TOP 10 THINGS To Do, See & Eat in Düsseldorf, Germany! 🇩🇪

Disseldorf is a city in Germany that we chose to live in. We often have my family and friends from the US visiting us and Phil’s family and friends visiting from other parts of Germany. After living here for over 3 years, here are our top things to do, see, and eat in Disseldorf, Germany. Grind Proomenade. I wanted to start here because it’s one of my favorite things about living in the city. I love seeing and being by water and there are so many restaurants where you can enjoy a drink or a meal by the river. Phil usually goes for a fish bin or some type of pork sandwich while I tend to grab a German bakery item to enjoy by the water. It’s a great area to walk along or you can get a boat tour to ride along the river. There are a lot of events that pop up here during the nicer weather months like French food festivals, monthly book markets, music events, some drone shows, and Christmas market stalls during the season. During the summer, I love to go to the Tonhala and sit and watch the sunset over the river. Oldtown. The Altat is the city center. The historic Oldtown or Altat is full of narrow streets where you can shop, eat, drink, and club. If you are into beer, you have to try an alt beer at one of the beer gardens. Alt beer is the city specialty that comes in these small glasses. Fun tip, at a beer garden, the server will usually continue to bring more albeer out until you place the coaster on top of your glass. Be careful. These glasses may be small, but it’s easy to drink a lot. If you are at a beer garden, there are some classic German beer garden foods like a schwin saxer, schnitle, or regional variations of a zhaen. Carl’s Plats is also here in the old town. It’s a permanent market that has a lot of flower stalls, fresh bakeries, and food stalls. My favorite bakery in the city is just around the corner from here. It’s called Hinkle, and there’s often a line, but it moves fast and is totally worth it. So many bread and bakery items to choose from. I personally love a noose eka, which translates to nut corner. And mm, it’s so good. Since Dudeldov’s Altra is known as the longest bar in the world due to the high concentration of over 300 bars, pubs, clubs, and restaurants, we personally avoid this area on a Friday and Saturday night unless we want to be in the partying crowd. This party street attracts people from neighboring cities and countries. It can get a little messy and sketchy at times, but if you’re into it, go for it. Orion Tower. If you like elevated views, this is perfect to get a good overview of the entire city. There is an elevator that takes you up to the observation platform and you can see many of the city districts along the river. If it’s a nice day, we highly, highly recommend doing this. And this is where we usually take visitors who enjoy higher vantage points. Plus, there’s even a cafe up here to enjoy a nice cafe unuhan break. Media Hava. If you are over here, it is worth to check out the median hoffen, an urban quarter with the city’s docks and a lot of commercial and industrial buildings. This area used to be an old commercial harbor that has been transformed by modern and unique architectural buildings. This area is home to many companies today, so on the weekends, it’s pretty quiet, but still fun to walk around and enjoy. Shopping. From designer brands to popular retailers to secondhand shops, you can find a lot of shopping pockets throughout the city, the Kunuk Salet is one of the most famous shopping streets in the city due to the amount of designer shops and luxury brands, plus the beautiful landscaped canal that runs along the center. Local tip, if you go up to the higher floors of Talia’s bookstore, you can get a nice view of the street and it’s a fun people watching spot here. Little Tokyo drizzled off. It is hard to mention this city without mentioning the area around the Imamstrasa which is one of the largest Japanese communities in Europe with a lot of Japanese businesses, hotels, supermarkets and most importantly restaurants. This area has expanded to the surrounding streets where you can find a lot of Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian restaurants as well. It is hard for me to recommend just one restaurant in this area and we probably haven’t even tried half of them. Although I have enjoyed some of the Japanese style rice bowls at Teso. Dong Woo has a great Chinese eggplant variation and Takumi is very good for ramen, but I personally prefer not to wait in those long long lines. This area can get very busy on the weekends and it’s common to see lines out the door for some of these restaurants. We recommend going for an early lunch or dinner during the week to avoid the crowds. Museums. There are a lot of museums and theaters in Dudeldorf. Museums are perfect for rainy and bad weather days, and trust me, odds are you will get one. There are a ton of museums, theaters, and exhibitions depending on your interests. If you are into art, the KST Museum is a good one. And if you’re on a budget, there are a ton of free museums like this theater museum that is open every Sunday free of admission. The so-called Memorial Disorf in the Alchat is also free. Also, there’s an old retro car museum that I really want to visit, but we haven’t made it there yet, and it’s completely free. I’ve heard good things from car enthusiasts. Outside of the city center, if you have the time, we recommend seeing other areas of the city, like the western area of Uba Castle. It is across the river with many upscale residential neighborhoods and great views of the old town. The Japanese Eco House is located over here with a traditional Japanese temple and