Day 07 Cycling France, Bordeaux to Sète via Canal de Garonne & Canal du Midi

[Music] update video Jodie this is Jodie at 7:30 in the morning looking as pretty as she does at 8:00 at night I just riding her bike all day we’re in front of the Capitol Capo how did how how would you pronounce that I don’t know we’re not exactly sure what that building this SP except it’s maybe the the like like a state capital maybe I don’t know we’re just tour capital of the something region back in the day back in the day this was a capital something so we’re in this uh start starts to know it’s all you need to know um that’s from France but um we’re in this like square area and uh bunch of restaurants whole bunch of outdoor seating and they have sparkly things hanging from the sky so the world rugby tournament are going to be happening um next week and I said in a different video we actually moved our bike tour up a week because it’s going to be chaos in uh in uh Bordeaux tulas too and Perez so if looks like they’re setting up for a a concert day Rock so we saw a poster for a rock concert and it said concert day Rock I kind of went to steal it but Jody didn’t tell me about till afterwards so we’re in too and we’re leaving today and we’re heading to I would tell you where we’re heading but jod has not taken out the intinerary today as of yet Oh I thought you had it no you’re in charge of itineraries so anyhow um we were here last night just packed with people the videos I was shooting yesterday was like after like 90% of the people had left and so the restaurants don’t open till 7:00 p.m. here in France most of them and so they have like their happy hour from 5:00 to 7:00 so people get off their jobs they come and they sit and drink for 2 hours and then they eat so the restaurants too I noticed it’s kind of like you go to a restaurant you find a table and then you sit and then that’s like your table for the whole evening like it’s not like people come and pretty much um and just stay so where are we going today Jodie gou gardo Gard we are going to gardo 43 km so that’s where we’re going it’s out out in the woods I guess so we need to stop at a grocery store before we get there and get ourselves like deli sandwiches or something for dinner tonight so I kind of like it when we stay in places like this so we can walk around in the evening and check out things um but even if we’re out in the middle of nowhere there’s usually things to walk around like little Villages there’s interesting things to walk around look at so all right they’re setting up barricades and getting ready for the big party this this weekend so we’re going to take off so we decided if we do another bike tour we’re going to like after like the fifth or sixth day we’re going to do a rest day and spend 2 days somewhere let our legs recover so this would have been a good spot probably to spend two days um or even the town we were at last night would have been a good spot have to stay for 2 days all right so today is Friday is this DayDay is day seven it’s day seven of our bike riding all right okay we’re still in tulo France and uh we’re at this uh Green Space and I think that um I think this thing is the world rugby something or another the rugby is a big deal here and the rur rugby thing is like next week I mentioned that I think these are the countries that are part of it Portugal something Romania and then you have your uh nambia Italy Ireland Samo uh I think it’s called Samo uh Japan newon New Zealand Georgia I way from United States Georgia how about that Conga Australia EUR gray Euro gray EUR however uh Fiji uh I oh I can’t see that One S with my eyes I can’t see none of those chilly and then uh they come around the ready Argentina and then you have this mean looking rugby guy ready the play rugby you have this lady whoa excuse me amican something just dropped on my head I don’t know if it was bird poop or what I look then it looks like a statue of George Washington over there mongod a for 1877 got this diseo thing so this uh Green Space is kind of like in the middle of too I see a lot of people sitting and reading they have uh things that you can read uh tell us about things that ramp there goes up and over to another Green Space where we were just at we walked up and over the thing there the ramp some guy with a samurai sword over there to the right so I got stop I think uh I think a bird pooped on my head stop over here and look might to Jord got pooped on yesterday no it must have been a leaf or something thank goodness so I was running along something hit me in the head it’s right straight back on top of the head I’ve lost Jodie oh there she is over there um so Paris a lot of history is gruesome with the guillotine and people losing their heads over things and French Revolution and other interesting historical tidbits uh I wonder if that dog has had his shots or her shots and uh same thing they look very angry oh blade looks like we got a looks like we got an event going on over there today you know how hard it is for jod to go through these uh flea markets and different things without being able to buy anything is that right Jody what it’s quite hard for you to go through these flea