Scenes from the beautiful Old Town in Hastings, East Sussex. Several buildings are medieval, but you also see Georgian and Victorian structures there.
The Old Town was a great haunt for smugglers back in the day.
A small garden in the Old Town memorializes The Swan Hotel, destroyed by enemy action in 1943 (hence the music here, “Swans in Flight”).
Sadly, a good many pubs in the Old Town have closed in the past ten or so years. The Cinque Ports remains, and it is a fantastic place to sit and rest after a day of wandering about Hastings and St. Leonards. To be honest, I am biased. The Cinque Ports has been one of my favorite Old Town hangouts for a decade or two. Always a great pint of Harvey’s Best.
