INSIDE THE BIGGEST SLUM IN THAILAND

Oh my God guys, now look at this one, actually this is their house where around 1 lakh people live within 1 km. Can you believe? Look at this garbage, how it is spread here. So on one hand, where you will find Thailand full of richness, you will also find Thailand like this. One of the biggest and largest slums of the whole of Bangkok and Thailand is also present in this area. Look here, someone is lying down. Lying like this. This is a girl, and that too, friend. I saw a lot of people inside the entire city center, it is very congested. I mean, if my head moves here and there, then it can hit my head. This brother is saying that you can go ahead from here. I don’t know whether it is safe or not. Now you can see the condition of the houses. Brother, here I saw some people with tattoos all over their body and were also staring at me. They must be around 80 to 90 years old. And you can see live how risky it is to live here. Even just now the train passed and look here all the children are playing football and volleyball here. Where has Thailand reached? Where has Bangkok reached? But this part is still the same. The rich keep getting richer. The poor remain poor. Good afternoon and welcome back to the new blog. I am Vansh and right now I am in Klong Toei Neighborhood of Bangkok city, the capital of Thailand. That is, a neighborhood which is also called one of the most dangerous neighborhoods of the whole of Bangkok and the whole of Thailand. In a way, one of the biggest and largest slums of the whole of Bangkok and Thailand is also present in this area. I have actually come here to cover it . This section is called Klong Toei area, where I am right now. And it is also called one of the most feared slums. And even the local people are hesitant to come here. Now I don’t know whether it is right for me to go here or not and I also don’t know how safe it is. But for now, in this video, I am going to show you all, you can say, one of the biggest and largest slum areas of the whole of Bangkok and Thailand as well, which is present here in Klongtoi. Where around 1 lakh people live within 1 km. Can you believe how 1 lakh people are living in 1 km. And this district is also called one of the most richest districts and one of the most poor districts of Bangkok. The Klongtoi area. So let’s see, this video is going to be very interesting and today’s Thailand, especially Bangkok, the rapid development that you are seeing has happened only from this district and this place where I have come at the present time . So it has a very deep history and interesting facts. I had heard a lot about this place that people live in a very small space here. Almost similar to our city Mumbai in India where you will find one of the richest people and one of the most forested people. This Klong Toei Bangkok neighborhood is similar to this one where I am walking right now. You will find a mix of both lifestyles here and it is also said that the living style of the people living here is less than $1 or $2 per day. So you can guess from this how much they must be earning here. So you just saw what kind of area it was outside. So the houses etc. here are like this. You can see. I think 6/6 5/5 10/10 9/9 You will find all such houses here. And there are many different lanes like this. See, this is a lane. Now I will almost keep walking on this lane. You will find different sections here. There are small shops here which are useful for shopping by the local people living in this area. Look, these are people’s houses here. These small children. Hello hello, small children are very cute. Apart from this, you see, there are desks etc. here and a mess of wires and look, they have also set up a small shop here in the middle of this footpath. Apart from this, there is a lot of dirt here. People eat, drink, live, sleep, wash, everything at some place. So some people have made their sing area here. There is a road, actually you can see the whole road. Oh, now look at this house, it belongs to someone and there is a very big TV inside. Uncle and grandmother are sitting inside. And they are watching TV. Actually the TV is very big. And mostly everyone’s houses have a proper shutter here because of safety and security . And here also you can see small temples like this You will find them. Here also, these people do puja and rituals. Now see, there is a lane here. If I go here, there is a lane here. I am feeling a little scared . But right now, I think maximum people you see are either resting or sleeping inside the house. They are doing something or the other. This is also someone’s house. At many places, I have seen that here, there are washing machines etc., a separate area has been made for cleaning and dry cleaning. So, I think in this section, this is the area where people must be bringing their clothes to this shop and getting them washed. That is why all these washing machines etc. are kept here. Wow, here also everyone has different numbers. You can see this as the post office of the house to send mail to all of them. The entire wooden shed is tin on top . You see, this is the tin part and the entire house below is made using wood . And maximum here, since cars cannot come, everyone generally has two wheelers, see, maximum Honda cars, you will find a lot of Honda cars. Both these cars in front are Honda cars and this one is also Honda. And look, people have collected the household waste and kept it here. It seems like ants are there. And brother, the sound of the dog is also coming. Some houses are very neat, very clean and very organized. Look, people have also put flower pots etc. here. And here, like this, transformers etc. are also here. And each house has its own electric meter for electricity