Hersonissos Beaches & Coves Guide | Crete Travel Tips
The coves of Hersonissos (Limanakia) stretch from Cape Sarandaris to the port of Hersonissos, just 27 km from Heraklion.
These coves are known for their calm, clear waters due to protection from the northwest winds. Starting at the rocky western edge near the chapel of Agios Georgios Sarandaris, you’ll find a cement dock popular for diving and snorkeling. Just below the limestone cliffs lies the sandy beach of Cape Sarandaris—shallow, peaceful, and favored by those avoiding crowds.
Nearby is a naturist beach, hidden and quiet, protected by high cliffs.
Sarandari Beach follows, easily accessed by a stairway and popular with families for its shallow water and small canteen 🍉.
Giofyri Beach offers deeper water, coarser sand, and a more organized setting. Walking east, you’ll encounter a series of narrow beaches with striking light blue water, leading to the wide beach in front of the Creta Maris Hotel. From there, the route ends at the port of Hersonissos with shops, cafés, and a view of Kastri Hill.
Even if you don’t swim, this area is ideal for a coastal afternoon walk, camera in hand.
