Cinque Terre Italy ๐ฎ๐น | Full Travel Guide + Hidden Gems | Journey Through the 5 Coastal Villages
[Music] Chinqiter, a tapestry of five medieval towns stitched along a breathtaking coastline of the Italian Riviera. With its dramatic cliffs, charming villages, and deeprooted culture, every stop along the way is an invitation to slow down and feel. In this video, we will share our personal experiences and practical tips, covering where to stay, how to get around, the best places to explore, iconic viewpoints, and hidden gems that made our trip unforgettable. So stay with us till the end. This is not just a guide, it’s our story of Chinker. Tucked along the lurian coast, Chinkuter is a string of five fishing villages. Riojor, Manorola, Cornelia, Veraza, and Montroso Almare. To move between them is simple. The Chinquter train runs like a heartbeat through the cliffs connecting every village in minutes. But more on logistics later. Let’s start with the towns one by one. We boarded an early morning train from Laspasia, the gateway to Chinquter. You can purchase train tickets from self-service kiosks or ticket office for โฌ5 one way, which can really add up fast. Instead, we suggest to get a Chinqiter card. A daily pass costs โฌ18. These cards can be purchased at every single station of Chinuer or Latzia. These trains run between Levantu and Latzia are frequent almost every 20 minutes during the day with most towns being just 2 to 5 minutes away. Just one stop because Rio Major is the first of the Chinkata villages. That is where we are going to stay. Rio Major. Rio Major. This is where we stayed. The southernmost of the five villages. Colorful, cozy, humming with local life. A village that greets you with narrow stairs, winding alleys, and a harbor that seems pulled from a painting. Our host Giovanni was warm, witty, and generous. We areing we are videl amazing bokashia freshly made and lots of food by this lovely lady. I take the cakea made my uncle in the night. Wow. We dropped our baggages and then to go to the marina you have to go from here. So we’ll cover this at a later part but for now Mont Roso the largest and flattest of the five towns if you are looking for the beach vibes umbrellas dotting the sand the first of the five villages. So the moment you get down from the train station you get to see the beach pretty much immediately. Look at that. There are beach chairs and umbrella that you can rent. There’s a free beach just behind the station. So if you want to really enjoy your sunbathing and beach time, visit Montter Roso. At the northernmost tip of the beach, you will find the il jigante. At the extreme end of Monttero Almare, a giant neptune statue standing like a weathered sentinel just to beat the heat. [Music] Don’t miss the old town. reached by walking past the station and along the cliffside path near the Aurora Tower. Built over half a millennium ago to protect the city from pirates. [Music] This path offers some of the best views of the coastline. The cobbled streets of the old town are lined with charming shops, cafes, and the church of San Joani Batista, a Gothic beauty with white and black striped marble. Oldtown Montroso is great for taking a stroll as it’s mostly flat unlike any other of the Chinker towns. Pixar films Luca the movie is inspired by the settings of this place. Interestingly, the name of the place Mont Ponttoo Monttoso which sounds so similar to Montroso Montroso. It’s not hard to see why with Montroso and Vernaza being the most significant influences on its design. Cannot go wrong with this place. Gilati artali. Amazing gelato. I think now we should go to our next destination which is Bernaza. Take the blue trail to Bernaza. Now we could have taken the train to Vernadza but some paths are meant to be walked. So we took the blue trail from Montroso. A hike carved into cliffs winding through lemon orchards and sun soaked vineyards. With the sea to our right and the mountains hugging us close, it was more than just a trail. It was a conversation with the coastline. That’s the point where they will check your tickets. So there are two options. You can either get the track only. Better deal is to get the card daily pass. These hikes they will be steep stairs a little bit rocky jaded uh but again can’t complain. Now the terrace cultivation vineyards I have seen in one of the Rick Steves videos that they literally maintain these [Music] Our first view of Veraza. And then came that view. As you descend, Veraza appears. Rooftops stacked like a puzzle. Boats bobbing in the harbor and the Dorya Castle standing guard. It’s one of the most photographed spots in Italy and it earns every shutter click. Finally, after a long, long journey, we have reached Veraza. This town’s main path guides you down, going past gelato shops and colorful stores. Once at the harbor, you get the prettiest views, the best swimming spots, the fishing boats, the soft bustle of the square. If you need to get the best views of the town, you need to climb to the path we came from during our hike from Montroso. So follow the signs to the Montroso trail which will take you from the main road to the narrow streets and winding staircases. [Music] Please stand behind. We are off to Major. They’re going to take the vi to Manorola. We’ll walk that pave path. Closed for almost 10 odd years and now it has opened finally. Lucky that we are getting a chance to see this wonderful engineering marvel. This narrow trail hugs the cliff side in a way that feels both impossible and divine. With your