How to Spend 5 Days in Algarve, Portugal | Algarve 5-Day Itinerary
We recently had an amazing trip to the Algav region in Portugal. This was our first time to the country and we had a wonderful holiday here. And in this video, I’m going to share how you can spend 5 days exploring this side of Portugal. The Algam region in Portugal is one of Europe’s most beautiful coastal escapes. Think dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, charming old towns, and plenty of sunshine. We are Sakshi, DJ, and Little Pixie. And on our recent trip to Algav, we packed in everything from boat tours to beach lounging and pastel donata tasting. So, let’s get into the details. Our itinary is also available on our website, the link to which is in the description box below. So, we visited in mid June, which was uh just before the peak summer season kicks in. And this was just perfect because the days were warm and sunny, but not too hot. And the crowds were light, which meant that we could enjoy the beaches and other places without too much hustle. So, we really recommend this time of the year if you’re looking for that sweet spot. So, we flew into the Farro International Airport, which is the closest airport in the Algav region, and it’s also well connected to other European cities. But if you’re traveling from a destination which is not well connected to Faroh, or if you’re traveling from a place that’s further away, you could fly into Lisbon. And from there, it’s a 3-hour drive to the Algav region. You also have the option to take a bus or a train, which takes around 4 hours. So after landing we chose to spend a day in Faroh itself. It is the capital of the Algav region and is often overlooked but we think that it’s definitely worth spending a day here. It’s a charming old town and just walking around in the beautiful tiled laneways was wonderful. It also has a very laid-back vibe and we think it’s an excellent introduction to the Algav. Farro is a compact walkable town and we went walking to most places of interest. Okay. Given that we stayed in a comfortable Airbnb right in the old town, it made it even more convenient. Some of the tudos in Faroh include just walking around the beautiful tiled laneways of the old town and grabbing some food and drinks at a local restaurant or cafe. Then you can visit the Farro Cathedral and climb the tower for city and sea views. Or even visit the bone chapel. Fascinating but a little spooky. If time permits, you can take a boat tour to the Ria Natural Park, a beautiful coastal lagoon. As you know, there are multiple cities and towns that you can explore within the region. So, we chose to rent a car so that we could easily move between cities with our 4-year-old. But if renting a car is something that you’re not very keen on, then bus and taxi options are available to move between cities. We chose to rent a compact car, a Citroen C3 automatic from a local uh provider called Yes Car Higher, and the experience with them was good and hassle-free. And the cost to us was about €420 for a 5-day rental. A town we wanted to visit uh located about 40 minutes from Parro is called Tavira. So originally we had planned a day trip from Parro to Tavira because our itinary was for 7 days but due to certain reasons we had to cut it short but if you have more time at hand then I would recommend checking this town out. Another town that you may want to visit close to Faroh is called Albufera. known for its lively old town and a great mix of shopping, dining, and access to the beach right from the town. It’s also very well known for its vibrant night life. Now, let’s move on to Lagos, our main base location, which quickly became one of our favorite spots in the Algav. It’s lively but not overwhelming, packed with natural beauty and loads to do. Our accommodation was at the Marina Club Lago resort with a great view from the balcony and several amenities such as swimming pools, gym, spa, and a bar. The stay was especially comfortable as we had booked a suite which had a living room with sofa beds, a separate bedroom and a welle equipped kitchen which was very useful for preparing light meals and snacks. The location was very convenient for catching boat tours and it was a walkable distance to the old town as well. Several restaurants and cafes were within walking distance, too. A lot of our commute was on foot, especially to the old town and back and to the marina and back. However, to get to certain locations, such as the beaches and the boardwalks, we drove down in the rental car. Now, let’s get into the things to do in Lagos. One of the mustos in Lagos is hopping on a boat tour to explore the grotto, or in other words, the sea caves. Several providers offer these and we went with Sea Ferris for a 1-hour tour where a small boat took us to the grotto at Ponta de Piad. We enjoyed being on the water and the scenery all around. But we absolutely loved how the small boat could see through the sea caves and under the towering rock arches. It felt so surreal and was a relaxing way to enjoy the grotto. [Music] [Music] Other than this, there are plenty of tour options available depending on your vibe and budget. If you are looking for a more upscale experience, consider booking a yacht cruise. These often include drinks, snacks, and even paddle boards or snorkeling gear on board. You can find half-day, full day, and sunset cruises. For the adventurers, guided kayak tours are a fun and active way to explore the coastline up close. Sailing boats also offer relaxed cruises around the coast. These are quieter and often include stops for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. For those looking to enjoy some music and drinks on the water, Lagos also offers party cruises, usually in the form of catarans with DJs, an open bar, and sometimes swimming stops. These are more seasonal and tend to run during the summer. For a more thrilling experience, the 2-hour dolphin watching tour is an exciting ride into the Atlantic on a speedboat. We were lucky to spot a whole pod of bottl-nose dolphins swimming at close waters. It was such a heartwarming moment, especially for our little one. We went with Sea Ferris again for this one. The tours are respectful of the dolphin space, and the guides share fun facts along the way, too. What did you say? Dolphin. [Music] [Music] Then you have the charming Lago Old Town. Think tiled laneways, colorful facads, and loads of hidden little cafes and shops to discover. It has a lively vibe that makes wandering around a real pleasure. We love strolling through early in the morning for quieter streets, but also at other times of the day for some food and shopping. If you’re into unique handmade finds, the old town offers artisan shops. We came across ceramic grers, handstitched sandals, and even eco-friendly clothes and shoes made from natural materials. Whether you’re looking for meaningful souvenirs or just want to treat yourself, the local shops are full of personality and craft. No trip to Portugal is complete without trying a pastel denata. It’s a creamy custard tart with a flaky golden crust that’s served warm and often sprinkled with cinnamon. We tried ours at Padaria Central and they were melt in the mouth good. Honestly, we went back for more. The beaches in and around Lagos are beautiful. Whether you are into long sandy stretches or hidden coes surrounded by cliffs, there’s a beach here for you. Each with golden sand and crystal clear waters that are perfect for swimming or just lounging under the sun. The Donna Anana Beach was our favorite for its breathtaking setting and calm waters, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The scenic boardwalk located near the lighthouse is one of the best ways to take in the stunning cliffs and ocean views around Ponta Dapiad without having to hike. The wooden path stretches along the cliffs and leads to some incredible viewpoints, especially if you time it around sunset. It’s super easy to walk, also stroller friendly, and great for all ages. Lastly, just a quick one. If you are looking for some day trip options around Lagos, consider visiting the towns of Sagres, Silves, and Portimau. And if you’re looking to base yourself in a resort town instead, then Carvero is the one. Thanks for watching, and I hope that this video has given you a good starting point to start planning your own trip to the Algav. Until next time, take care and see you soon. Hello Hello on you.
