GERAKINI HALKIDIKI Walking Adventure!
Good morning. We’ve walked down to Yerakini or
Gerakini or however else you want to pronounce it. I’m not actually sure which way it is. So we’re
standing in what is the car park at the moment. Um this is the bus stop. Yeah, they’re the same
everywhere, aren’t they? Really, let’s be honest. And uh we’re going to the supermarket, aren’t we?
Need some suntan lotion, sunscreen, whatever. Yes.
And some Haribo. And we even do. And mommy is looking resplendant
and extremely neon in her little outfit. I didn’t want you to be able to lose me.
No. And we need to be seen on the road. Don’t you for these car drivers, man, there’s something
else. So, we’re going to have a walk further down now, aren’t we? Going to get another drink and
we’re going to go in the supermarket because we need to add to our Haribo collection to take home.
We do. Everywhere we go, we take local Haribo. Yeah. And I’ve noticed here
they’ve got frog shaped ones and they’re the same colour as my shirt,
funnily enough. So they are indeed. Yeah. Going to get some of those. They
are indeed. So as you can tell, this isn’t a very big place. It’s uh decidedly small.
It’s got a lovely beach. Um we walked down there a few times.
Yeah, that’s where the disabled access is down there.
Really good. Yeah. They have a um accessible ramp thing on the sand. And then they’ve got
floaty things that people with mobility issues can sit in to go in the sea.
Yeah. Yeah. It’s brilliant. Which is astounding really for the
size of the place because Yeah. You know, you can go to many other more developed
tourist areas. There’ll be nothing like that. No. And to be honest, I don’t think this has even
got a horse. So, it can’t be a one-horse town. No.
It’s really, really small. That’s right. Yeah. So, uh, a lot of the houses are really picturesque,
really got, uh, some growth going on with spinal and stuff like that. It’s a bit windier today,
which is nice, actually, because it’s, uh, it’s quite cool to walk around in. There’s a car
coming. You’re going to get run over. There we go. There’s a car coming.
Like every tiny place in the planet, it’s got loads of cars. More cars than people.
Everybody’s trying to drive into the supermarket because it’s hot. But here we are. Can
anyone pronounce that? I can’t. Um, but we’re going to walk in now and uh buy some
stuff and see what we can find. Back in a moment. So, we’re trying to decide which
sunscreen to buy. One with carrots in. Carrot. A one that says carrotish on
the bottle. Um, which one is the best? Do we want to look like carrots? Carroty one.
It’s probably got carrots in it. It’s bound to have carrots. Intense bronze. That’s only
factor six. I might be a Chrisp. No. No. It does have a carrot.
We look like triple fried chips if you put No, we don’t want that. So, you have to
be careful because you’re an English rose. You don’t want around the edges, do we?
I’m just all wet at the minute. [Music] Lots of fresh fruit and veg
for considering such a small supermarket and these uh things. Well,
they cakes around here. Unbelievable. All kinds of cooked meats and things here. These vacuum packed olives. Pretty impressive. [Music] Some tomatoes there. Mind. Wow. It
doesn’t get much fresher than this. Lovely. I don’t think we got one.
We have found Bugatsa. Oh, sorry.
There is right there. Okay. Yeah.
Do you want Bugatsa? Sure. Okay. You’re very red in your face. Am I?
Yeah. I’m quite hot.
You’re having a stroke. I don’t know.
Okay. Good to know. Good to know. Which
one should we get? The one on the left and the one on the right. The
one on the right. Bigger. I want to go for that one.
Okay. If you’re sure. Hello. And may have bugatsa. Yeah. One, please.
Yeah. All sorts of coffee machine be going on here. Wow. Everything is cheap as cups. Really is.
Do you want coffee? Uh, no. We have Bugatsa and our iced tea.
Okay. So, Bugatsa, suntan lotion, um, iced tea and haribo
to make up for the ones you ate last night. Oh, I was a little bit the worst for wear drinking
and needed the sugar. Thank you. But anyway, we’ve restocked and uh we’re going to try and have
solid bugatsa this time instead of the liquified version. We had it last week. That wasn’t our
fault. We weren’t going to be that fault. But she put it in a nice little bag.
Nice little bag. She’s put cinnamon on it.
We have declined the sugar. Yes, we did decline the sugar. So, it’s just as
busy car-wise as it was the other day. I thought it might be a bit quieter with it being Sunday,
but I guess the only difference is there’s no lorries or or wagons flying up and down like there
was the other No deliveries. No deliveries. So, we’re going to have a little walk along.
Don’t fall off. I’ll try to kill myself on the curb
here. That’s it. Always elegant. It’s busier at this end cuz this is
where the proper supermarket is. And yeah, this is a nice little cafe here.
