Immersion: My secret to becoming a FLUENT Italian donna FAST

[Music] Anise not knowing Italian that ends today. I found a school. I’m excited. So I can go from like the dumb dumb American who only knows how to say to the American that can be like, “Hey, wow.” Always like literally killing my [Music] One time [Music] and welcome back to my channel. If you’re new here, my name is Anise and I’m an American living in London who just recently closed on her dream beach house in the south of Italy, Pulia to be exact. Today I am in Gretalier. [Music] Today I am actually in Gitalier. This is my second time here. I come here to take one Italian language classes because trust me, when you are dealing with buying a house in the south of Italy where not a lot of people speak English and you are dealing with the beginnings of a renovation project, trust me, you want to make sure that you get your Italian down because everything is just so much harder otherwise. So, I have just arrived. I flew down from London a few days ago. Actually, I had a friend come down with me. My first friend who stayed at the house and she and I spent some time at the beach and then we spent the weekend in Leche. It was my first time in Leche and her first time in Pulia. So, that was wonderful. And we departed this morning. She hopped on a train from Leche up to Rome and she’s going to do some solo travel up there in Rome. And I spent a little bit more of the day in Leche. Did a little bit of shopping. It’s very hot right now in Pulya. super hot in the city. So, I did a little bit of shopping to try and get a few more linen dresses just to feel like I can breathe a bit more in this hot weather. After shopping, I got on the road and drove to Cretalier and now I am here. I’m staying at a very, very cute Airbnb. I always tend to stay in the old town whenever I come to do my lessons. The school is not even 5 minutes walk from many of the Airbnbs and accommodations that they have here in the old town. So, this is actually my second stint here in Gratalier. I’ve taken one week of absolute beginner Italian classes. Um, my teacher Teresa is lovely and she knows that I am back and forth between London and here. And, um, she has a group this week that are not complete beginners. So, they’re doing the second half of level A1, I think it’s called. So, I’ll be joining them to do my second part of beginner Italian. And yeah, just generally being here in Italy and having no choice but to speak in broken Italian to people because they don’t speak English has really been helping me learn Italian. So if you are ever considering learning a language, if you can, I would highly recommend taking classes in the country where the language is spoken. It just helps so much to get that like comprehension and and just feel and comfort. I have lost so much of my Italian from the first time I took classes with Teresa. So, I think I will try and study a little bit tonight just to brush up and review so that I don’t go into the first day of class. See me like I never spoke Italian before in my life and then probably have a little bit of dinner later. But it’s a really beautiful evening here in Cortalia. Actually, it’s not as hot as I thought it was going to be. So, now is probably a better time than ever just to take a little walk before I stay in for the night and start lessons bright and early tomorrow. So with that, see you guys in class. [Music] [Music] Show it. Show it. Show it. [Music] Show it. Joy, joy. [Music] without the out the out the [Music] Wow. So nice. [Music] Show it. Show it. Show it. Show it. [Music] Show it. Show it. Show it. [Music] [Music] Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. I am in Italia. Why wouldn’t I be? Um, for those of you who are new here, my name is Anise. I’m an American living in London, but I’m going to start saying American London asterric because if you have seen the most recent series that was just published, you would know that your girl has become an Italian donor living in her new villa in Bula. So, I thought it was about time that I learned this language. This whole process has been so interesting and I’m so grateful that I’ve had a wonderful community to help me with this process. A lot of parties have been involved, but a big part of why they’ve been involved is because I don’t know anything about this region, so they’ve been helping me out. And also because I don’t speak Italian. That can only last for so long. I’m not about to be one of these expats that goes to a new country, wants to uh absorb all of the amazing things about it, but can’t take time to bother to learn the culture or the language. So Anise not knowing Italian that ends today. Why? Because I am in Galier, a beautiful wonderful town in Pulia, not too far from my beach house. And in this town, I found a school that teaches non-Italian speakers to speak Italian. You don’t even have to be an English speaker. You could be a French person. You could be a Spanish person. You could speak uh ebo. Who knows? But if you want to learn Italian, there is a school in Italy that will teach you in Pulya specifically that will teach you how to speak Italian. And the wonderful thing about the school is that it’s in a more local town. Yeah, I could have gone to Florence to Rome and have that experience of like the American abroad and Italy learning Italian. But the wonderful thing about this school is that it’s in a small local town that has similarities to where I bought my house. And yeah, it’ll just be a week, an intensive week where I will have 30 hours of teaching. So I can go from like the dumb dumb American who only knows how to say to the American that can be like, “Hey, wow.” Always like literally killing my Americana. Okay. Okay. I’m in this amazing town, Grotalier. It’s close to my town and I’m excited. I’m super excited. So, in Italian, I’m excited to explore this town. I’m excited to eat endless pasta and pizza and everything good that tastes here. And I’m excited to learn more about what my life can be as someone living in Italy. And with that, it’s time to jump into my week here in Gotalia and are you excited to eat? Oh, I can’t. We just got into a fight about Panzi. So, bye. [Music]

I’m taking the leap and finally learning the Italian language! Come with me as I attend my Italian lessons, explore a local town, and get inspired by my surroundings. Follow my journey as I finally dive into learning the italian language and explore a local school in Italy! It’s time for this american expat to get fully immersed in the local Italian culture. Wish me luck!

  1. I was wondering, as a resident of Puglia, what are your experiences like as a Black person? Have you ever felt disrespected, or do you feel a sense of belonging there?

  2. And of course she has equally pretty and classy friends!! Good luck with your Italian lessons, I"m studying Italian on Babbel, and plan to move to Abruzzo full time in the autumn. My dream house is pretty much move in ready, except it lacks a kitchen so I will only really have to converse with the IKEA people๐Ÿ˜…
Your villa is gorgeous and will be so fantastic. All the best to you and Bae!

  3. I love that youโ€™re learning Italian to help you communicate with the locals. It makes things so much easier if you want to be integrated in the culture. Iโ€™m trying to learn some of the basics now. I do agree with you that itโ€™s easier to learn in person and with others because itโ€™s been rough. lol