markets and open air shops without being able to buy a bunch of stuff we don’t need right right all right so we’re just riding around two this morning as uh as a riding 40 mil day isn’t enough we ride around the towns to add another 5 10 miles to our rides but this is pretty casual and uh today my legs aren’t hurting really but my butt still hurts um so I think my legs are getting finally in shape I thought I was I thought my legs were in shape before we left for this ride but apparently not but they are now so all right I’m going to cut this video off so I can ride around so there’s a bunch of house boats along here along the canal do MIDI making my video on jod screen war war you are out of track since 30 m the app thinks I’m out of track so there’s some type of Harbor type thing some Modern buildings here we’re about 10 km from tuse that happy ding means that we are no longer screwing up and um so these trees we’re um let me think so we’re 350 km into our bike ride total uh so that’s 120 plus another now wait a minute that’s uh 180 about 210 or 220 miles so far we’ve ridden over 6 days today’s day seven and really it doesn’t quite seem like we’ gone that far there’s been stretches where the canal is kind of boring but it’s not for long half hour 45 minutes but you get places like this where there’s bolts all along kind of cool see all the different colored bolts um but usually where you see a lot of bolts and stuff you all still have a lot of people on the trail so today’s a Friday tomorrow obviously the weekend starts so we’ll be further away from civilization tomorrow on Sunday so that might be good because might mean there’s less traffic um so it’s like two sets of paths I’m not sure if that one’s for pedestrians or what I see other bikes up on this one so this is where we’ll stay so today we’re going from Cho to gardo I think that’s how you pronounce it be honest I don’t know how you pronounce anything around here except for bonjour and Mery Mery meaning thank you mour meaning like hello so sometimes I’ll say banjo hello and see if the person like acknowledges the hello part know if I’m speaking English or not um we were getting our food yesterday there was a girl speaking English and uh we talked to her for a few minutes she’s from Florida she’s here for a semester doing uh majoring in international studies so I haven’t been talking about these boats but apparently people must live on them and that there’s that like all types of plants and that’s what Jodie’s boat would look like that’s what your boat would look like yep full plants and so we saw we’ve seen some really old deced dilapidated bolts I’d say a lot of the botels have like bicycles on them so I think they just live there that person must just pull up in the car beside their boat then uh off to the left about a half a mile there’s a major road like a freeway type of road so we were needing some food and we were on this country road that ran next to a Interstate type Road and of course we’re not wearing bikes on the interstate but there was a a fence a spot where we get through the fence from the country road out to the to the travel plaza and so we walked through the fence with our bikes then went over and Par worked them got herself some lunch and these uh two French grades came up and then like and then they didn’t speak English but uh what they were trying to figure out like H how do we get their own bicycles on the interstate and then uh I actually kind of understood what they were saying and I pointed over the fence and they’re like oh we wait wait so then got done eating I was uh talking to him a little bit with Google translate struggling they they thought that was cool that Google translate they didn’t know that thing existed then after like 5 minutes of talking to him the wife starts talking to me in English I’m like oh you speak English she goes yeah they don’t I do I’m thinking why didn’t you like translate their we we we and their lonor and their other things so know like a horse oh there’s like an electric fence thingy so I got to be careful with jod she’ll just stay on the brakes no warning just kapow I don’t know if I’d like them going a boat or not I don’t know how the electricity and I guess they got a solar panel um lots of plants on the front deck or bowel whatever you call it so all right look like we’re hitting the rural Countryside way off to the right there’s some hills and then see here’s a bat up here that looks like it’s not been inhabitant for a while there through the weeds maybe it has all right that’s an update there’s our bicycles there’s a an Dominican tourist in front so the app uh takes us off Trail sometimes to go see things and she just brought us up this uh this uh Hill that we had to walk up to see this church and it is pretty cool like jod said these church is all starting to look the same and we kind of get sick of them but um they’re fun oh so not only did she bring us up this hill she’s brought us to this point where the road was closed because of a construction y so this is an old Street we’re supposed to come down but they got all tore up I guess they’re replacing the they must be replacing the thousand year old Cobblestone with 