The Most Underrated City in Alsace, France? Mulhouse Surprised Us!

Today we’re in Maul House, a city known for its rich industrial past and incredible food scene. Let’s see what this city in Alsace region of France has to offer. [Music] We’re starting out in the heart of downtown Mall House, the Pla Reunion. And it’s the main square here. It has the main church here. It has the city hall that’s decorated beautifully with paintings and it’s all pink and grand and there’s even like a little carousel here. There’s a lot happening, lots of cafes and restaurants. But before we go into anything here, we’re going to get some coffee and some petisserie. [Music] So after having that cappuccino, we need a sweet treat. So we went to a peter and we got a very famous French. So, it’s laminated pastry though with chocolate. Let’s give this a try. I’m excited. It’s almost like a mix between like a very fluffy doughut and a pastry on the inside, which is really weird. You would think the laminated dough would be very flaky on the inside, but the inside is like almost like bready, but not bready. Pretty tasty, though. If you like chocolate and you like pastries, you’ll like this. There were also very cute desserts that resemble little fruits. We were hoping to get one that looked like a raspberry from what we saw online, but we went with the mango one. And each of them have the flavor of the fruit that they’re supposed to look like, obviously. So, let’s try. Oh, man. That was a crazy crunch. You can see there’s a very light mousse layer and then there’s more of like a jellied mango layer. That top layer of fluff is so delicately light and then that jelly layer of mango is so so flavorful. It packs a full mango punch. [Music] So, as stated before, here is the main church of Maul House. It’s the Temple St. Eton, and it is the largest, it’s the tallest Protestant church in France. And from the inside, people say it’s very beautiful. It has amazing stained glass windows, and there’s even a tower you can go up to uh see an overview of Mole House. And we wish we could do that, but sadly today it is closed and we can’t go in the church. But if you come here to visit, remember that that is an option and you should probably do it. [Music] The beautiful city hall actually has a museum about the city and the surrounding area inside. But sadly, we found out that it is also closed today. So, word to the wise, if you want to come to Mo House, do not come on a Tuesday because the church and this is closed. I don’t know if we’re going to end up coming back another day because we’re staying in Mo house. So, I don’t know if we’ll end up being able to come back another day and checking it out, but it’s not looking too good. So, keep that in mind. [Music] Mall House is also known for its vibrant street art. And this isn’t graffiti. This is actually city sponsored art. There’s a ton you can find throughout the city, like this mural here, which is probably the most famous one, I believe. And there is a self-guided walking tour you can do to hit all of the spots. And as we’re wandering, we’re just appreciating the ones we come by. [Music] Hey, [Music] why you mean mugging me? [Music] So, for lunch, we got food from a place called Petite Marcel Rotisserie. And it’s one of the top rated restaurants here in Mall House. And what they’re known for, obviously, is their rotisserie chicken. And I don’t know if you can classify this as Alsatian food, but since we’re in Alas, I’m gonna count it. We were gonna eat there, but we saw you needed reservations, and we weren’t sure if we could get reservations the same day and stuff, so we ended up just getting take out, so that’s why we’re not actually eating there. The rotisserie chicken, that is very moist chicken. Very, very good. And these the sauces that’s at the bottom of this container. If you dip it in that even better. I can see why everyone comes there for the chicken. Another famous dish is the cordon blue. It’s ham and cheese with a crunchy crust. Let’s give it a try. The cordon blue. That’s really good. Back in United States. I’m not a huge fan of cordon blue. So I was excited to try this. See if it’s any better in France. And definitely way better in France. The chicken usually back in the United States is very dry and not good. Chicken here is very moist. The ham is a nice flavor. The sauce is really good. I think there’s a lemon flavor in the sauce. So that’s why they give you a little lemon to squeeze on it, too. Also really tasty. They also give you a salad and fries with every entree you get. So you get a lot of food for the price and it’s all very, very good and high quality. We highly recommend Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Mall House is famous for its many museums. To name a few, there is this one, the Electropolis Electricity Museum that we’re going to be going into, the Train Museum that is right beside it, and the Automobile Museum, which is not exactly right here, but close by. And we’re excited to go into this museum and see what all the talk about mall museums are for. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Atoms contain countless electric particles. Electricity is there invisible waiting to be set in motion. And today what has changed? Electricity has been transferred. This energy has become a flow of data as well. But we are only at the beginning of this adventure. Mythologies for the Kelts. Storms were a sign of terrorist anger. He literally made the sky fall on their heads. But terrorists only punished those that did evil deeds. That’s it. It was electric. [Music] department. [Music] Hey [Music] This thing is freaking huge. