Neuschwanstein Castle German: Schloss Neuschwanstein, or Neuschwanstein Castle, is a historic 19th-century palace located on a rugged hill at the foot of the Alps in southernmost Germany, near the Austrian border. It is located in the Swabian region of Bavaria, in the municipality of Schwangau, above the village of Hohenschwangau, where Hohenschwangau Castle is also located. The nearest large town is Füssen. The castle is located above the narrow gorge of the Pöllat stream, east of the Alpsee and Schwansee lakes, near the mouth of the Lech into the Forggensee.
