Germany and Denmark Trip 2025 Day 2 Aachen #aachen #traveling #vacation #germany #denmark #travel

Hi, Joyce Dodge CMTO misses again. So, here we are on day two in our colence adventure. So, on this day, we took a train. We went up along the Rine and saw the city of Aken. What a pretty city that was. And uh we have an adventure that you see at the end of it where we hiked up the um through the Netherlands. Surprise. We hiked up to the three corners up there where had Netherlands, um Germany, and uh Belgium all came together. And so that was really fun. And it was fun just um how commercialized it was up there. I didn’t expect to see anything other than a black and there was all kinds of activity up there. So um anyway, I hope you enjoy. Here’s the video. All right, Joyce and I have made it to Aken, but it’s been an adventure getting here. Delay, delay. Missed the train. Delay, delay. and Aken help. And we are now in Aken. We’re going to work our way to the cathedral which is this way. Yeah. Okay. So, you can go inside over there. This is the Elizen Bunan little park. I’m going to go take a peek inside. So, we’re going to go through the doorway and see the fountain. I thought the fountain was on this side. I guess it’s on this side. Oh, okay. It’s uh it’s thermal mineral water. Thermal mineral water. There’s a hot spring here cuz a boon can also mean spring. I think of it as fountain. Yeah. Yeah. You can smell it. Yeah. But it’s hot. Yeah, that’s hot. That is hot. Hot. You can smell the sulfur. So, yeah, the amazing I don’t know if there was a good place to even try to take it. Uh, Legion Springs, but yeah, that that’s cold. So, that’s just regular water. But yeah, those were hot. Okay, that’s my first fun adventure today. All right, so kind of our first view of the towers of the cathedral and the rat house. So we’re heading in that direction. Hen of course was uh I believe in the American zone during World War II and uh fought and caught by the Americans and also suffered severe bombing damage. It’s a pretty enough park. All right. So, here we get a slightly better view. Obviously, so many of these are just once we get to the square around the side, we’ll we’ll probably get a slightly better view, more of a full view, but a lot of detail to it. Of course, this has been rebuilt since Charlemagne’s time a few times, but supposedly the one inner chamber is uh still there. Thank you. Yeah. Did you get a picture of that uh statue and fountain behind us? You can almost get the whole thing. All right. Yeah. Go ahead. Check it out this way, babe. So, we’re walking around the cathedral and filming some of the square in front of it. Oh, there you go. Uh these are p these are pieces from the thousand-y old these are replants the roses here from the thousand-y old rose bush in Hildy. Oh. So these are um you know saplings. No that’s the wrong term. It was planted in March of 2007 but it’s uh offshoots from the uh Okay. Take those pap. They say it is twinkbas. You can drink it. Press the button and it’ll pour out. There you go. Startled a pigeon. Okay, we’re in the dome hoof and I’m going to go way back there as far as I can go. I’ve waited a long time to be here. What’s going on? They charge you a euro if you want to take pictures. Oh my god, look at this. Look up. This is original. Let’s see. This is original. I have been Okay. Good job. Oh my god. I’ll get more pictures inside. Heat. Heat. That’s it. What do you think? Yeah. Okay. So once him and once his wife Apparently Otto thei and a couple others are buried here too. supposed to be a good luck. Stick your fingers. Yep. All right, we are now taking a break from the historical to the hobby or from one hobby to the other. Here is Hunabines Modell Bonsanta Hunabine. Oh my goodness. This is too big. This is the rat house. Let’s see. Can I do it this way? I still can’t get it all in. Ah, close. Ah, maybe. I need to do is get the panorama. Just not going to get it all in. Go ahead. And we’ll end it with a zoom in on Charlemagne. Carl Desa. take instead of buying the mice only. want picture. All right, we are at the Pontour, one of the few medieval gates remaining to Aken. That’s a real port colis though. Yeah, that’s real castle fortifications right there. Wow. Was there a river here at one time? I don’t know. You’ve got those buildings there that built like the old city walls. All right. Yeah, I plan on it. I wonder if that stairways is locked off. Reminds me a bit of Ghostla, the old arrow loops, but Oh yeah. Port call us a murder hall. everything. Say what? Oh, you’re liking that. Oh, cool. I didn’t know if you would find it. Some ways there’s memories of Brightest Tour at Golar, but it’s very different too. Yeah. Takes the end of the highway. The main north entrance. All right, Joyce and I are in the middle of the woods somewhere in the Netherlands walking to the three border point where Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands come. It has been all uphill. This video, you cannot see how steep it is. It is 100% uphill. It’s all uphill. Very steep. At least for me in the shape I’m in right now. But uh bus dropped us off in the middle of the town of Vals in Netherlands. And you walk. You’d think there’d be a tourist bus or something that goes up. Nope. How close about a kilometer and a half up to it. So, it’s about a 40m minute walk uphill. No, no, no. It’s the stones over there. Okay. Come back. We are going to check for tits tick now. All right, we have reached the area. There’s a real cool children’s playground back this way, but I think you have to be part of the camping group to get in it cuz they have campgrounds and hotels. And there’s an observation platform way up there. I don’t know if you noticed that. What’s that? There’s an obsation platform. So, oh my god, Verizon, get over it. You’ve entered Germany. Your travel path back in Germany. Yeah. Deutsche Joyce. So we are heading towards the three border. So we are now Oh, is it where the three flags are? How about that right there? No, it’s a stone thing. It’s over there. That’s just the central park. But yes, we are now I’m standing higher in the Netherlands than than you could stand. Okay. So now we’re going to go over here and that’s the three borders. Yeah. So here we go. So we are now in Belgium. You are standing in Belgium, dear. I think I’m splitting the difference. No, you’re not. You’re in Belgium. Do you see the lines? I see. Okay. Yeah, there’s lines here. So, Belgium, Netherlands, Deutseland, here. Yeah. And yet, Belgian and see the lines keep going. Yeah. Yeah, sure. And then we can walk back down uh Germany. I don’t know. Hello. Oops. All right. So, we are coming down the hill. We’re in the town of Vals now. And uh little valley here. most of it not agriculture. You got a big industrial complex over there and some land that’s been cultivated at times but looks like it’s fallen into disuse. Or maybe they’re just letting it set for a couple years before they crop it again. But a little easier coming down than going up. Faster, too.

On Our second full day in Germany, we took a train to Aachen, Germany, a place Anthony has wanted to visit for a very long time. We took in Charlemagne’s Cathedral and more sites. We then headed up to the 3-Borders-Point where Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands meet. I loved the hike up, and I learned it was the tallest hill in the Netherlands. So, we both got a great experience from the trip.
