Best Things To Do in Lisbon Portugal 2025 4K

What’s going on everybody? This is Island Hopper
TV and today we’re coming to you with the best things to do in Lisbon, Portugal. This is a
city where you’ll find old world charm and modern conveniences. This is a Lisbon travel
guide designed for people who plan to stay for 3 to 5 days. There will be timestamps below in the
description so you can bounce around from location to location. There is over 20 things to do. First
up, here we are, the Heronomos Monastery located along the Belem waterfront. Construction began in
1501 and was completed 100 years later. This is where the monks of the military religious order of
Christ provided assistance to seafares in transit. Staying here along the Balem waterfront, here we
are at the Balem Tower, also known as the Tower of St. Vincent. This is actually where seafarers
would come and go, serving as a ceremonial gateway for Portugal. As you know, Portuguese
seafarers were very famous in the 14 and 1500s with Portuguese influence being all around Asia
into Brazil and around the world. Portugal was one of the most prominent seafaring countries
in the world for several hundred years. Now, here we are in the Alama district. This is one of
the most famous neighborhoods in all of Lisboa. In this area, you’ll find the classic trams. You’ll
also get a castle, which we’ll be showing you all of that. But this is a very famous old historic
area along the waterfront. And the most famous structure here is the National Pantheon. You can
see that up on top of the hill. It’s got a white dome. Also a road called Rua Dos Romeios. Now here
we are at the Convent of Carmo. This is actually an archaeological museum, formerly a Catholic
convent. And right next door is the Santa Justa lift, which is an elevator that takes you up and gives
you great views overlooking Alfama. So come on out here and check out the convent and the lift and
get great views and some historical information. And the entrance fee is €7, so not too bad in
terms of price. Now, while you’re in Alfama, you’re probably going to have an appetite. This
is one of my favorite areas to get food because there’s so many different restaurant options up
and down the Alfama district that you can find here. They have a famous pastry called an egg
tart. Street vendors sell roasted nuts. Also, plenty of seafood. Seafood is a very famous
cuisine here in this area of Lisbon. Also, you will see there’s lots of lamb or mutton. There’s
plenty of different options of meat, including chreso. Let’s not forget about the croquettes. And
then you have a traditional sandwich here called a bolo de kaku served on a flatbread. Then you have
awesome tasting dessert like these malasadas like a donut from Portugal. Very delicious. You got to
try one of these in the morning. And then here’s a look at just a traditional breakfast with the
coffee and the pastries. And now we have the St. Jorge Castle. This is a Moorish style castle
and fortress built in the 11th century by the Moors. Here you’ll walk along the castle walls,
go up to the tower and get great views. You also have colorful peacocks that are roaming around
the actual castle grounds. And then you do have these trams that go all around Alma and different
parts of Lisbon. But you can get the 24-hour pass or the Lisboa card, which includes trams and
other forms of public transport. And then you have these finular cards like the Bea Lift. This
is really cool for getting up a high mountain, also included in the Lisbon Pass. And you can
purchase the Navagante card at a metro station for €7, which is definitely a great value if
you plan to ride public transportation. Now, here we are at the Christ the King statue. It’s
a shrine overlooking the city. The statue is 28 m tall. That’s about 92 feet. It’s on a pedestal and
it’s a popular tourist attraction. You get great views from up here overlooking the waterfront as
well. It is located in the Almada district. Now, here we are at the 25th of April Bridge.
There are a few bridges that cross including the Vasco de Gama. We’ll be talking about
that a little later on, but these bridges going over the water kind of remind people of San
Francisco Bay Area. And Lisbon does sit in an all naturatural harbor where the Tus River flows into
the Atlantic Ocean. It’s kind of like an estuary, which is why you have these big bridges. And this
here is a look at the biggest bridge. This is the Vasco de Gama going all the way across this
estuary. Big, beautiful bridge spanning 17 km. That’s about 10.7 mi. It is the longest bridge
in Europe. And then for those of you looking for a beach around Lisbon, check out Carcavllos.
This is about 12 km away from Whis. This is about 12 km to the west of Lisbon. So, not too
far of a drive. And then in the evening time, you can hang out along the waterfront here at
the commercial square. Get a nice sunset and get a real good feel of the city. By the way, if you
guys are enjoying this video so far and you want more travel guides, subscribe to Island Hopper
TV as we continue to show you around Lisbon. Now, here we are at Augusta Road. This is one of the
main roads. Lots of cafes and shopping and really a good city center area for just walking and
strolling and it connects with the commercial square. So perfect. Right now here we are at
the Lisbon Cathedral and it does have a medieval past where Romans and Arabs have also been here
building on this exact site. Many people say this is one of the worthwhile and highly recommended
sites in all of Lisbon. And the ticket cost about €5. Here we are at the Monument of Discoveries,
a tribute to all of Portugal’s seafaring past. It was originally built in 1940 and made permanent
in 1960 to mark the 500 years since Henry the Navigator’s death. And on the monument, you will
find navigators like Vasco De Gama and Ferdinand Mellin. And another town we have here is Kasis,
which is another town along the waterfront with beaches. And it’s famous for the Portuguese royal
family, having a residence here. And by the way, if you plan to come out here to Spain or Portugal,
we’ll put some of our links to Barcelona, Madrid, and other island destinations in this region.
