🇩🇪 Cologne at Night 🌙 | Calm Midnight Walking Tour (Germany 4K)
Date: July 21 2025 I approx. 18 °C (64,4 °F) Welcome to my hometown Cologne, Germany! This midnight walking tour starts with a highlight: The Cologne cathedral. It’s a weekday’s night, so it’s quite empty even in the city centre. The cathedral was built from 1248 to 1880 but with a break of around 300 years between approx. 1530 and 1840 due to money issues. Looks at night even more impressive than during the day. If you’re interested in what the cathedral looks like inside, I’ve already made a video about it. I’ll link it here and below in the description. This is the start of the pedestrian zone: Hohe Strasse (High Street). The hanging white cloths are supposed to have a cooling effect on hot summer days. The Cologne Cathedral again. This square is called Roncalliplatz. A stage is currently being set up here for a Patti Smith concert. Advertisement for the neighboring Museum Ludwig, an art museum where, among other things, you can see this painting as an original. “via culturalis” is latin and means “Cultural Route” and marks a historical path through Cologne’s cultural heart. This is the backside of the Roman-Germanic-Museum but it’s still closed due to extensive restorations. Many pieces are stored in the Belgian House, where they can be viewed (Cäcilienstraße 46). And another time the cathedral. This part is the Cathedral Choir and was already finished in 1320. Museum Ludwig is one of the most important art museums in Europe. In addition to the largest Pop Art collection in Europe, the museum houses the third-largest Picasso collection in the world. Cologne Central Station Rat-alert! The Hohenzollern Bridge. With 1220 train journeys per day, it is the busiest railway bridge in Germany In 2008, the love lock trend from Italy spread here. According to Wikipedia, in 2015, there were estimated to be 500,000 of them. There have certainly been a few more since then. Lovers write their names or initials on the lock, attach it, and throw the keys into the Rhine. Probably several couples are no longer together and their locks are still hanging here… We’re entering now the Cologne district of Deutz on the right river bank. This is one of the most famous views of Cologne. Until WWII, cars and trams could also drive over the bridge. But this part of the bridge wasn’t rebuild after it’s destruction in the end of the war. That’s why old tram tracks lead to nowhere here. I was just asked if I have a lighter. But I don’t smoke. Ok, let’s return to the other side of the rhine again. This square is called “Heumarkt” (Hay market). The old town is directly adjacent here. Ok, this is for now. I’ll make another night walk on a weekend soon. I hope you liked this walking tour. Please don’t forget to hit the like button and subscribe to my channel. See you in the next video. Thanks for watching! Goodbye and “auf Wiedersehen”. Or as we say in Cologne: Tschö!

We begin at the historic Burgwall, right in front of thestunning Cologne Cathedral (German: Kölner Dom), pass through Roncalliplatz, enjoy stunning views from the Hohenzollern Bridge, and stroll along the scenic Rhine Boulevard in Deutz.
The tour continues across the Deutzer Bridge into the Old Town, through Heumarkt, and ends along the Riverside Promenade in the Martinsviertel.
A light rain towards the end creates beautiful reflections on the cobblestone streets of the Old Town — adding to the calm and atmospheric mood of this walk.
🎧 Best enjoyed with headphones for the full ambient night sound experience.
