Day 1 St. Jean Pied de Port – Roncesvilles, Footsteps on the Camino De Santiago

[Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Okay, so here we go. Day one of my essential. Beautiful. And we have the super keen. Okay. And we’re off. [Music] All righty. I don’t know how much you can see of me yet. The sun is starting to rise over the horizon. And um this is Good Friday 2026 and it is day one of my Camino. Footsteps on the Camino. So I’ve just left St. John Peter Paw at 6:00 in the morning. It was still pitch black. Uh had a lovely breakfast and uh yeah, living the dream, I guess. Um it’s just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I’ll shut up for a minute and stop banging on about it. And you listen to the bird song. Hey friend, you’re my sunrise. We light up the cloudy skies. From classroom walls to endless streets, every moment feels so sweet. And that right down there is where I came from this morning. [Music] That’s awesome. [Music] [Music] chasing dreams. If you excuse me huffing and puffing, [Music] what a glorious day. A glorious morning to start my walk. [Music] Sun’s just come up. Beautiful orange skies. It’s just lovely. Winkino. [Music] [Music] I feel like I’m in a plane. It’s so high up. Mountain way off in the distance. It’s covered in snow. We’re about a K out of Orison. And it’s still going up. According to our uh host last night at the Jet, this is the most steep part between St. John and Orason. I’ll find out whether that’s true or not. But I’ll tell you what, the weather gods have well and truly turned it on for us today. Absolutely glorious weather. And there’s quite a few pilgrims who are walking with us. So you’re never alone unless you choose to be. So winkabino. Heat. Heat. [Music] Turn this on. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Okay, so that was Orrison and a lovely breakfast And onward and upward toward Ronas. As you can see, see the day is still beautiful. No bloody prissy walks here. See us later. Bonamino. [Music] Still going up. Glorious day. [Music] How’s that for a view? [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] I can be my friend. [Applause] [Music] I found a spot just out of the wind and it’s blowing like Billio. Very, very nice spot. [Music] And here as I’ve just come back into the wind again, This is the pain. [Music] Onwards and upwards. [Music] [Applause] Can you do it? [Music] Oh my god, listen to that wind. [Music] It’s impossible. [Music] Francis. Hola. Espa. [Music] 429 m. There we go. [Music] That’s the cycl. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. N. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music]

Join me as I go for walks around the world. I will continue to do Camino’s and record my travels and post them onto YouTube.
This is my journey from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvilles, which starts in Saint Jean Pied de Port Friday 18 April, 2025. (Good Friday)

Today I’ll be starting my journey in the dark before making my way up through the Pyrenees via Orisson, to Roncesvilles. I’ve since been told that the way was snowing the day before and the day after I walked. No snow today, but oh how the wind got up as I made my way further over the Pyrenees.

Lots of pilgrims making their way today as we hike westwards. Stay tuned for more episodes as I do them.

Join me as I continue on my journey by foot as I enjoy my pilgrimage from Saint Jean Pied de Port France to Santiago de Compostela in north west Spain . I have recently been diagnosed with cumulative PTSD after years of policing. Hiking is the best medicine for me and the Camino is a bonus as the healing process begins with walking forward.

Thanks for joining me and don’t forget to subscribe so that you get the latest episodes as I upload them.
