Welcome back to a brand new episode to another awesome day in Charmin. Just checked the glaciers out behind us. This campsite is called the two glaciers and you can see why. There’s one there. You can see where it’s melting back and there’s one there coming down this side. Unbelievable scenes from the van. In this series of vlogs, we drive from France to Switzerland in one day, then get snowed in. We visit the Italian lakes, pop into Venice for the day, and finally enjoy the city of Anacey in the sunshine. All in our new camper van, Vagabond. So, relax and explore with us. Yeah, boy. So today me and Lan are going to get the cog train up into the mountains and I think we can get into one of the glaciers and have a look out at the top. It’s going to be awesome. So stay tuned. We’ll take you on our day today. Let’s go. [Music] It’s roasting Lula. Gorgeous. I’m still not put my jumper on now. Although I probably need it when I’m up there. [Music] There’s loads of power gliders out already. A right soar in the the upwinds over the mountains. It’s awesome to watch. So, I think we’ve changed his mind on the cog train at last minute. You never actually made your mind up. This sorty bottom lip thing till you got your own way. Oh, no. I didn’t. I didn’t. Yeah, you have. It just looks so good. The other attraction that we’re looking to do is the Au Dier Shaman Mlanc. Apparently, it’s the closest you can get to being on top of Mont Blanc without actually hiking up there. So, €74 each. It’s clear sky on this way. We’re just racing now because said it’s going to cloud over around 12, which looks like it’s coming over this way. So, we want to get up there. Even though we went to the top of a mountain in Switzerland went to Berg. When we got up there, the visibility was panned. So, it was such a shame cuz it was just thick fog. You couldn’t see anything. So, at the minute, it’s good. It looks amazing. 160 quid. S it. Let’s do it. Let’s try and get up there before that comes over and blocks us off. So, I’ll be gutted if we spend all that money and we get up there and that’s come over. We can’t see anything. So that’s the first leg. The cable car is up that goes over that brow. Then up and up and up. Let’s go. An’s getting tickets now. It’s absolutely roasting down here. We’ve stomped down. So we changed his mind. We got rat sweat on now. Take me jump off. Got with tickets. Bonjour. Ponjour. Oh my god. The ladies advised us. It’s uh a little bit cloudy up there now. Just hope. We decided we’re just going to do it. Hopefully, we’ve just got a bit of a window. It we can get a break while we’re up there. I think we can have about 2 and a half hours up there. The calf and other bits. It still wants to go. So, hopefully it’s not a waste of 160 quid. The man’s just had a look on the webcam. It is just gone a bit white over, but there’s patches. So, it’s just that part there that sat over it. I make decision like I’ve got in my head now like a toddler. Oh yeah. You got got in your head to do something. That’s it. I’m doing it. So sure be good. Let’s go. Ticket. Check these guys out with the parachute. And we’re off. Just that one over there over the top. just covered over the first ridge now. Goes up again. It is a pop. Wow. This is amazing. Yeah. You can feel the cold air going through the the windows now. We are in the snow line. Whoa. Imagine running and jumping over that edge. What you doing? You got to have some faith in your shoe. I want to change car. So, we got the first platform. Just skyh to this station. Waiting for the the passengers to get off. We’re going to get on this one and go up again. Get your tickets ready, please. I don’t think we go on the way back or not. Yeah. Oh yeah, we’ll stop at that bar on way back down later. Yeah. Unbelievable. Weirdly, it’s still really warm still here in the sun. What a view from up here. Charmin down at the bottom. This is unbelievable. Such a shame. When we went up Berg in Switzerland, it was just white over a way to the summit. There is a bar at the bottom. I think you stop there on the way back. So, we’re going to pop in there and have a drink. Rent you can climb over the barrier. I don’t know if there is a barrier. I think it’s like a decked area and get into the snow cuz there definitely people making like snowmen and things. So, hopefully we keep this weather for a bit longer cuz it still looks quite clear and bright. So, Brent’s got a smiley face still. Got 360 camera out the window. [Music] Oh my gosh. [Music] Wow, look at that. Crisps. Just made everybody jump on. And if you probably hear that pop on the camera, that’s the packet of crisp pops expanded. It’s fresh beard out. I think I put my jump back on. Just walking through from the cable car. Proper cold, crisp, fresh air blowing through here. Here we go. Where’s that cloud coming from? Did warn us about the cloud. Hopefully it blows over him. I get a a break. Wow. Just look at that. So, I think we just got a 60 m lift. take you up to the restaurant