LIMITED ACCESS to Old Towns in Mallorca, Spain [Soller, Deia & Valldemossa]
so this video is all about managing your expectations if you’re hoping to visit some of the most popular hilltop towns over here in Morca this summer and we’re talking Vdeorsa we’re talking Dea and we’re talking Soya Oldtown too and you can see that I’m over here in Dea today we’re going to take a walk up and into the village i’m going to give you my top tips for visiting this area and if you’re unable to see us over here in Mayorca this summer well I’m going to give you some nice views too so let’s turn the camera around and let’s check out Dea today so you can see as I turn the camera around I’m on the walkway here which runs right in front of the village and we’re looking out onto this UNESCO protected area i mean it’s absolutely stunning it’s absolutely gorgeous but before we head on into the village we’re just going to talk about parking or the distinct lack of parking right at the end of this pathway here so the first thing I’m going to say and I did say in my Port Doya video my very most recent Port Do Soya video is do not visit somewhere like Dea in a higher car because there’s barely any parking in this village and I have seen many comments on the channel as well from viewers who have said that they’ve never actually had the opportunity to stop off just because all the parkings have been filled up and we can see today as we come into the village there’s a smattering of spaces and well I can see some people double park too but anyway let’s head on up and into the village so the best way to visit Dea has just gone speeding by me here and that’s the TIB bus and that’s heading in the direction of Vald Deoser so in the description text below this video you’re going to find my recommended itinerary for visiting Vald Deosa for visiting Dea and Soyer and Port Soyer and that is by public bus because if you do want to make a stop off in Dea well public bus is going to be the way to go unless of course you’re cycling and of course this is a really very popular cycling destination too but you’re going to find this area to be almost virtually impossible to park as we roll into the summer season it’s very hard to park here even out of the summer season too and as we head on into the village I’m going to show you that public parking area and you’re going to see just how small that is too which is why so many people end up coming right the way through this village without even being able to stop off so if you are lucky enough to get a parking space over here in DeA you’re going to enjoy walking along this beautiful walkway all the way past the the lemon groves and the olive groves here with these amazing views out across the village alternatively if you follow my advice in my itinerary video as well I show you the best bus stop to get off at which will mean that you can enjoy this walk too now it can get very very noisy over here this isn’t a very silent village because we do get a lot of traffic coming through and we do have a lot of holiday makers here but every now and again you do get moments of silence which has to be and must be enjoyed so if you look back on my port to Soyer video I’ll also drop a link to that in the description text below i was very clear about not driving to the port this summer because many of the residential streets over there do now have residence only parking so it’s going to be very very hard for you to take your hire car over there which is why I recommend you take the bus the buses will be busy but they’ll also be running very very frequently too also over in Soya Oldtown they’ve also created a brand new car park area too so I think it’s actually it’s actually a field that’s been converted into a car park or an orchard which which just goes to show the scale of the traffic that that now comes through the old town and they’re trying to make make it a lot safer for people to visit and allow people to be able to leave their higher cars in a safe spot rather than on the sides of the roads or blocking or blocking entrances to people’s homes as well but even so that’s not going to guarantee you a parking space if you’re hoping to head into Soyer Oldtown which is why I still recommend if you’re heading towards Soyer to get the public bus or indeed get the wooden train but it’s a very much a different story over here in DeA because well you can see how mountainous it is and there’s no real large swavthes of flat land to to place a car park which is why parking is so limited over here alternatively there are a few tours that you can book too and you can be then guaranteed of a seat on the bus to come up to to Valdeza or Soyer unfortunately these buses these tour buses also do not stop off in Dea for the exact same reason as to why there’s not a bigger car parking spot here and that’s because there just isn’t the space to park up these these huge buses which normally carry people up from the cruises or on these organized day trips now I am going to drop a link to some organized day trips over to Soyer and to Valdez in the description text below this video go and check them out and the chances are you will drive through Dea but you won’t actually get a chance to stop here which is again the reason why if you want to see this this lovely old town is is why this summer you’re going to have to