The Best Underrated Day Trip from Tokyo (Narita & Sawara)

when you hear Narita you most likely associated with Narita airport however Nita originally developed as a temple town centered around Nita Shinoi Temple even today just one stop on the local train from the airport you can step into a town with historical streets and national charm it’s a great day destination from Tokyo or a perfect stop if you have extra time at night airport today I’d like to show you the city of Narita and Sawara so you can find out what you can enjoy near Narita airport romite airport is just one stop on either the Kes mainline or a J locala train something you might want to be careful is access express and airport expresses like night express and case skylliner do not stop here at night station and in case you go back to night airport make sure not to go to this Higashin station because you have to walk so long underground there’s a shadow bus too but it’s much easier just to take the train to the airport if you are coming from Tokyo you have two options of taking KSA mainline or J local train the total travel time is about 1 hour and 10 to 20 minutes if you are in a hurry you could take an airport express to United Airport and then backtrack but considering the transport time there isn’t much difference in travel time i arrive at the Narita station in Nita city and it’s only one station and 7 minutes from NA airport terminal 2 building and now let’s go to the old town of Narita city narita is a town where you can easily plan your visit since everything is within walking distance from the station even if you have limited time you can explore and return with the peace of mind ja station and K nita station session are located across the street from each other and from there a long temple approach street leads to nasan shin temple there are lots of shops and restaurants along the street that you can enjoy is a famous eel shop i see lots of people outside along the way to Shinsho Temple I got my ticket for this EU restaurant and then took a walk to the Shino Temple as it seems there’s a long waiting time i arrived at Nasan Shino Temple every year about 3 million people visit here for the hats which is the first shrine visit of the year for Japanese [Music] people narita was a popular pilgrimage site during the Edo period kabuki actor Ichika Danuro was developed followers of Naidasan Hudomo a Buddhist dietary known as the immovable wisdom king who is believed to offer protection and remove obstacles icho Danulo played a hu on stage of Kabuki and over time people began believing that visiting Naidasan could help their wish come true as a result the night of pilgrimage became popular among people in Edom which is a kind Tokyo above here so let’s see [Music] behind the temple there’s a Naidasan park a great place to take a peaceful walk surround sounded by greenery [Music] now it’s time to eat at the EU restaurant i picked a store called Kawato Toyo which seems most popular in the Narita area as more visitors came to Narita more shops opened along the temple approach during this time the number of the EU restaurant which is now a specialty of Narita also increased this is Surugaya another e restaurant that are popular eel called unagi in Japanese is a meal to eat on special occasion and not something people eat daily in Japan but it’s a super popular hoods for its soft texture taste and appreciated other food gives you energy so you purchase a ticket and wait here again you can choose a seat type and I chose a fast forward seat with a hood heater after 20 30 minutes wait finally arrived it takes time to cook so it’s better to have some advance of time so this is JL Narita station as I had some extra time I decided to visit Savara as well savara has a similar historic townscape to Narita but with an even quieter countryside atmosphere from Nita station it’s about 30 minutes train ride on J Narita line in case you visit from the airport you may want to be aware of the time as the train only lands every 1 hour at the Sal station you can get a map at the Savis information center in Sav you can also explore on the hood from the train station and in front of that there’s a little street keep going this street and in about 5 minutes there will be a old town so along the river you’ll see historic merchant buildings sa thrives through river trade with Edo which is a modern day of Tokyo becoming a key logistic hub for rice soy sauce and sake and such during the ill period the ton river originally flowed into Tokyo Bay however due to the frequent flooding the river was diluted to the flowing directly to the Pacific Ocean via Chosi around that time river boat was important method of logistics to carry heavy materials as a result Savala which is located near the river’s mouth near Chosi became an important trade hub one of Sara’s most famous merchants was Tarataka Inino the man famous for making the Japan’s first accurate national map like Narita Sara retained its edopier townscape so if you have some extra time it’s worth stopping by since I visit on weekday many shops were closed on Sara and the town was very quiet it might not be the busy place you can enjoy lots of shopping and street foods but it’s a perfect place to take a stroll stop by a coffee shop and enjoy a slow relaxing [Music] day i dropped by this local coffee shop the coffee was very good and relaxing [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] looks like this is a sign of the kind of old American tobacco land so I had a great visit to Nita and Saw despite being close to the airport and serving as a Japan’s gateway Nita and Saw offers a glimpse into a country’s most traditional and rustic site if you are looking for something a little different for your day trip from Tokyo or if you have some time at the airport and want to see an authentic Japanese townscape it might be a good idea to take a short trip to explore Narita and Saw thank you for watching have a great trip to Japan have a 2. Japan visitors usually overlook Narita town and its surroundings, but it's never a bad idea to add it to your itinerary if you have an early flight to catch the following day.