at the top. I think viewing viewing area if you get it round. Do you think is it lift here? Bessie 60 minute just getting the lift to the top. We’ve just got proper dizzy. It does say on this board get bitsy and a bit dizzy. There we go. I don’t think it’s help not having much food. Do you? We had breakfast already. It must make it. I think that cloud’s coming though, unfortunately. Hopefully, it blows over. I think there’s like a little bar here they’re queuing up for. And if see that there look the glass platform you stand on. Must feel like you’re on the edge of the world there. That’s crazy. That reminds me of years ago when me and my brother went up uh the tower in Toronto the glass floor walked walking around up there. That was mad. Yes, Luly. Crazy. It wasn’t too bad, but then now that like fog’s coming out, that’s got a real crisp bite to it. Wow. I don’t think you can see anything this way now. I think these are queuing for that. It’s glass standing platform. Yeah, they are. That’s crazy. Glad we didn’t get a full white out like when we on Mount Burger, Switzerland. That was all round. Got to just can’t see anything. It takes it takes it away because obviously you can’t see the the altitude in the distance. We’re stood in the queue for the um glass bridge. Um it said an hour wait, but it’s not been that long. Um we’re at 15 minutes now and it’s a bit warmer in here. Yeah, it looks like it’s clearing a bit as well. Have to put these like slippers on for the glass floor. nearly I said to Brent, bearing in mind he wanted to do this and ditch my glacia door. I said, “Are you happy for an hour?” I was like, “Not on the moon. I’m not kidding.” So I think I can see better outside. I think you could feel better if you shuffle very far backwards. All I’m trying to shuffle along. The shoes don’t come with you. That’s why do a good selfie. Go, go, go. Whoa. This is crazy. Thank you. Thank you very much. It’s good. Hey, amazing. You got to shuffle out. That was fun. It did take about an hour to be fair. I went proper headed coming out of there. Oh, how do I get to fresh air? Well, when you fresh air, you get a bit more air. Just in the lifting again. Go back down the 60 m. I think we have to get some stairs to the next level, don’t we? I think it’s a different bit. I think it’s like takes you to a cabin. There’s some other viewing points as well. There’s some other viewing points as well, I think. Yeah, let’s go have a look. Was it that way? Not sure which way to go now. Some up this way. There’s a map there. Oh yeah. This is all the levels here. Look. So we’ve just come down this from the viewing platform. Get up to all these as platforms. So is that Oh, yeah. Food, drink. This is where we were going that toilets and things. Yeah. So let’s go there. So hopefully hopefully we can get a slurp. Lulu picked up pace to catch Lulu up them steps. Oh, like wa jeez. The air proper like not too bad a price up here. Burger is 16 Franks. Fish and chips 15. So that’s not bad. do toasties and all sorts of stuff. I think I’m going to have a burger. Okay. What are you having? I want you to have fish and chips. Still might have fish and chips. I’m not bigger bottle. Yeah, that one. They didn’t have any burgers. We had two fish and chips. and a couple of beers. Um, it’s quite expensive, but there’s loads to do. And when you’re not on like an off season like this, I think when Lan read online, if it’s busy, like in peak season, they try to limit you to like 2 and 1 half hours up here cuz there’s no limit when it’s quiet like this. So, if you can really get your money’s worth, have a some food. Keep going up to looking towers, different views. Take it all in. Make sure you get plenty of pictures. It’s really good, eh? The restaurant will be a treat. We’ve had so many treats on this holiday. It’s not just It’s not oneoff treat, is it? Lots of things. Even though this matter of price, it still ended up being another 50. So anyway, cheers. Don’t be flop everywhere. There’s our fish and chips. Looking good. Some nice to sauce. Since it’s a fishing cutlery Lula, I I’ll go and find it. Got no spanners. Can’t eat without spanners, can I? Spanners check. Here we go. The fish is done. Like these long fish gooons. And they are so tasty. And the tart sauce, probably the best tart sauce I’ve ever had. It’s bone. Yeah, it’s good. Let’s do some vinegar. I hate bang on chips. Wrong. You did say it was going to come in there, didn’t you? This is cool. Still on a mountain for one to two. Didn’t quite feel like it when we’re on Mber up the B. It just felt like we just walked out on a platform on a ski lift, didn’t we? And it this but this we walked across somewhere. We’re on a mountain, baby. Cold here, is it? Yes, it’s freezing. It’s not that cold, man. No, it’s not. So, obviously it won’t be No, it is beautiful. You can’t see much now though. No, when we arrived it looked an ideal place to see. Everyone started talking for beers, sandwiches. It looked really inviting on