gardens. A bit further south along the rine will bring you to the popular palace Schllo Benrat or you can go east of the city center to the wild park to see some animals or north towards the north park for nature and more Japanese gardens. Even further up north along the river is Kaisers which features some historic ruins right next to the river Rin and it is one of the local highlights. further support us, you can do that at patreon.com/denn and Phil. Look up ahead of time to see what events are happening during your trip. There are a lot of food festivals and events in the city. For example, around the end of February and early March, it’s carnival time in Disseldorf and Cologne. It’s a weekendl long celebration with lots of costumes, parades, and drinking. So much drinking. Also, in April, there’s usually Japan Day, which attracts over half a million visitors to the city for Japanese culture, food, and performances. In July every year, the Rin Kermis is here. It’s an epic large fair full of food stalls, rides, and games. I always get a langosh, which is a Hungarian dish. And this fried dough is m so good. In August, there is often a gourmet food festival along the Kunix LA with tons of international food and drinks to choose from. And of course, in late November and early December, the Christmas markets start popping up around the city where you can enjoy charming Christmas stalls and vibes in the city. There’s nothing quite like a warm cup of glue vine to warm your hands. Enjoy the city. As people who have lived here for several years now, we are still finding more activities and events to do. We personally love just walking around the city. There are plenty of parks, cafes, and streets to walk around. If you’re into bird watching, the city is buzzing during the spring months. I love popping into random bakeries and grabbing a pastry to enjoy at the park. And if you’re comfortable with city biking, renting a bike or a scooter is a great way to see more of the city. And there are bike paths for just that on most streets. Deanna’s favorite activities. Because the weather is so volatile in Drizzledorf, I try to enjoy the sunshine as much as possible. So, like we mentioned previously, I love hanging out by the rind prominade, biking through the city, and enjoying the sunshine. When the weather is nice, I do enjoy going to Paradis Strand, which is a popular sandy beach on the Rine. It’s a nice place to escape the city and a good spot to meet up with friends for a picnic. As someone who doesn’t love crowds, I try to avoid the city center during the busy weekends. I love walking around the city parks and adding new bird sightings to our lists. Yes, we’ve become those bird people in the last few years. And when the weather is rainy, cold, and gray, which it is often, we resort to indoor activities. And fortunately, the city has a decent amount like bowling, indoor mini golf, and my personal favorite, karaoke. We recently did karaoke when my sister and her partner visited us. It’s a fun group activity and a way to escape that nasty weather. Phil’s favorite activities. I would say the abundance of food options is my favorite thing. If you visit, try a German haka and a good Duna kebab. I also really like heights and viewing points. So, the tower is a mustdo. And I hate to say it, but the geographical location of Disseldorf is also great because you can visit other places like Cologne in 30 minutes where we always take visitors to check out the famous cathedral. The Netherlands are under an hour away and major cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, De or Brussels are each under 3 hours away. So, they are still in dayrip range. Aside from that, nothing in Dudeldof stands particularly out, but it is the availability of so many things that make this city great. Now, of course, there are a ton more things you can do in the city, especially when you have more time. This is just what we recommend and usually do with people who are visiting for a limited time. What is your favorite this is the best part of this side of the river. Look at all these sheep. Look at them. They’re so cute. They’ve moved them from section to section often to kind of naturally mow this grass. Yeah, they move them around. You can see all the kaka cot. I think kot is animal poop in German. I got I can’t remember. You kiss my kaka.

  1. I spent 2 days in this city last September. Shopping and eating are my favorite things to do! My sister was with me for our self-styled tour of Western Germany: Frankfurt – Koblenz – Cologne – Dusseldorf – Munster- Frankfurt. All by train or bus!

  2. So happy you included Classic Remise. It is fantastic, for a car entusiast like me. I have been there almost 10 times during the years. Always make a stop when driving from Sweden to Nurburgring. As you said free entrance. They also have a restaurant an a cafè. So you can film there, and sample the food. Altough I have to say the Motorworld in Köln have better food. You should really film at both locations. Especially Köln with the lovely Michael Schumacher exihibition. As always a great film.

  3. Ist da in eurem turm auch so ein drehendes cafè wie es früher im Hamburger fernsehturm war ???
I meine wär cool ,denn das vermisse i seid es geschlossen wurde vor Jahren.
Ps: klein Japan interessiert mich sehr, möchte i unbedingt sehen mal^&

  4. The former Parlament is converted into a modern Art Museum K21 even if you are not an Art Enthusiast the architecture of the Museum is great, go to the Top of the building it has a glass rooth that offers great views outside., in the cellar there is a Window looking into the lake next to the Museum sometimes the swans on the lake watch the Museum visitors 😂