500y old modern cob Cobblestone and then uh so the detour brought us from that direction riding down the road and all of a sudden I expected to go down that hill and uh why expected to go down that hill and it was steps so we had to deviate from our plane and they like to use the word deviation here in France you see all those those bigest bells up there yeah so it must be 1:00 I didn’t hear them ringing yeah me either so these churches are pretty cool and they’re hundreds of years old so we got a little bit of a breeze today but sadly it’s coming against us last couple days we’ve had the breeze behind us um so we are riding from west to east actually like right in southeast so all right so it’s about 1:00 we uh can’t get to our place too early cuz uh apparently we can’t check until 5: we get there early we can sit in the garden and wait yeah the the instructions say sit in the garden I wonder what they got good to eat in the garden my problem I’m almost out of I got a big bottle of water oh Jody’s got some water I drink about six times amount of water as jod does so all right so we’re supposed to go up the hill even more I believe so all right that’s the update it’s time for a video camera doesn’t show it but that’s a hill in front of us and uh that a hill behind us so the only thing I can explain how the hill looks you look at the foundation that building is straight and then you look at that curb going down that doesn’t even like seem to uh you look at about the top of that tree is almost about even with the top of that roof kind of that doesn’t really tell it anyhow but if you look at that ground over there look at the front of the bus and then look at the ground to the right it’s about the same height so maybe that explains how how much of a hill that is oh somebody’s riding down there somebody’s riding down the hill so if you watch him you’s got to go by at like 30 miles an hour so mil so he’s bucking he’s wobbling so you tell he’s not pedling the wind is in his hair and he’s a booking bonjour yeah so me that explains how the H what the hill is like so um I still haven’t seen a pickup truck in France not one pickup truck have you seen a pickup truck Jodie I thought you did that one time we were out it wasn’t really a pickup truck it was like a van it was like a van front with like a flat bed that’s the closest thing I’ve seen to a pickup truck um yeah I don’t know I don’t know how many haul stuff around here I don’t know bicycle so we got to go to the top of that hill and um we’re taking a break under the shade tree all right here we go we are in what is it the name of the town garage no oh mue mon SKU France so I just got him making a video like two seconds ago but then we came down this hill like 100 miles hour ah to this Lookout so this is a another one of these uh can’t see the fence around the town or the wall so I think it’s a another fortified City big old church so they apparently built the town on top of this hill so they can watch the no gooders as they approach the city so what we have in front of us is a sunflower field that’s ready to be harvested our um Canal is along there somewhere um on the other side of those cars in that motorcycle somewhere so we’re going to be going down a hill here down this hill in just a few seconds so who’s the statue of woman I don’t know it this a statue of some woman some animal it’s some animals there’s a war moral up there a bunch of names on there that died between 1914 1918 so evidently the Revolutionary War not the Revolutionary War the World War I man I need a break so there’s a baby and a lion’s head and a cow’s head and I don’t know what this is supposed to be um I suppose I could Google it but these old towns are pretty cool in rural France South France I mean there’s not really like your traditional downtown district or anything like that um the the buildings are built like um all connected with brick and uh they’re not like individually standing houses for the most part um like this might these might be I don’t know very interesting so Okie do I’m making a video what we’re eating so I got a sandwich pette with mayonnaise and nille what’s that mean Jodie I think it’s new oh it’s new new so that’s my sandwich so chicken and mayonnaise and I think there’s pentos on there Jody’s having a wrap chicken bacon chicken bacon chatar but cheddar burger sauce burger sauce and then this is corn and tomato so we’re trying to find like macaroni salad or something and we found or potato salad um we found this my sugarfree Coke Jody’s got this uh shs shrips so that’s that’s what’s for dinner we’re on a walk we on to walk on jod Jody’s so excited to be on a walk mod so we can see each other jod likes to stop and look at the trees and see what fig tree I was looking to see but all the figs are upside oh if you stood on my shoulders you can get up there yeah so we’re walking around this little village the B&B we’re staying at is over Over Yonder you can’t see it from here um we stopped and bought a couple of sandwiches and some stuff eating it and as we’re eating it snake come slithering under the table like between our feets and off into the weeds and then uh I heard some people speak in English