Seriously, what is this place?
This is Agios Nikolaos , a coastal town on the Greek island of Crete 🇬🇷
And this is Lake Voulismeni, the bustling hub and beautiful heart of Agios Nikolaos.
Once upon an ancient time, the little lagoon was a freshwater lake. Legend holds that Athena and Artemis would bathe its deep, clear waters.
Then in 1907, the French dug a narrow channel to connect the lake to the sea.
Today, Agios Nikolaos with its lively lakefront and seafront, is a wonderful place to be.
Chic boutique hotels, cafes, bakeries, tavernas, and shops line the pretty streets.
Waterfront promenades, public art, and beach bars invite you to sun-soaked days and music-filled nights.
Agios Nikolaos makes a delightful home base to explore the Lasithi area.
