo. I’m not sure how you pronounce it. I did come here last year in April, but it was closed. So obviously hadn’t opened yet. So that’s what I’m going to do now. [Music] It cost €5. Come in, go up the clock tower up there, and then just over there is a cafe where I can choose any drink I want. I remember this street here was really, really quiet when we came here in April. Hardly anyone about. Can you see these walls going all the way around the perimeter? I walked on those last year and I’ll be doing that again. and I’ll be doing that today hopefully. There’s so much to see here and in the far distance you can see with the cruise ships that’s Mandraki Harbor. There’s another area to the harbor. I’m not sure if that is actually Mandrai or not, but be going to Simei Island from there tomorrow morning. [Music] [Applause] I’m walking down the streets of the night and I can’t believe how quiet it is. It’s about4 to 11:00 in the morning in August. What I can remember is as we walk down the street, you’ll see there’s different houses. There used to be different ins. Just gone up a side path, which I haven’t been to before, but yeah. So, you got different ins for the Spanish, the French. There’s the hospital as well, and the archaeological museum. I have got separate videos on those. The clock tower, Roloi or Rolo. Really worth it. Amazing views at the top of the clock tower. There is some steep steps, but if you can’t get right up to the top, you still got some really great views. And I had a nice coffee. You can have whatever drink you want. There’s shaded areas. It’s really nice. I’m really liking being on my own. [Music] walking these old medieval streets. It’s literally a maze. I just ended up walking down there and came to a big street with lots of shops. I will go back down there afterwards, but I just want to go down the streets of the night. Go down the bottom so I can come back up again and take photos. And then I might do the um walking around the wall before it gets too hot. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] I’m in the grounds of the Palace of the Grand Masters. I’ve just walked through the big gates and there’s a lot of areas that you can come into for free where where I am now. Not a lot here, but nice walks, nice gardens. [Music] This is where you would go to start the walk on the walls, but it’s obviously locked. So, I’m going to go in and ask cuz I really want to do the the walk, but there’s no signs unless they’re doing some work or something. I’ll just show you what it looks like as you start to go in. Yeah. Oh, I wonder what’s wrong then. Unless they’re having a break. This gives you an idea of how big the old town is. So, obviously, this is where I am. And this brown line all the way around there is the wall. Well, sort of. We can only go through so far. And I think we come off out there. Walk on the wall is open from 12 until 3. And I’ve asked you can pay separately so I don’t have to go and pay to go into the palace again. The walk is Monday to Friday, 12 until 3. So, I’m going to go for a coffee and I’ll be back. [Music] €3 for the walk. [Music] [Music] This is such a really nice walk. Really, really nice walk. I think it’s around 2 miles, I think. So, you can feel it getting hotter as the day goes on. I just overheard someone say it’s about 33 at the minute. And it’s um about half 12. You can get down there. I’ll show you in a minute when I come to a bit of an opening. You can get down there, but I’m not sure how. I went for a drink. I had a Coke in Socrates Garden. It’s really nice there. Again, it’s somewhere where I went before. It’s quite hard to miss actually. It’s down the street where all the shops are, but you can you can see a sign. And as you go down the hill, it’s on your right. And it’s really big. Lots of little nice areas to um have a drink and have some food. I’ve only ever had drinks in there. Yeah. €350 for a Coke with ice and then um yeah, great toilets. So, I was able to freshen up and top up my SPF. So, oh my gosh, this is so pretty. I don’t remember this. Hold on. Let’s turn you around. Look at the gardens. Wow. [Music] This There’s a few cruise ships in. I can spot two. There might be more around the corner. I don’t know what it is. One massive one. Anyway, next to the Oh, what is the Greek fairies called? I forgot. Sea jets. No, not sea jets. The fairies. Anyway, I’m actually going to go on a ferry to Simmyi in the morning and then I’m catching a catarang then back at about 600 7:00 at night, something like that. So, I’m going for a whole day tomorrow. [Music] I don’t remember this part at all. I’m sure we cut off just down there where I saw a lady, but there’s no entrance there. So, there is a blocked off entrance, but it’s literally blocked off with stones. Well, I’m carrying on going anyway. There’s no other way around it, I’m assuming. Then, I go all the way around there. And yeah, I don’t know where I end up. So, this is all new to me. I am in need now of some water. I can feel the heat getting to me a bit. I might be wrong. I might be wrong. I’m sure these are steps. I do remember steps going down. [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] This is the easiest walk back to the hotel only 8 minutes. Yeah, literally only 8 minutes before the start of where you can go into through the walls of the old town and it’s all in one line. I’ve got ADHD, dyslexia, and disalcular and I can’t do directions very well. If I follow them one way, then I can’t remember how to do anything backwards. So, I thought I’d challenge myself. And yeah, I’ve