WEIRD thing Japan is Blaming Tourists for

japan is blaming foreigners for this problem right now it’s super cheap to travel to Japan and that means tourists are coming in droves and while there are some people who behave badly Japan is also blaming foreigners for this weird issue i can’t make this up they think we’re eating too much Japanese food japan is going through a big shortage in rice japanese people eat rice with just about every meal but there’s this media narrative that foreigners are buying up and eating all the rice now as the whitest American in Japan who eats other things besides rice I haven’t bought rice in a long time and I just can’t imagine tourists shoving bags of rice into their carry-on luggage but it’s not just rice Japanese people are complaining about in Kyoto tourists completely bought out stores selling matcha tea in less than 15 minutes after opening so Japanese people are holding a grudge against foreigners that don’t leave any product for locals to buy and driving up prices with the high demand and unlike the rice I think this matcha example is totally on the tourists while I do think that completely buying out stores is a bit selfish I hope foreigners don’t become the scapegoat for every problem in Japan so what do you think

Is this blame on tourists to Japan justified?

  1. If I recall correctly, individual businesses and towns can vote to deny non-Nipponese the right to occupancy, residency, and currency. If they didn't want the Macha bought up, the owner could just tell you not to come.

  2. "i hope foreigners won't be blamed for every problem in japan"
You mean as they already have and are ? Or you mean like the koreans and most notably chineses have been blamed for any and all events that displeases the japanese population ?
I love japan and the culture don't get me wrong, but i feel people tend to focus on the anime kawaï shit and forger japan in one of the most far right country with some of the scandinavians and used to be a bloody (literally) empire like their koreans and Chinese neighbors

  3. i hate that you have very little understanding about the rice issue, yet making it sound like they are personally blaming you and the "whitest americans".
The truth is various factors but a CERTAIN GROUP of ethnicity is reselling rice for profit.

  4. I am a big time Robert E. Howard fan and usually limit my comic buying of Conan the Barbarian comics. Not only because of money reasons, but I don't want to be the guy who buys an entire shipment of a product.

  5. I don’t think you understand — they’re blaming foreign countries for buying up all the rice, but that’s not really the issue. The real problem is Japanese companies choosing to sell to those countries for higher profits.

  6. No they blaming the rice problem on Chinese tourists… due the Chinese don’t take care of there rice to point they are afraid to eat it.. so they buy Japanese rice to take home or eat a lot in Japan

  7. As a Japanese person, I don’t look Japanese I got my moms genes who is mixed, I grew up eating Japanese foods and my mom did buy stuff like pickled radish, and rice because it was cheaper there, and it is disappointing for westerners to tend to do weird tourist stuff. But even so people do glamorize Japan a lot and ignore its faults.

  8. Hey I’m a Japanese and I want to tell you something. For the part about the rice, seriously no one in Japan is blaming the visitors. Last thing if you’re traveling just respect that country. That woman was on a “Torii” a thing in a SHRINE that is believed to be separating gods and us!!!! It’s so frustrating for the people in any country to be disrespected especially with religion.

  9. tbf i cant get to point a to point b in my home town bc is such a tourists so in a way i can relate, theyre loud and dont respect their surroundings.

  10. Every country with a government that wants zero accountability and total control will blame foreigners. America, UK, Japan, to name a few recently. This is going missing? Uh—uhh foreigners!! Wasn’t Japan also blaming foreigners for broken down parts of the country, saying it was left broken as a result of tourists not coming to the broken down parts of the country? Lmfao

  11. Yes, I don’t know how much a ticket cost, but I really wanna go there. The food actually makes me wanna eat some of it. I really picky eater the point that the only vegetable I like is green beans and the places you can go look beautiful and the prices are actually cheap, which is rare for anything United States of America. It’s extremely expensive. Oh you want something from the dollar tree to pay five dollars for a small doll house is like the size of your palm yeah kinda got ripped in America OK sorry if I said anything inappropriate bye

  12. Bro THE main complaint of foreigners is that they're bored of eating rice all the time. If they're gonna make stuff up, maybe DON'T do the ones that are the exact opposite? It's like if Indonesians are blaming foreigners from their chili shortage
