Let’s discover Agios Nikolaos, the chic and charming coastal town on the Greek Island of Crete.
You begin this wonderful day with a morning stroll around the town’s crown jewel, Lake Voulismeni.
This lovely lagoon was once a freshwater lake, small yet deep. But in 1907, the French dug a little channel to connect the ancient lake to the Aegean Sea.
Then in the modern port beyond, you see yachts, fishing boats, and the occasional cruise ship dock here.
Next, you walk to the main plateia, Elfetherios Venizelos Square, and wander along the scenic pedestrian zone, 28th October Street.
Intriguing shops invite you to shop and browse traditional Cretan foods, arts, and crafts. Which also reminds you to visit the Folk Art Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos tomorrow.
Just a few more steps until the majestic Mirabello Bay opens before you.
Several Agios Nikolaos, Crete beaches have received the global Blue Flag award of excellence, All are well organized to make the most of crystal-clear waters and picturesque views.
Later, after enjoying the clean pebbled and sandy beaches and calm protected sea, you retrace your path into town, to the happy tune of laughter and conversation.
The setting sun shades the sky from vivid blues to pastel hues, Myriad lights sparkle and shine in the indigo depths of Lake Voulismeni.