and I asking about venomous snakes around here Google says there’s four different types of venomous snakes including the highly venomous Death Adder and then uh some other Creepy Crawlers there’s Jodie she doesn’t like the sun on her let you on camera yay yay so we’re in the same clothes over and over again because we only brought carry-on luggage so that’s why you see us wearing the same we do do laund so all I got three shirts two pairs of shorts one pair of bicycling shorts three pairs of socks one pair of underwear um I got like four pair of underwear so we’re next to the canal what this big hole here oh it’s like a little aqueduck so sun is nice and bright I’m going flip this back I flipped it around so um at the B&B we’re at some people are speaking English and we got talking to them it’s like a young girl and her parents and uh they were setting up for something and she’s getting married there tomorrow and uh so they invited jod and I to come to the reception but we’re going to be taking off the morning if we would if we would have hit it like one day different well it might not have been available but uh that’d be kind of cool to hang out at a French wedding see how they uh party I wonder know what the divorce rate is here in uh France what I said I wonder what the divorce rate is in France just wondering so earlier Google um took us beyond the hotel that is an RV Jody so you don’t see many RVs you don’t see much of anything better than that oh easy easy guy wasn’t paying attention so these house bolts are interesting except I think I might get bored just going up and down this canal wouldn’t you but you can go all the way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediteranean sea on those but it appears to me that most people just live in their boats right here park one the can just park on the canal and and then there’s an old uh one of those is like the old lock house wait we need to wait unless we want to walk down between there not really so I’ll find a Dandy till you fall in that hole so there’s a creek running down there’s an Aqua Duck over there a little different than most Aqua Ducks we’ve seen we also got Doritos for our dinner along with our sandwiches natural Cheese Doritos and they taste like generic Doritos in United States yeah they’re thinner and um I don’t know cut through here they were thinner and they were natural cheese but I think they tasted like a little th what I don’t think the th just corn texture the texture was different cheese everything different I thought they had a hint of like tastes a little bit like taco Doritos you get United States tast like the generic Doritos that you buy in store not that we buy generic Doritos I bought them before [Applause] all right let’s pause this for a minute that says uh 1730 so we’ll go across this go across this loock this bridge I won’t pause it I’ll keep Jody’s like boring going to go read my book and go to sleep the sun’s like directly above their heads and you want to go to sleep when we got there were in taking the shower I fell asleep on the bed Jody’s not much of a partyer the French people probably glad we can’t come to that wedding tomorrow cuz you probably like sit there and fall asleep during their during their uh their their Bridal dance we got to bring a take a uber back down here my butt for the for the wedding so through those weeds is where our B&B is we of bushes bushes all right let’s pause this for a minute I’ve always heard of brick out houses now I see one nah local boat holidays I wonder if you can rent the boat so this is the the the the side de Negra B bed all right we’re going to walk down this way instead of stop ahead signs they have like this yield sign and we say stop in 50 m or 100 m or 150 M on it so besides not seeing any pickup trucks in this country we haven’t seen any vinyl sighting that’s correct and really we haven’t really seen that many or I don’t know if I’ve seen any asphalt shingle roofs have you no I don’t know most of them are these clay ties so they have all these clay tile things we’ve been I would say we’ve been haven’t I can’t say we’ve been all over France but we’ve been we’ve been all quite a we’ve been around and I haven’t seen one pickup truck Jody’s getting tired of me saying that I saw like a a truck that was or a van with a flatbed um with um stuckle wood siding stco and then brick and then Stone yeah but but no vinyl sighing I’ve actually once we noticed that actually kind of been looking for that so this dog we saw earlier I think he lives here so so over there to the right they’re setting up getting ready for that [Applause] wedding okay thanks for going on a walk with this Jody didn’t want to go for a walk but Facebook wanted to go for a walk the snake we saw was we’re sitting at this table I scare you sitting at that table over there and that snake come slithering right underneath the table right between us then he came slithering over here somewhere so jod try to make friends with this cat and then it bit her cat must not like these uh bugs what is that is it [Music] tick get it there you craw back on them so all right that’s a French sese cat [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