Lovely cafe. Yeah, we’ve had the iced coffee there before. It’s
very, very nice. Yeah. And another one over that side. Dimmitri’s handmade gold. Oo,
lovely. We like the sound of that. um after having spent many years in the jewelry business. Um no
thank you. Don’t want to do that anymore. But uh I quite like this little place. It’s uh
it’s quirky. People in the shop are lovely. Um no issues there, but it’s just a sheer volume
vehicles that you can’t avoid. You really can’t. talk back to us. You should walk in front, you
know, because it looks like you’re in a trench. I don’t
You should walk in front cuz it looks like you’re in a trench.
Oh, no. It’s okay. We’re going to go eat a bugatsa now, aren’t we? We’re going to try.
We’re going to find somewhere to sit down and uh give it a go. Looks lovely. And we’ll
walk along the prom later on. We’ll see you in a minute. So, we found somewhere to sit
under a tree. Um looking out at the view over the sea. That rhymes. didn’t mean to. Mhm.
Um, and we’re going to try our lemon tea and elbow and see what they’re like, aren’t we?
We’ll turn the camera around in a bit and show you the view. But right now, there’s
a bit in front of us. So, not so pretty, but practical, useful, and that’s okay.
That lemon tea is actually quite nice. What was it? €1.20 or something.
Something very cheap. Yeah, it tastes like it’s full of sugar, which at
the moment that would be okay cuz we’re going to need the energy to get back in the uh the mid
afternoon heat. It’s uh it’s 20 1 now on Sunday because we never learn. Because we never learn.
I told you we’re amateurs and we we never really get out in time, but uh we’re here and luckily
there there’s a little bit of a breeze. It’s not quite so hot as it’s been and the breeze has
taken care of that little bit. So that’s okay. And we got our up and we’re going to try and
eat it while it’s still solid. To be fair to us, it was really overcast this morning and it was
quite cool and breezy. So we thought it would be okay to come out late.
Yeah, it’s gotten hot again.
It has. That’s all right. Oh, the Bugatsa is warm. Warm.
It’s meant to be warm. It’s not just warm because we’ve walked for
miles with it in a bag. So, what I believe it is is some sort of custardy thing with
little pastry around it and cinnamon on it. It comes about yay big and then she offers
to cut it. Yay big. She offers to cut it into squares for you which is very nice. And then
very good on sizes. And then she offers both cinnamon and sugar. We decline
the sugar this time. Is it good? It tastes exactly like cooked past with
cinnamon on it. It’s a national delicacy, but that’s okay. It’s quite nice. It’s sweet.
Um, it’s warm. And it’s going to sound odd this, but it would be nice with custard on the
thing. Or cream or something. But yeah, I could I could eat this. Not a problem. You want custard with custard
on? That’s double custard. Mhm.
It’s very custardy. Anyway, it’s very nice. One year a 55. While
we’re doing this, show you the view. [Music] We walked about 200 y out of along the
beach. And as you can see, it’s pretty sparsely occupied. Um, you’ve definitely got plenty of
space between you. There’s no doubt about that until you get near the town where the density
of people is much greater because obviously you’ve got your bars and your restaurants all
down there. But it’s a fairly clear day. You can see the other peninsula quite clearly. And
uh what a way to spend a Sunday afternoon, eh? Beautiful.
Fantastic. So this end down here is where I
think German uh Eastern European tourists come here and they rent apartments.
But then and a lot of local people come here to use the beach at the weekend.
Yeah. And if you look the other way
where those canopied beds are Yeah.
That’s the other end of the market. that’s the oh what’s it called? IKOS
IKOS. Yes. Yes. Ikos . We will show you that a little bit later on. It’s
just around the corner from where we are now. It’s it’s quite expensive.
It’s very expensive. Luxurious.
They have a fleet of Tesla uh complimentary vehicles for you to use um
included in your hotel price. Yeah. Included in the price. That’ll give you an
idea of how much this thing costs. I mean it’s ridiculous money, but
you know what? No, if you want luxury. Absolutely.
Absolutely not. Not not our end of the market, I’m afraid.
Unfortunately not. No.
We did try to walk through it last time we were here
because most hotels that are on a beach, you can walk through them, get
a drink in their bar, whatever. Yeah.
But the security guard came out and stopped us on the sand and said,
“Oh, you’re not staying here. You can’t come in.” We got chased. Marion had to hold me back. I
was going to go for him, but she pulled me away. He was really nice about it. Bless him, but he
just said, “No, you can’t even come in.” cuz we thought we’d just cut through to the road and they
said, “No, you have to walk around. Keep walking.” He wasn’t much. He was only about 30 and 6′
10 and bit like Arnie Schwarzenegger, but I would have had a go. Good job you pulled me off.
Yes. Yes. Yeah. So, this is the start of the IKOS hotel. It’s as far as we can go before
they release the dogs to chase us off. Um, lots of beds, no people. I wonder what that says,
but there you will. I’m not jealous. Honest. So, that’s where the security lad sits
at this end. He’s either on a break or he’s stealth hiding in those bushes.
Waiting to pounce when I make a move. Mhm. Well, we’re going to swerve this and uh go up
onto the road and come back down after this. [Music]