Chimpeter card day pass, you can also purchase the oneway via de la More pass for โฌ10. But here is the insider tip. If you staying at one of Rio Major or Manora, then your hotel will provide you with a QR code using which you can go back and forth the via de la More as many times as you want. And trust me, with a little time in hand, you would possibly want to do that. To walk it is to walk between sea and sky with nothing but beauty to distract you. Manorola awaited at the end. While Manora is the second smallest town, it might be arguably the most scenic. With a main street dotted with shops and eeries, this quiet little town is full of charm. Cascade of pastel homes pour down into the sea. Cling on to the cliffs create a dynamic backdrop. From these pascal houses to the clock tower and the church Manora is one of its kind. It’s a small harbor. There is a small beach to relax and some cliffs for the bors. Manora is also the perfect village to catch the golden sunset. Marquy Chinkera picture is one of Manorola. So you have to go closer to a restaurant called Nesson Dorma. And if you don’t have reservations then don’t worry. There are other places from where also you can capture these amazing sunset views. So you got to come closer to the place where the flag is ledge near Nesson Dorma. Even if you don’t eat there, the view alone is nourishment for the soul. And wow, the view the one from the photos, the screen savers, the daydreams. Just seeing it with the sea breathing below and the sky caressing above was a moment already full. That night we grabbed a crispy salty fish cone. One of Chimpeter’s simplest and most delightful gifts. Mixed fish cone which is a famous delicacy in Chinker. Almost every village has it. And that was the end of day one. Day two brought clouds, the kind that deepen colors and soften noise. Having an extraordinary time at Rio Major to seeing the sunny side of Shinkader yesterday. Today’s relief of the overcast condition, the cloud, the the sky is making it look even prettier. So, let’s go. Don’t miss the faukashia and uh definitely try out some of the uh vegetable cake because these are extraordinary. We trying it and obviously the star of the show is a freshlymade restaurant. Today we took another stroll through Via de la get this V de Laore lineup and here it grows even more. So today not being the most conducive of weather, it’s still a long line I would say. [Music] Back to Manorola. I took the train to one village we hadn’t yet met, Cornelia. No harbor, no beach, just a staircase. All the way. Only village not directly accessible from the sea. And in order to reach Cornelia, apart from the hikes, you can from the station, you have to take the Larina. The Larina, 382 steps that lift you from the tracks to the cliffs. Reached the top. And once there, Cornelia unfolds slowly. Smaller and quieter, Cornelia feels like a secret. With narrow lanes, ancient stone corners, and a pace that dares you to slow down. There’s no rush here, just beauty and stillness. At the city center, you will find quite an attractive sculpture decorating the Patza Larotio and the background basilica. A memorial to the fallen soldiers in the World War I. With this kind of view, you cannot get wrong with Cornelia. Yeah, it’s a little pain, but it’s worth the pain. People who are doing the hike from uh Bernaza to Cornelia, they will be amazed, mesmerized with these kind of vineyards. So guys, that was Cornelia. And as if to gift us a closure, Rio Majori gave us one last masterpiece. A sunset so rich, so golden, it felt like it had been painted just for us. We grabbed the pizza, sat at the harbor steps, and watched the sky fold into night. The marquee Rio Major views. The most incredible of all the views, I believe, happens to be our home base. But this is what I came for. The final chapter of our Rio Madori and Jinger trip. Amazing experience guys. And in that stillness we felt full of stories, steps and something more. Now let’s go over some important points. So if you’re flying into Italy, Pisa and Genua airports are around 90 minutes away. Florence is also only 3 hours away from Chinqitere. We came from Pisa, took the train to Laspedia and from there we purchased the Chinu card and got into the train. To move around the towns, there are three main options. Number one, by far the most convenient option is the train with most towns being just 2 to 5 minutes away and it’s a no-brainer. There are multiple tickets to choose from. We suggest to get a Chinqer card, unlimited train rides between these towns, use of trails between Montroso and Bernaza and then from Bernanaza to Cornelia. With the Chinqer card, you can also hike between the towns. So, hiking is the second most popular way to explore these towns. If you are visiting just for a day, we suggest taking one hike at least, potentially the one between Montroso and Bernatza. A great option to get the taste of hike is to do the via de laore between Rio Major and Manorola. [Music] Third option to move around is to take the ferry. Although expensive, the ferry is a great way to get different perspective of the towns. The ticket booths are at the marina of the various towns. While definitely you can be a day tripper from Latzia which has several cheap options to stay, staying overnight in Chinqiter at least for 2 days gives you another bite. Mainly the early mornings and the evenings are magical. Chinquter doesn’t care what you see. It cares what you feel. Not a checklist, but a memory. Vivid, vibrant, and forever alive. [Music]