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Got him. It’s operation. [Music] [Music] Well, that electricity museum is really cool. Uh, I wasn’t sure what it was going to be when we were going into it. But we tried to read the reviews online and I wasn’t sure there was going to be a lot. But wow, that is a really big museum dedicated to just one topic, which is electricity. Um, it’s really cool when you walk in there’s all these little miniatures and they try to go through like the history of electricity really quickly and show you like lighting up towns, how dams create electricity, power plants, nuclear power plants, etc. Um and then after that you start to go through all the different eras of electricity. So then as they go through the periods they talk about all the scientists how they were working with static electricity trying to store it into a battery all the very popular names you may have heard of in electricity and science uh like Voltater Tesla Westinghouse um Alexander Graanbell. They had a section on telephone. Uh, and it was really neat. As you worked your way through, they showed all the different areas of areas of electricity. Rachel was trying to figure out which device is this. They had a cool little mini game where you had to guess what this device was. Oh, yeah. That was fun. And they had a section on the myths of behind like lightning, thunder. So, it had across all the different uh cultures, the myths that were associated, most of them had a lightning god. Yeah, it was really cool. I mean, we were surprised. Um, and then as we’re working our way through, you know, then there’s the, you know, between the World Wars, there’s all these crazy devices and after the wars, TVs, espresso machines, really cool stuff. Um, and then all of a sudden we like hear this noise. And I did see uh online that they had this crazy big machine. I think it’s like an alternator. So we step in. It’s probably four stories tall amphitheater with this alternator or some type of engine running. And it’s really crazy. It’s so big. And the videos really don’t do it justice how huge it is in person. And if you’re an English speaker, French speaker, or I think German, they pretty much have translations for all those. And then you get to after the big engine, there’s like a future of electricity, and they have some like Black Mirror style, like the Netflix show Black Mirror, like what’s the future going to look like? Um, then you go into the kids section, which is really interesting. There’s all kinds of fun like demonstrations of electricity and, you know, connect this to that and spin this wheel and stuff like that. So that was interesting. And then also that, you know, it’s cool enough for that museum, but then you step outside into this really pretty garden. Beautiful. So many bees flying around, birds singing if you can’t hear one right now. And uh they even have other electricity related uh equipment and creations out here. So pretty cool. I mean, and we’re I think literally like the only ones in there. There was one other real small group, but that was it. So, it was really nice having us all to itself. So, if you’re in Mo house and you’re a science nerd or a STEM nerd or you just want something to do that’s kind of interesting, come check out the electricity museum. Well worth it. It exceeded our expectations. [Music] got a really funny white butt. Ooh, she got her high heels on. Go, girl. Oh, and her stockings. As we said before, the train museum is right next to Electropolis. So, if you want to hit both of them in one day, it’s very easy to do. So, we’re not going to go in this one just because we kind of there’s only so many museums you can do. And we just wanted to do one of them and we were impressed with the one that we did do, but if you have a train fan in your life or if you love trains, you have to check out this. Also, we heard on the reviews online, it’s very loud with all the train whistles and stuff. So, if you have a little kid or somebody’s sensitive, you might want to bring them ear muffs or something to put in their ear. We went into mall house. I mean, we’re staying in mall house just to be uh close to Euro Vision this year, actually. That’s the reason why we’re here, but we figured why not check out the city. We didn’t really have high expectations for it, but honestly, this is one of my favorite days of the trip so far. It far surpassed our expectations. It was just super chill and relaxed. Not too many people. It was beautiful out. Uh, beautiful sightes to see. Yeah, mall house surprised me. Another uh bonus is not a ton of tourists. So, if you’re looking for maybe a more authentic experience where you don’t see a ton of tourists or tourist groups, I definitely recommend Mo House. And the little food we did have was delicious. All right. Well, we have more to see in the Alsatian region of France. So we hope you join us when we check out Straburg and Kmar. Until then, [Music]

We spent the day exploring Mulhouse France. Located in the beautiful Alsace region of France, this city felt like a true hidden gem, tucked away from the usual tourist trail.

We started in downtown Mulhouse, grabbing pastries at the delightful Le Bocal before taking in the towering Temple Saint-Étienne and the beautiful pink City Hall in the main square. While we walked around the city, we were amazed by all the street art. It gives Mulhouse an energetic, creative vibe.

For lunch, we dove into some hearty Alsatian food from Petit Marcel La Rôtisserie (still dreaming of the chicken cordon bleu). We spent the afternoon at one of the many museums in Mulhouse. We chose the Electropolis Museum. It brought the history of electricity to life in such a fun and unexpected way!

This was one of those cities we didn’t expect to love as much as we did, and we think you will too.
