Recorriendo la Provence: lavanda, flores y magia
Today we’re going to explore Provence, one of the most beautiful regions in southern France, not only for its incredible lavender fields in bloom, but also for all its wonderful landscapes. To begin our tour of the lavender fields, we decided to base ourselves in the famous city of Aix-en-Provence. The city is one of the most important capitals in the region , preserving a beautiful historic center that surprises with its architecture and colors. It’s the birthplace of Paul Cézanne and still inspires artists, dreamers, and travelers from all over the world. What you shouldn’t miss is the relaxed atmosphere of its lively streets and, of course, all the little things to try and enjoy in the region’s gastronomy. Now we’re going to explore the lavender fields. But first, there are two important points to consider : where and when. Before you start planning your trip, keep in mind that there are approximately 1,000 km of lavender field routes. One option is to start the tour from Avignon, another from Aix-en-Provence as we did , or, if not, directly south from Grasse. The second important point to keep in mind is the timing, because depending on the area you’re visiting, there may be differences in the dates. This is the flowering map. The lightest starts on June 10th, the second starts on June 20th, and the darkest, the last, starts on July 1st. If the goal of the trip is to see the lavender fields, to avoid disappointment before planning it, you should check the dates, just in case, according to the area you want to visit so you don’t miss this wonder and see the lavender fields in bloom. When you walk through these lavender fields, remember that they have been cultivated for centuries and are still worked with traditional methods. Furthermore, the environment, climate, and sunshine make the varieties here truly unique. We arrived in Valensole, one of the must-see stops on the lavender routes. It’s a small town that, while very touristy today, retains its architecture and the imprint of the villages of southern France. It’s also a good place to visit if you’re not planning to visit one of the distilleries to buy and discover lavender-related products : essential oils, perfumes, soaps, or honey. But above all, enjoy the tranquility of a Provençal village in summer. We return to the route and continue exploring the wonder of the lavender fields. But know that this isn’t the only option; there are other options. If you’re truly interested in the world surrounding this fabulous plant, you can, for example, organize a visit to a distillery, workshops on the plant and its uses, visit local artisan producers, or visit one of the museums or businesses along the lavender route. There are many more exclusive and immersive options. It’s a matter of research, time, and, of course, budget. We didn’t finish because we said goodbye to the lavender fields, but we decided to continue the route a little further and arrive to see one of the most impressive landscapes in France, the Gorges du Verdon. These gorges or canyons are formed by the Verdon River, located between the Alps and the Var. They are up to 700 meters deep and extend for 25 km. This is one of the most famous panoramic routes in the region , allowing you to observe the turquoise waters and the unique beauty of this landscape from above . It’s an ideal place for nature and adventure lovers, where you can do many activities . It’s definitely worth remembering, and we’ll be back. That’s for sure. This concludes our tour. We hope you enjoyed it. We left Paris a bit, but we wanted to see the spectacle of the lavender fields in bloom this year. Thank you very much, and have a good trip.
