Osnabrück Founded by Charlemagne in around 785, Osnabrück became a bishopric by around 800 and gained city status in 1171. It later joined the Hanseatic League, noted for its Osnaburg linen trade
The city is globally known as the site where the Peace of Westphalia was concluded in 1648, ending the Thirty Years’ War. The treaties were signed in the historic Town Hall, giving Osnabrück its title Friedensstadt (“City of Peace”)
