toul: day trip from nancy, france 🍷🇫🇷
Today we are taking a little day trip to a smaller town near nancy called Toul. I visited the city a few times, but I saw a cool photo of a spot I haven’t been to yet. So I thought why not bring you along as well! Toul is in the Lorraine region of France with a population of about 15,000 residents. Now if you ask locals, Toul is most known for its cathedral, its gray wine or “vin gris” as well as its historical significance. So today we’ll explore the town, try some wine from a local vineyard, explore the ramparts, and then also some other cool spots. Alright, “c’est parti !” As for some of the history of Toul, it was known as a fortified town and strategic military site. It uses the Vauban fortification system, making it a key part of the defensive
line along France’s eastern frontier. And as you can see behind me, the ramparts and defensive walls are still visible today. Next up is the place I saw a photo of that was actually my inspiration for coming today. Tada ! one, it’s just super cute, but I also learned it was a shop built in 1880 and it served as a showcase for Toul’s earthenware pottery. Then it was taken over by a shoe maker and then later it was taken over by the city as a showcase for Toul. So behind me is the cathedral saint-etienne, and it was built between the 13th and 15th century in a Gothic style. Let’s go inside, and then they also have a tower that you can go up in. Not sure if it’s open right now, so we’ll go in and find out. But apparently there’s a really nice view of the city once you go up there. let’s go. She had to unlock the door for me, meaning there’s no one else here. So, I get a private little visit up top.I already started (climbing)… lots of stairs… good workout ! So we are now at the top and private tour for just us ! but it is quite the cool view. We just saw over that way the house that we walked over to earlier And then you can also see over that way is the canal. So Toul is actually located right along the Moselle River and there
are locks and rivers all around the city. You can see behind me there is the canal de la marne au rhin, and it would also be a really nice area to walk or rent a bike and ride along there because they do have some nice cycling paths. We just went up into the Tower of the Cathedral and I asked the lady at the front desk and it is 325 stairs. We’re going to go over to a little cafe: get some water and something else to drink and chill out before we do our next little stop. Woohoo ! And honestly, I’m kind of surprised. Like, I think this town is super cute. A lot of people from Nancy aren’t really a fan of Toul (bad reputation) but honestly like it’s small but cute and yeah, it’s very charming. I like it. Now we are at our last stop. We are in this small little, I’d say even village, right near Toul. It’s about a 10-minute drive to the village of Lucey. We’re currently at le vin lelièvre in Lucey. we’re doing a wine tasting and right now just strolling through the vineyard. And Toul is known for its vin gris, which is like a pale rosé style wine. This wine actually holds the label of “Appellation d’origine controlée” or AOC. And all that means is that this is an official label in France to signify that all of its production and processing are carried out not only in a specific “terroir” or geographical area, but also that it follows all the appropriate protocol, expertise, methods and all of that to ensure its quality. So this wine is light and dry. It has a little bit of a red berry aroma: so like gooseberry, black currant, cherry, those kind of flavors. And it’s usually paired with typical dishes from the Lorraine region where we’re currently at. So that would be like quiche lorraine, pâté lorrain or even potée lorraine which is like a meat, potatoes, vegetable style dish. So, I just did the wine tasting and I tried the vin gris from a couple different years and then they also had a “pétillante” which is more of a bubbly wine and that was actually my favorite so I ended up getting a bottle. They also had some red wines but I did ask what’s the best seller or the one that they produce the most and that would be the vin gris. So, it makes sense for this region. Also looking at the map, there’s a lot of calcium in the soil here which for the “terroir” or the geographical area, it produces the vin gris the best. There are also several festivals throughout the year. There’s some wine festivals, medieval fairs, things like that. I also asked the guy at the cafe that I just went to why the fountain was pink?? and he said it was because they’re doing some sort of light show in the evening, and you follow the things that are pink. There are some things to do. It is still quite a quiet, sleepy town, so to speak, but it’s really cute and charming and there are some things to see and do. Let me know your favorite part in the comments below ! Thanks so much for watching * gros bisous et à la prochaine salut ! *

très belle vid comme d'hab !
C'est à cause du vin gris toulois que cela s'appelle "être grisé" ?
note: orthographe non-orthodoxe "ramparts" (?!)