take the bus or be very very lucky bringing your higher car [Music] so as we come into day at Oldtown here we’re just starting to see the first signs of life and many of these restaurants here have now thrown their doors open for the summer i’m just standing in front of Cafe Dea i can see they do nice selection of tapas got some really lovely spots here i mean it’s absolutely gorgeous and glorious here look just looking over the side here I can hear the the trickling of water coming down through this little waterway here quite surprised actually we haven’t actually had very much rain recently so rather surprised to see that let’s keep walking so as we head on into Dea Town today we can see this this stream of traffic coming through the village and this is why I say that unless you’re staying in in one of the lovely beautiful boutique luxury hotels your visit here isn’t going to be quite as quiet as you may think as well so just checking out the Safant Fresca restaurant here which actually is open year round let’s get an idea of what their menu delier is because of course this is this gets served every single day different menu but today and for this summer for 2025 it’s now €18 i remember a day actually when it was about 10 or 12 it’s just a few years ago when I first started the channel just to keep give you an idea how prices have gone up over here but day it is just an absolutely glorious village it’s very very unique actually and I don’t think there’s anywhere quite like it over here in Mayora it’s a town that attracts celebrities it attracts artists writers filmmakers millionaires and billionaires it’s also got a very nice local community too so much of the conversation about Mayora at the moment is about putting some kind of a limit on tourism over here and it’s being quite subtly done and you’re going to see these signs popping up all over all over Morca’s most popular old towns these are areas of restricted circulation and it’s these streets now that are going to be residents only parking in fact look you can see another sign up here look another restricted parking sign if you see red lines on the road well that means that you cannot park and this is because in the past where we had a lot of higher cars sneaking down these side streets making it absolutely impossible for residents to to park their own vehicles here anyway let’s head on back up and into the village it’s got some absolutely lovely little boutique shops here this one comes with its own cat really is absolutely lovely now many of these shops unfortunately do close over the winter and for that reason I am going to say that many of these are tourist shops much of DEA does close down during the winter months look at this boutique here absolutely stunning so as we come through the village we see streams of cyclists coming on through we have just had the 312 cycle race in April and that’s when you’re going to find Dea places like Dea and Vdeorsa to be at at their most busy from experience things have quietened off a little bit actually we still have a fair few cyclists coming through the village today but not half as many as we see in the months of April [Music] and this is the main supermarket over here in DeA you’re not going to find a Yuroski or a Mercedon [Music] but you are going to find little restaurants look up these side streets down the side streets as well and some other little lovely boutiques this one’s called X that’s quite an interesting name that’s all the all the rage at the moment talking about things that give you the ick well you can get your icks [Music] here on a Wednesday as well you’re going to find the smallest local market over here in Mayorca right in this spot right in the middle of DeA Village next time I come back actually I’ll have to make it on a Wednesday make sure you go and visit the very very famous famosa samosas or samosas fam famosas whichever way around you like you’re gonna find the very very best samosas over here on market day in Dea village which is actually quite unusual but you have to try them so I’m coming up to show you the sum total of the parking that we have over here in Dea these blue lines show that you have to actually pay for parking there will be parking machines around the town but we’re just coming up to the main car park here and you can just see how small this is and you can see look got basically about four small lines of parking so you can understand now why I recommend getting a bus you can just see how busy it gets my goodness i’m coming into a waiting queue of cars trying to get into the car park if you’re wondering how I got to Dea today well I went to go and see my my friend Lisa who runs the hairpa over in the hotel residencia so I was lucky enough to park there but look got another few spaces to my right hand side but even so you can see that some of these are dedicated to taxis but you do have a smattering of spaces so go back and watch my videos if you want to see what DEA is like you want to get a few more walkounds from here as well and it’s at this point as well that if you’re looking to walk down to the beach I’ve got a lovely beach walk video for you here as well make sure you’re wearing trainers or hiking boots don’t wear flip flops you can see a little bit more parking here as well look but this belongs to a hotel so once again not for