A rainy day in Gothenburg, Sweden πΈπͺ – 12 Night European Capitals cruise – Emerald Princess
It is quite windy today in Gothnberg, Sweden. Like the windmill, the turbine is really kicking ass, bro. And uh it is really pretty cold. It’s pretty cold out here today. I uh that that is the line for the that is a line for the shuttle that takes you into town. I guess I have to take that. But I’m going to get some breakfast first to hopefully this rain goes away but seems unlikely. All right. I got a feeling uh probably not going to be a great uh great one out there. But uh alas, alas, we’re in Sweden. What? First time ever, so we got to get out there. Second day in Scandinavia. Let’s go. Well, I got my waterproof North Face on. It’s time to go out into the rain rain zone. What a wonderful day out here today in Goththingberg, Sweden. But we are on the ground and uh Goththingberg Emerald Princess. Uh here’s the show. All right. In this scene, I lose my umbrella in five, four, three, two, one. Oh, she’s gone. Welcome to my Sweden vlog. It’s a Gotenborg. Sweden. Thank you. [Music] cruise ship uh terminal is a bit of a drive from the downtown city center. We’re on our way now. You can see there’s like oil pipelines, natural rock faces. See looks like a interstate city uh what do you call it? Freeway system. But uh yeah, lots of trucking of I think uh they’ve got a Volvo museum here. Must be uh must be headquartered here or something. Looks like we’re getting on the freeway here. [Music] rainy Scandinavian city of Gothberg. Pretty long tone. Oh [Β __Β ] Here we go. Got an office building up here. It’s pretty long bus ride. I think we’ve been in here for like 15 minutes so far. Yep. A rainy day in Goththingberg, Sweden. Or as the Swedes pronounce it, Goautyberg. Goberg. I don’t don’t quote me on this one. Uh Gyberg. But uh yeah, there’s a big ship over there. Quite the ride. We got some tall ships there in the background as I ride with the passengers from the Emerald Princess cruise ship on another $15 shuttle bus from the seapport area into the heart of God, Goththingberg, however you want to pronounce that. Oh, they got a real city down here. It’s the second biggest city in Sweden if I’m not mistaken. Population 680,000 in the urban area. It is quite a large city here. See the background here construction there. Lots of green. Lot of new structures going up here. Lots of bicycles and public transportation like uh a lot of the other European cities. Yeah. And here’s this giant mall that I spend most of my day. Uh I couldn’t pronounce many of these. [Music] I’m not even going to try. But uh yeah, a lot of voiceovers because the audio on this vlog was uh garbage. Getting [Music] into the proper city area here. This is a giant shopping mall to the left. There’s the police. Oh no, the police. I guess I get to hang out at the mall today. All the photos are [Music] the port area. You pretty you have to get out of there. And this is pretty far. or like 15 20 minute bus ride from uh the cruise ship terminal. It’s pretty major city. I think population 700. Like maybe this one’s 500,000. There’s a mall across the street. So check that out at the mall here in uh Goththingberg. It’s uh pretty packed. It’s awful outside. Yeah, not so bad in the mall. Uh it’s actually pretty large city. Pretty uh impressive downtown. [Music] Fortunately, they dropped us off here at this giant mall. Uh I don’t know where I’m going, per se, but uh guess I’ll wander around the shopping complex. Got a McDouble and a MC classic here at the Goththingberg. Goththingberg, Sweden. McDonald’s here over near the mall uh downtown in this big mall area. All right, here we go. So, uh I don’t know the significance. I’m assuming it’s like Pride Month here, but uh they have the rainbow flags everywhere. [Applause] I don’t know if it’s Pride month here or whatever, but uh they have the rainbow flags like poking everywhere. [Music] Holy [Β __Β ] Almost lost it again. This wind is intense. So this is the uh they call Goththingberg is supposedly like Amsterdam having a large canal system. Uh I’m on the bridge here. Missing the bus would be disastrous. Honey, we paid for this shore excursion. It’s nonrefundable. Doesn’t matter if it’s rain or shine. Just try to enjoy it. We’re like, we’re like, “Wow, this is some great weather today.” They’d be like, “This little Kraken guy, this looks like a church.” Uh, it’s a nice church. Wow, another beautiful uh church. This is pretty cool to preserve the root system of this tree. You can see they’re excavating here to do a electrical or plumbing or sewer fiber optics, whatever they’re running here. I think those are fiber optic. Yeah, on the surface. But uh look at how they uh protected the roots of the tree. They suspended them over an I-beam. They carefully wrapped them to protect them. I mean, randomly wandering around and I find this interesting structure. So, back to uh trace my steps over here. I have to walk all the way back down there to that museum and then make a right, I believe, without losing my umbrella. All right. So, this is a wine bar. Got a nice pride flag here. Uh, this building’s pretty cool. Let me check this out. So, this is like a this giant hall is like a wine hall. And uh I guess this is like what? Do build your own shuderie board in the uh wine place. They got like all these little wine bars in here. Cheese. You got some cheeses in here, sausage. You got your deli meats. You got your aged steaks. And uh you got a bakery. You got a bunch of fancy cheese. This place is really cool, bro. I guess I got to get a glass of wine here. the like shrimp shrimp sandwich with mayo is like a thing they specialty here. Got ro salmon mackerel. For some reason my phone the Samsung Galaxy 23 Plus did not record audio for these scenes either. So uh this is outside of the B bar. I was looking at the tabs here. Interesting tabs. Uh, I will go inside now for a delicious beer. I’m at this bar called The Bee or whatever. It’s a restaurant and I ordered this logger here. It is called Ericsburg. It’s uh I believe it’s from I asked for a local one. So, yeah, I