done it without looking on Google Maps. So if I can do it, anyone can do it. So no, no problem about me doing it at night now. So this is the road. My hotel is just around the corner there. You can see the statue in the roundabout. Up there up the side up there, you’ve got Bar Street. And this is the road then to take you to the old town. And it’s straight up there. So, this is where I’m catching the bus to go to Lindos. That’s my hotel, the blue sky city. And that’s the roundabout there. So, I’m looking out for a red manosco going. um bus handy place just like the Mitsus Grand up the road. All the bus stops for all the hop on and all that stop off right outside which is really good. Just waiting now. I just saw the Manos go in bus. Oh, excuse my hair. I just haven’t tried it since coming out the shower. And um yeah, he just went like this and then he went round the roundabout and he’s gone towards Ellie Beachway. I hope you’ll come around this side cuz it’s a oneway system. I think he didn’t say for me to go across a road, so I’m not too sure, but I’m thinking there’s a road there. I don’t know. I’ll spot him in a minute and we’ll see. I booked through Get Your Guide and it was €24 to book it through the hotel. I think it was like something like 29 or 35, something like that. were a bit more expensive. But yeah, I’ve been to Lindos before. It’s beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s like at night. [Laughter] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] I can’t remember how to go up to the Acropolis now. So, I’m guessing the donkeys are going, even though I don’t like seeing people on top of them. It’s quite slippy. I’ve got some flip-flops on, which isn’t the best thing to wear, but my other shoes weren’t were hurting me. I don’t remember coming up this way at all. There might be two ways to go up. I’m still following the donkeys and I can see it up above me. So, I don’t think it’s that far. [Music] Cost 12 to get in. And that was the quickest way I got up here. Last time I walked through the town. This time I just went on the outskirts. I don’t know. Yeah, I was here before I knew it. So, not too bad, but yeah, definitely better footwear would be a lot better. Takes about an hour and a half from roads to come to Lindos and we’ve got about 2 and 1/2 hours here. I got to get back to the bus at around4 9. So, I’ve been here before. Beautiful place. Really, really lovely. And just wanted to see what it’s like at sunset. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] My legs are shaking. [Music] I won’t [Music] heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Heat. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Just got back. I was thinking about going um for a drink down in the bar, but I’m just too tired. So, I’m going to get everything that I need to go on my trip to Simei tomorrow. I’ve got a bit of a walk. I think it’s about 35 minute walk over to the port. Uh so yeah, I need to get up early. The Lindos trip was good. I forgot to say that actually there’s only 1,000 inhabitants that live in Lindos and during the summer they have up to 25,000 people visit during the day which is absolutely crazy. I’ve got a boat trip um in a couple of days time. I got 3 hours in Lindos in the morning. I’m expecting it to be a lot busier than what it was tonight. It was really busy tonight. Just sweated so much. Lindos is definitely hotter and more humid than at the top here.
🇬🇷 Rhodes, Greece – Solo Trip Day 1 – 22nd August 2024 🇬🇷
📍 Blue Sky City Hotel – Rhodes Town
For my first solo trip abroad, I returned to a familiar place: Greece! After visiting Rhodes in April 2023 and falling in love with the Old Town, I knew I had to come back—this time solo.
I booked a half-board EasyJet holiday, staying at the Blue Sky City Hotel—an adults-only hotel right by the beach and just a short walk to the Old Town. While the hotel was great, I wouldn’t do half-board again—dining alone in restaurants is actually fine!
🗺️ Old Town Highlights
Roloi Clock Tower (€5 incl. a freddo coffee): Stunning panoramic views.
Street of the Knights: A quiet morning stroll along this 600m medieval street.
Palace Walls (€3): Didn’t go inside the palace as i had been the year before (you can see more in my Rhodes travel vlogs April 2023) but loved walking the walls—even if I regretted forgetting water!
🍴 Food & Drink Stops
Minos Rooftop Bar: Great Caesar salad and views—hidden gem near the Palace walls.
Socratous Garden: Lovely shaded garden tucked into the busy shopping streets—perfect for a quick break.
Spent about 5 hours exploring before heading back to get ready for…
Part 2 – Lindos Sunset Trip 🌅
Booked through GetYourGuide (£24) with Manos Going – highly recommend! Picked up outside my hotel at 5pm for a 5/6-hour trip – linked here – https://gyg.me/sdEAW7eT
Despite the heat (34°C!), I climbed to the Acropolis of Lindos (entry €12). Amazing panoramic views and steeped in history. Took in the sunset on the way down—magical.
Stopped at Captain’s House Bar for an Aperol Spritz (realised I’d been there before!) and grabbed a savoury pancake on the go before heading back to the bus.
Lindos at night reminded me of Fira in Santorini—narrow streets, bustling atmosphere, so pretty.
💬 Never felt lonely—loved the freedom. Talking to the camera definitely helps too 😂
Next stop: Symi island… stay tuned for day 2!

Nice video. I did a few there last year. Fell in love with Lindos. I don’t like seeing adults on donkeys either. You’re right, there are two ways up to the acropolis.
Off to Kefalonia next week. Can’t wait !! 🇬🇷🤩