public use now like I said I’ve got so many videos here where I’m walking up to this up to this church it’s absolutely stunning we don’t quite have the weather today unfortunately it’s a little bit on the cloudy side it’s also a little bit fresh as well even though we are in May but go back and watch those i’ll drop a couple of links in the description text below this video [Music] so many of the little apartments and houses here are in fact holiday homes and in fact we’ve got much much fewer residents here than we actually have holiday makers let me know if you holiday here actually and if you also get to enjoy some peace i suspect you can find there to be very very quiet if you head on down the side streets or head up into the hills a little bit but much of this whole area here lies pretty much empty over the winter months looking a little bit busier now but we’re seeing a lot of these these private rentals being opened up for the summer and we’re just starting to see a few views of the sea down towards Cala which you can get to and you can drive to taking a left a little bit further on i’ve also got a video all about Cala to go and check that out you wouldn’t catch me driving down that road now though not at this time of year not during the summer any longer which brings me on to this being one of the the final areas here that you can park over here in Dea i think there may be a car park a little bit further on around the the the Robert Graves Center but that’s going to be your lot okay everyone i hope that’s given you an idea of what it’s like visiting some of the old towns this summer and some of the best ways to see them too you’re going to find appearing here on YouTube my recommended itinerary for visiting Valdea dea and soy avoid bringing a higher car that’s all all I can say unless you get here very very early in the morning however I will be back in the old towns this summer with some more top tips we’re going to see how busy it is and how crowded it is okay everyone don’t forget you can also find me in the Facebook group and on my Instagram also called Morca Under the Sun thanks for watching and I look forward to seeing you on the next one goodbye for now

Afternoon Alex from Joe and Sue here in sunny Cala Egos. Joe xx 💗
Great video Alex. Deia looks beautiful. Love these small town videos. Very interesting. Have a lovely weekend, John
we plan to come by rented car, our hotel is in Porto Cristo, we will get up at 6am, and I hope we will find parking 🙈
Loverly picture
Great video thank you Alex looks lovely there
It really is a lovely village, and I’m so glad they have put parking only for residents. I know what it’s like to live in a tourist area and in summer it’s not good, people think they can just look through your window. So yes I moved house. Thanks Alex.
I am convinced that the best way of seeing these villages now, is on your videos. The thought of driving in Mallorca is pretty stressful & then circling round trying to find parking, does not sound like the best way to spend a holiday. So glad that there is more residents parking.
Thanks for the lovely in depth upload 👍 fantastic Spanish villages,it must make a nice change from the beaches 👍❤️
Very useful information Alex. A really good watch. BTW was that Jason Donovan coming out of the local ?😂
Hiya Alex..deia is such a lovely picture card village. Never tired of seeing it, and Kirk Douglas washing on the line. Lol. Hope you got to see some fellow celebrities around there Alex.
Cracking video today beautiful place wow.
Loved video Alex. I was invited to a wedding in Deia in the church. It's stunning inside.
🤡☘️☘️☘️👍
I’m looking at all your videos. I will be there for a wedding in October. I’m trying to figure out places to visit in Deia. The wedding will be at Jardines de Alfabia!! We are so excited!!! Thanks for such informative videos!!!!
By holiday base is always Paguera, but I am lucky to have Spanish residents friends who take me all over the place, Inc, little secluded mountain villages and authentic food in beautiful old restaurants/ pub combis the locals frequent with none or very few tourists. I absolutely adore delicious aioli dips with equally delicious local bread….but my stomach isn’t keen on aioli .
Hi Alex great video we have just come back from our holiday to Majorca apart from a couple dodgy days weather wise we a had a great time only disappointment was didn't see you near our hotel Son Baulo in Ca'n Pickafort !! 😄 we also went to Valldamosa and Soller wonderful done lots of walking ! can not wait to come back . 👍
Thanks so much for the great videos and detail Alex. Looks like a lot of changes since our last visit to the Island before covid. 😊❤
Best way to visit is booking a trike tour.absolutly fantastic up into the mountains and down the coast
I'm catching up on your videos Alex, as unfortunately I've been rather busy lately.
There probably isn't a place that I don't like in Mallorca, but I do get why the locals get fed up, especially in the summer, as I've said on quite a few occasions.
Always interesting Alex and thank you sincerely for all your hard work. 🙏
We have come to Deia this morning, got here at 8am, no problem parking at all……everything is closed obviously aside from a cafe where Andrew Lloyd Webber was enjoying his breakfast😊absolutely stunning village, just get here super early!