don’t really know. Let’s give her a try. Oh, Carlsburg’s from Copenhagen. All right. I had a couple beers at the uh this restaurant bar/b bar called the B bar. And uh I’m learning uh so Goththingberg is known to be like a LGBTQ friendly uh city. You can see that’s why all these they have all these pride flags all over the place. But especially they have a giant pride festival in June called uh it’s called West Pride and it’s like a massive uh pride festival. So the weeks before that they dress the whole entire city up and all these pride flags. So the the the subways, the trams, like everything uh has all these the pride flags out. But uh it’s really windy and rainy today. So they’ve been getting all messed up as you can tell. But uh very cool liberal city here. I continue to wander around the rainy streets of Godberg and I find myself just wandering around. Uh something catches my attention here. Science fiction book handling. Uh it looks like a comic book store. Uh, turns out I found like a gaming store sells uh manga, anime, board games. Uh, being a nerd myself, I felt at home here. So, I uh had to go and explore this interesting science fiction store. a lot of c these espresso houses I’ve seen like in uh in Oslo and in uh Sweden there’s been a lot so it must be a popular franchise in Scandinavia. All right, my time in Goththingberg is almost up. Uh, it’s a little after 3 p.m. I believe I’m supposed to be on the bus by or I’m supposed to be on the boat by 5:00 PM, but it was confusing because the bus driver told me the last bus is at 6:00 p.m., which I mean, I guess the buses don’t run in accordance with the ship, so whatever, bro. But yeah, I’m going to I’m going to try to get back on the bus by 4. Well, I’ve made it back to uh the bus pickup area. You can see this uh canal area lined with the pride flags and the large clock tower building there. I don’t know if that’s a church or a museum or uh whatnot, but yeah, that’s I might see if I could hit up a bar before. So, we will see. Well, I’m back over near the mall. I’m going to cross the street and get on the bus and call it a day here. It’s uh it’s pretty much 400 p.m. So, I’m I think the last entrance onto the ship might be 5:00 p.m. It’s like 20 minute ride. All right. Oh [Β __Β ] the sun’s coming out. Oh no. As every time every time I’m in one of these Scandinavian countries, it rains all day and then as soon as I have to go Oh jeee, look at that. The sun came out. What do you think about that Amsterdam? Goneberg pigeon. It’s the the canals remind me of Amsterdam. It looks It just looks just like this. It’s beautiful. All right. I think I narrowed down my audio issues because I also had audio issues in Amsterdam when it was raining. So, it’s the moisture. Maybe my phone the humidity messes it up. Maybe I got moisture in the actual microphone. But, uh, yeah, same same audio issues in Amsterdam. Yeah, that’s I guess they probably couldn’t bring the ship into this port. I think under bridges and stuff. Oh, that’s right. They said it cuz they can’t get under the bridge. You’re right. That’s why they had to go 30 minutes outside. Look at that big old cruise ship. There’s a big cruise ship. You push a button. I can’t hang an They have like a smoke stack right downtown. Hotel. [Β __Β ] Look at that. Little fishing huts. Uhhuh. That’s what they or whatever. or whatever they call. They’re like little cottages. People apparently people from the city just go in there. They’re like that right there. Oh wow. I saw there was a little house in the wa in the water like Yeah. Oh yeah. That was the Oh, there’s a good view too on the other side. Yeah, the house in the water was the um harbor master or whatever that runs the light so they don’t hit the rocks. Yeah, that makes sense. You see our ship anywhere? No, but I see the Is that the reef one that we passed? Yeah, that’s that’s the one we That’s where we were right there a minute ago. The high up bridge. I’m surprised the ship can’t fit under that one. I know. Home sweet. Oh, yeah. After about a 20minut bus ride, we’re back at the majestic Emerald Princess cruise ship. Uh this is in the port of Godberg, Port of Goththingberg. Apparently, the ship wouldn’t fit under a bridge, so we had to dock here. Well, I’m about to get back on the boat, but as you can tell, it’s a really windy day here in Goththingberg. Uh it’s about it’s a little like 4:30. About to get back on the Emerald Princess. It was a little delayed getting off today cuz the wind was so bad. Uh they couldn’t get the uh they couldn’t they couldn’t stabilize like they couldn’t walk off the thing. So, uh they’re all set now. And uh ship’s leaving a little later than usual, but uh yeah, cool city. Definitely check it out. If I am not mistaken, it went to Oslo. Then it went to Goththingberg, Sweden. So, next stop should be Copenhagen, Denmark. Sailing towards Copenhagen. Yep. It’s 7:20 p.m. and the Emerald Princess slowly makes its way out of port here in Godberg, Godberg, Sweden. As we look at this amazing selection of tractor trailers here, these semi trucks shipping various products all over Scandinavia. She makes her way out of the harbor, the bay, whatever you want to call this body of water. Interesting little boats. And uh another interesting thing uh is the harbor masters in these waters. They have the uh houses just like directly out on the rocks. See, in this situation, I’m in the gym here at the Emerald Princess. I believe deck 16 that I’ve exercised at least once on this. Pretty sick. On my way back from the gym to my room, I notice and say, uh, it’s pretty chilly out here. But yeah, again, no audio. So, what a great vlog. Really interesting, right? Anyway, guys, thanks for watching and we’re on our way to Copenhagen, a much less rainy, much more interesting city. Check it out, dude. It’s going to be good. All right, we are officially sailing towards Copenhagen, Denmark. Let’s go. Shoot.
I walk with an umbrella in the rain as I explore Gothenburg, Sweden. I go to the mall, have a bier, and proceed to absorb as much moisture as possible. Scandinavia, what can you do?
