Hvar, Croatia | 7 Essential Tips for Visiting One of the World’s Most Beautiful Islands

Hi everyone, welcome back to the channel. Are you ready for an island getaway? Well, this one ranks within the top 10 most beautiful islands in the world. Picture yourself exploring hidden coes, dining amongst ancient architecture, and surrounded by beautiful turquoise waters. Well, that was our experience during our overnight stay on the wonderful island of Havar. Havar is known for its sailing, beach hopping, good food, and the lively night life of Havar Town. In fact, you may even get a sneak peek of the celebrities that frequent the high-end Spa Hotel resort and sail by in their yachts. So, there’s so much to do in Havar, we easily could have spent a week there. So, in this video, what we’d like to do is share seven tips that will help you get the most out of your stay there. So, let’s get started. We’re Tanya and Martin. We travel the world going to all the places we’ve always dreamed of visiting. We hope our adventures will inspire yours. Havar is an island in the Adriatic Sea located off the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. It’s one of Croatia’s sunniest islands. Havar Town is a historic coastal town on the southern shore of the island. Known for its Venetian architecture and vibrant culture. Originally settled by the Yrianss, an ancient group of tribes, it was later shaped by Greek, Roman, and Venetian influences, and became an important Adriatic naval base for the Venetians. Havar has a very comfortable weather with temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 in the shoulder seasons and between 80 and 90 in the summer months of July and August. There are actually many ways of getting to Avar from a variety of cities, but the easiest way is to take a ferry or catamaran from Split. A catamaran or passenger ferry will get you there in about an hour. If you have a vehicle, you need to take a vehicle ferry, which will take about 2 hours, and it takes you to the port of Starrad. We’ll put a link for the ferry schedule in the description. For July, tickets seem to run €8 all the way up to €25. One way, tickets can sell out fast during the high season, so please book your ferry tickets in advance. Booking them online at least the day before is suggested. There are also plenty of day trips from Split if you don’t have a lot of time. And catamarans are also available from Dravnik during the high season, taking about 3 and a half to four hours. Havar town’s probably the best place to stay, uh, especially if you’re interested in the night life. Uh if you want things a little more quiet and a little more cost-effective, Star Grod is a great place to go to. Uh Yelsa and Vibosa are also good choices. Hotels in and around Havar Town are around $200 per night and they go all the way up to $500 per night for the high-end hotels. There are even the spa resort hotels that cost you $600 or more per night. You can get some places just outside of town though for under $100 per night. Going to Avar for a day is going to be very rushed, so it’s better to spend at least one night there. Three nights will give you time to explore a town and relax on the beaches and also visit the Pacini Islands. If you want to explore the whole island, you’re going to need four to five nights. You’ll most likely want to rent a scooter or a car or hire a local driver to give you a tour. There’s plenty to do on the island. There’s a Spanish fortress up on the hill. It’s an easy 20minute walk up a winding path through beautiful Mediterranean gardens. And once you reach the top, you have stunning views of the Hava Harbor and the Palenni Islands. You can visit the Cathedral of St. Steven and the old square. Visit the Benedicting Monastery. It’s the only place in the world where the nuns still make and sell lace made from agave fibers. It’s a long, arduous process, and the pieces sell for thousands of euros. You can visit the Arsenal, home of one of the oldest public theaters in Europe, dating to 1612. Havar was also a literary and theatrical center during the Renaissance, producing well-known Croatian poets and playwrights. You can even check out this guy, Ivan Vuettic, whose work helped lay the foundation for modern forensic science. In 1891, Vuchetic created the first criminal record based on fingerprinting. That same year, he solved a murder case using fingerprint evidence, the first ever solved using fingerprints. There’s also the Vchetic Museum of Mystery right here in Havar Town. The Boardwalk Waterfront Prominade is a popular area for strolling, dining, shopping, and enjoying harbor views with yachts and cafes lining the path. It’s known for its lively atmosphere and activity both day and night. You can rent a boat or take a tour of the Pacini Islands for hidden coes and beach clubs. Or you can also take a tour to the Blue Caves. There are plenty of rental shops where you can rent anything water related like kayaks, paddle boards or snorkeling gear. You can also explore beaches like Poni Dal, Milner and Duba Vita. You can visit the lavender farms, especially in June or July, or visit a winery, all located in the Starrad agricultural plane, a UNESCO heritage site. There’s a variety of food and drink options on the island, but I strongly suggest that you try some of the local cuisine while you’re there, like Gada. It’s a fish stew. There’s pashtiada, which is a Croatian beef stew served with or pasta, usually made for weddings and special occasions. Pekka is a slowcooked meat or octopus under a bell, fish in parchment paper or fish in a bag, grilled calamari and lavender honey desserts, and you must try the local wines that are made right there on the island. We tried both and they were delicious. You have Bogdania and Plavic Mali. Havar is one of Croatia’s most expensive islands. If you go during peak season, July and August, it’s going to be the most expensive. The shoulder seasons of May and June and September and October have better rates. Uh they’re also less crowds and there’s still very good weather. You can also eat at the Canobas. They’re taverns. uh prices are a better value there and you can also uh stay like I was saying earlier in Starigrad or Yelsa where you can get accommodations easily for less than $100 a night. Now taxis are pricey so you can use the local buses and if you’re going to travel around the island quite a bit then you can also rent a scooter. So, you’ll want to bring lightweight clothing, good walking shoes or sandals, uh sunscreen, a hat, and uh water shoes because quite a few of the beaches are rocky. Um and you can bring snorkeling gear, but you can also, you know, rent it there. They have lots of rental shops for all kinds of water gear gear. Havar Town has a bit of a party reputation, especially in the summer months, but you know, you can still find a quiet spot. You can still have a romantic dinner or find a romantic, you know, outing somewhere. Um, especially, you know, in the shoulder season. We were there in May, so partying hadn’t quite started yet. Uh, but if you want the party scene, best time is June, July, and August. So, thanks for watching and uh please like, share, and subscribe because it really helps the channel. Uh and uh let let us know in the comments uh what your favorite Croatian island is. And until next time, we’ll see you. See you in the next video.