that bar. We’re like, let’s get back down to bar and then we come back down to can’t even see the ball. But there is a little indoor bit. So, I think we should go in there. [Music] So just in a bar on the second lift. Ly’s getting one of them snoods cuz that’s going to be awesome for on the ducks. And then uh just having a an Americano and a hot chocolate and it is white over in here now. You won’t want going up to top. Waste of money. Glad we seen it when we did. So looking forward to this coffee. Can have a lot of chocolate. Do you want cream? Oh, yes, please. Oh, perfect. Thank you, Missy. Really enjoyed that, Luly. Yeah. Nice to have a hot drink, weren’t you? Hey. Wow. You weren’t wrong with your weather forecast, Lul. Yeah, but we’ve been out all day. It’s been nice to go and chill in the van now, ain’t it? It’s proper white out now. Yeah, that’s right. We’ve been out all day. Do we need to come and get that bit of shopping? Do what? For tonight. We just need water and minced beef or something for later. Yeah, but then we’ll go in at a prop supermarket tomorrow. Awesome. See where the cable can’t even just see an outline. Well, you can see it better on the camera. I’m just looking at the screen at back camera. You can actually see it better than our eyes. Just having a walk through the streets of Shaman. It’s really nice. Some lovely restaurants and bars, some nice shops. Shame we got a little bit longer, Lou. But I don’t think it is supposed to be quite that lively and a bit touristy though in the evenings. But um it’s having the time unless you came back tonight, but we’re an hour away, aren’t we, to walk? It’s a long walk back. It is a good walk back. You can get the buses, plenty of bus routes, but we decided to have a enjoy the walk. Well, we didn’t get very far to the shop. We found a wine bar on the corner. So this lady said, “Do you want a glass? Buy the glass or by the bottle?” So, well, do you fancy a bottle or a beer? I say I’ll have a glass with you. So, all these you can choose from. The prices are on the bottles. Looks really nice. I like spoiled for choice. Trying to pick a nice red wine. This is really nice bar on the corner. All the places we visited, bars, shops, anything. Um, I will try my best for each under each vlog. I’ll put a pin post in the comments below of all the places we’ve been to and and everything else. And then I’ll put post on our social media like Facebook and stuff of prices and things like that. So, we’re had a right nice hour or so in there, haven’t we, Luly? That bar was lovely. That bar on the corner. Hang on, let me go and film it. If you come here, you’ve got to go and find this box. It’s where the railway track is. It’s on the corner just there. So, make sure you find it. The Italian chef is supposed to be unbelievable. The lasagna. The lasagna smelt incredible. We just sat there and had a few nibbles, bottle of wine, didn’t do it. Yeah. We don’t advertise any food that you can visibly see. It smells amazing. And if the toilet the kitchen you can see into there he’s cooking everything until you see you’ve got everything going on. It looked amazing. Don’t know if you’re doing outside catering for another restaurant. Or that’s just the way it is. But it smelt amazing. Little breads and casia breads. All was lovely, wasn’t it? Yeah. And it weren’t too bad price either, compared to the other bar I went to. This main street looks really nice. We’ve not walked down here yet, but there’s restaurants and bars. Oh, might have to have a walk in here. This snowboard shop or skateboard. They got skateboards as well. A lot. Eat more tacos. Bar restaurants. There’s so much. Oh man, I could spend a week down here just eating and drinking down this strip. Let’s have a look in here. Really? The shop is proper cool. I like them. Oh, nice. Are there sport shops of We’re meant to be going for food and then I seen the skate shop and I’m like, I’m in. seen a really nice jacket as well. It is proper cool. You’ve also seen green New Balance trailers at the botto. No, it’s nice. It’s not too big. We only needed food. Now we’re buying goats, trainers. Shops across the road. You came in here. I said no. I need them trainers in my life. Sorry. Yeah. Don’t say put the sticker on. That’ll be good. Oh, you got to stick it on, man. Get it on. Anywhere you like. Yes. Cheers, brother. Thank you very much. Right, let’s go get some bits from the spa shop. I’ll get my coat over my hair. Just nipped in this spa shop. They got no fresh meats whatsoever. And we really fancied making. Well, I did. Yeah. I want to make a nice Bologanese with a nice with a nice get dressed with Lan. Get get dressed with Lan. Oh my like a really rich tomato provinel red wine sauce. We’re not having a curry now. But then I’ve just come out because they didn’t have any trainers. I’ve just seen a T um Indian restaurant over there looks really nice. You fancy a curry. Curry fancy just chilling out in the van and having a bolognese, but we’ll have one. Let’s