Highly recommend those. So, check the links down below. Now, here we are at the Algarve. The
Algarve is south of Lisbon. It’s facing towards the Straits of Gibralar direction, but it’s not
quite all the way down there. Beautiful beaches. They have dramatic coastline. People come down
here and camp and just chill, do some surfing. Really a nice area of southern Portugal. You can
get down here by car or bus. A lot of people just come down here by train. It’s about 280 km away.
That’s 170 mi. So, it is a little bit of a trek, but definitely worth it. But now what we’re going
to do is we’re actually going to check out some of my favorite areas in all of the Lisbon area.
This one here is Sintra. This is to the northwest of Lisbon. It’s about an hour and a half away
depending on how you get here by train or car, but really a beautiful town with lots of castles.
Probably some of the most famous sites you’ve seen before arrival like this one here called the
Moorish Castle. So really beautiful castles here. By the way, I offer travel coaching where I help
you plan your itinerary. You guys can actually book a one-on-one with me by clicking the link
down below. One-on-one coaching to help you plan all of your vacations, whether it be Lisbon or
something else. I’ve also written an ebook for $20 where you can learn how to create your own travel
YouTube brand. You might want to check that out as well on Patreon. And while out in Sintra, definitely
check out the Pena Castle. Absolutely beautiful. It’s got that yellow and red color paint. Really
symbolic of this particular castle. Not many castles in Europe have this kind of appeal like
Pena Castle. For a full ticket price to the palace and park, it’s about €20. If you just want to
do the park only, that’s €10. I would recommend purchasing online in advance because it can get
crowded, especially during peak season. And then there’s another palace out here called the Palace
of Monzerat. You may want to check this one out. And then they have Quinta da Reguleira. This is
a beautiful garden type property. They have this like stairways that walk down into the depth
of the well. They have like caves here. This is probably one of my favorites in all of Lisbon
area. I highly recommend going here. It has everything you could possibly want from a castle.
These stairs are just so incredible. Made of all rock. It’s kind of difficult to get down, so keep
that in mind. Now, here we are at the aquarium. This is a modern site here in Lisbon. And plenty
of animals to check out here, including sharks, penguins, and much more. Adults between 13 and
64 are €25. Children 3 and 12 are 15o. Now, this one’s for all you sports fans. If you love
football, also known as soccer, you can check out some football games here all across Lisbon
and Portugal. If you guys are fans of Ronaldo, you know he plays for the Portugal national
team. But checking out a game while in town, what an experience. The best time of year is
spring or fall for a game. Now, here we are at the Museum of Tiles. So, if you go around Portugal,
you’ll notice they put tiles on the side of the buildings. And here you can learn all about the
mosaics and tiles of Portugal. Then we’re at the Maat Museum, which is actually an art museum.
Another great museum to explore while you’re in Lisbon, also including architecture. Now, here
we are at the LX Factory, which is a historical industrial complex that now has a wide variety
of art retailers and unique restaurants. In this area, you’ll see the Lisbon Aqueduct. I’m always
impressed by these aqueducts, how they do it, but that’s what this structure is. You’ll see around
the area of Lisbon. It was built between 1731 and 1799. And now for some general facts about Lisbon.
So it is the largest city here in Portugal located on the western side of the Iberian Peninsula at
the mouth of the Tagus River. If you go a little further south, you will see North Africa across
the straits of Gibralar and that’s Morocco. The population here in Lisbon is around 2.9 million
in the metro area. It is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe. It’s got a history that was
influenced by the Romans, the Visigoths, and the Moors. Also, it was rebuilt in 1757 after the 1755
earthquake. Now, something also important to know, as I pointed out, the explorers of the New World
were oftent times based here in Portugal, Vasco De Gama. They name a bridge after him, but there
was several other Portuguese explorers. And like I said, they would base right out of here in Lisboa.
Lisbon is known as Europe’s tech hub, so take that into consideration. A lot of digital nomads choose
to live here. It’s relatively affordable compared to most places in Europe. Nice weather as well.
It’s a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and then warm, dry summers. And as far
as safety goes, I’d say it’s a really safe place, but you do have to watch out for pickpocketing
and some of that nonviolent crime. There’s not going to be a lot of violent crime in Lisbon.
It’s just that petty theft. So, always be aware of your surroundings and your belongings when
you’re sitting down to eat because pickpocketing, as with many parts of Europe, is quite common. And
just a friendly reminder, if you guys are looking for one-on-one travel coaching from me who’ve been