go have a look. Good passes. Buy it. What do you mean I made you buy it? I’m going to take it out of your car as soon as I go into It’s a nice car. I’ll buy it. Yeah, I’ll buy it and we won’t pay for it then. Yeah, but I ain’t got me bank card. But it could anyway. We decided against the curry cuz I bought a girl. Spent 200 odd quid on a coat. No, I like it. You must buy it, mate. I bought it. It’s a nice present. Is a nice present and I will wear it. I bought it. Treated you for a while. I’m modern. I like wear things. No, that is cool though. Proper like skate urban street wear. Hob’s nice. Yes, I like O stuff anyway. I can’t shop. I hate shopping. They like And that would be nice when we’re like on the boat like in Tori evening. It’s that sort of street vibe, is it? Right. Need to find another shop. No meat in there. We decided against a restaurant. Really nice bar shop. No. Yeah, but there’s no fresh meats or anything. We need some We need some minced meat. I’m going to try and find another shop. Let me go and Google Maps. Back in a minute. Oh, just got back to van. Definitely should have got the bus. That was a long horrible walk to be. It was that bad. Just ready. You know when you like it that bad, but now we’re back. I was ready to get back. It’s a good 50minute walk from this site. right into the center. Oh, right, we’re back. Let me get dried. So, we are now making Well, we Brent, I got everything out and sorted it all out. Make sure we had the stocking. I got things out. Brent’s cooking. I love it when your participation in cooking. I got it out, mate. I got it out. You say you get it out and I’ll cook it. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t mind doing that, but it’s like Yeah. You didn’t get me onion out though. Bottom drawer. The other one. It’s like being at home. I don’t know where anything is. Stock cubing the top as well. You might want one of them. What? Top of the drawer, doors, stock cube. I’m like this at home. I ain’t got a clue where that is. Check this out, guys. I have cooked a really nice spaghetti bolognese sauce with some sundried tomatoes, red wine, garlic, onions, and some salt and pepper. And reduced it all down. Plenty of red wine. Look how nice that is. No jars, all from scratch. And just used a tin of tomatoes as a base. Some stock. Lan is now just cooking some pasta up. Nothing wrong with the pasta. Cooking some pasta. You haven’t put enough pasta in there. I need some more. No, you have a complaint with my pasta. I got a box of pasta. And I have a baked bean pan. So, I’ had to snap it. Whoa. Mama me. M. What you doing to my pasta, man? You don’t snap spaghetti. I’m going to chop it up anyway. I put oil and salt in it for you. Why you buy your long spaghetti and you go and sm Oh man. If not, you get like them crusty bits stuck together like that and it’s disgusting. No, you put off in you let that soak up and then you bend it round. You don’t get That’s not spaghetti now, is it? You get cooked bits of little itty bitty tiny little baby tin spaghetti. Me saying I do help you cook. Oh yes, a bit of palmes. Luckily, I don’t know how that did that, but that stayed in one big plump. The fridge is really cold. That is so lucky. I expected that going just like boop parmesan everywhere. Put that in dinner in a minute. What an incredible end to an amazing day. I’ve cooked up an amazing spaghetti bolognese. Lan’s just cooked some pasta. Just topped it off with a bit of parmesan. Amazing. Had a good day, Lily. Oh, fantastic. Loved it. Awesome. So, we’re going to wrap this vlog up. See you. Chamonix Day Trip | Aiguille du Midi Adventure, Glacier Walk & Van Life Cooking | Campervan Europe Road Trip Vlog

In this episode of Urban Monkey Adventures, we take you on an unforgettable day in the heart of the French Alps – Chamonix-Mont-Blanc!

Our original plan was to hike between Glacier des Bossons and Glacier du Taconnaz, followed by a scenic ride on the famous Montenvers Cog Railway to visit the Mer de Glace. But, as always with van life and travel… plans change! At the very last minute, Mr Monkey decided we had to go up the Aiguille du Midi cable car – despite warnings of bad weather and possible white-out conditions at the summit.

🌫️ Was it the right decision? You’ll find out as we show the full experience, from the cable car journey to breathtaking (and somewhat blinding!) views at 3,842 metres high. We also share key tips on visiting Aiguille du Midi – including ticket info, weather advice, and the best times to go.

🏔️ Back in Chamonix town, we explore this lively alpine resort known for its skiing, mountaineering, and stunning scenery. We pop into local bars, cafes, and even a cool skate and snowboard shop where Luan finds the perfect new winter coat!

🍽️ To round off the day, Monkey rustles up an incredible meal in our Fiat Ducato Autotrail Expedition 68 campervan, parked up with views of Mont Blanc in the distance. It’s the perfect van life ending to a spontaneous and magical alpine day.