supply, it is stalled here like this. And see, the uncles are working here in this manner because there is no path, so the stuff, etc. for house construction, bricks, etc., they are taking them in the same way after washing, using the hand cart because there is no space here, no space at all, hello, he is a very cute child, friend, see, yes, here also his grandmother, I think, is lying down, taking rest. So see, whatever small space they have, here somewhere a helmet is hanging. Somewhere this doli (palanquin), doli (dolchi) of theirs, is kept like this. See, here, I think a house is being constructed. Because of this, this area has become a little congested. Oh my God guys, now look at this one, actually this is a house, all these people have houses and this is the area around the house where these people live, I still can’t believe it, look at this in front, there is someone’s house next to it and you can see the condition below the house, all this garbage is lying here and a terrible smell is also coming from it. I think I will not be able to stand here for long. But I will literally show you. And if you look inside also, there is a lot of water below. Actually the sewage water falls at this place. I am not able to understand how their washroom etc. would be there. But you can see the area here. Oh, so there is also a small restaurant for food and drinks. Hello. So look, this is a proper small restaurant for food and drinks, I think they have opened their restaurant etc. inside the house itself . These local people must be coming here to eat and drink. Look, if I go ahead here, this is a street. If I go ahead here, this is a street in front. If I go ahead here, a street starts here . Everywhere, you will keep going to one street or the other. In a way, it is also a kind of maze. If you do not know the way, then you can also get lost here . This area is spread over only 200 acres, but around 1 lakh people live here. And literally when you will come, I was thinking that there will be a lot of crowd. But I think it is daytime. Because of this, all the people are either resting inside or all the people here have gone to work. And the rest are these small cute children. See, it is good. But in some places in the outside area , cleanliness is good. But generally , you will find a lot of dirt here in the outside area and the parts outside the house . Well, the little smell is also coming quite strong from some parts. There is a small, very cute shop here too. Everywhere, there are many shops in between like this. There are shops. If you want to purchase drinks, beverages, etc., food items, then you can purchase them here. I think there is a cafe inside here. If you want to eat or drink something, you can come here and eat or drink. Look, if we leave from here, there is a small lane from here. But the good thing is that you can see everywhere here because it is a very congested area. So once there was a very big fire here. So because of that, for safety security, this kind of fire gas system has been properly installed here. This place also has a very interesting history. That is, this Klong Tatoy area was around 1930 to 1950 when Bangkok needed development, the government here announced that if all the people from Thailand and its neighbouring countries come and live in this area in search of work, then wherever they find vacant government land, they can build houses and live there without any payment. Because of this, people from different districts, different provinces of the entire Thailand country and also from Burma and Cambodia started coming and living here. And around 1950, when actually a lot of investment was made here in Thailand , the foreign investment was very high. From 1950 to 1980, in this area of Bangkok and in the entire Thailand country. So at that time, a lot of labour was used at the cheapest rate from this area because this Klong Toei, Klong Toei also means Bangkok port, that is, this is the name of the entire area, due to which you will find all this here and from 1950 to 1980, it was a time when the most rapid development was seen in the whole of Bangkok, where the cheapest labour was distributed from this place to the whole country and at one time this Klong Toei, that is, the port of Bangkok, used to be one of the busiest ports in the world and especially for Thailand, where around 98% of the import and export of the whole of Thailand used to go through all these places, this Mao Mao Mau Mau, so this is a small shop of the mamas and here also if you want to eat something, I think street food, etc., then you can eat here. This is also a small shop. I think there is a grocery store here. Bread O Your Name B B O But mostly you will find people of old age here. There is a married grandmother sitting very cutely. I think this is grandmother’s house. You guys almost guess the age of grandmother. I think she must be around 80 to 90 years . And still I think this is her small shop. She is selling wood etc. here. And this is her house where she lives completely. See there is a bed in front. Here is her sofa. In front there is TV, refrigerator, chair and tiles are installed below. And the upper part of the verandah is mostly made of stone and wood in this entire part. Rest of the electricity supply etc. is proper. Now I don’t know from where the water etc. comes. But here you will get to see grandmother. See here also I got to see a small temple like this. There is another lane here. If I go from here then there is another lane. Some parts are quite congested . You see this. Now if I pass through all these lanes, it is very congested. I mean if my head moves here and there, then these pointed tin sheds can hit my head. Apart from this, I am sweating a lot here. You can see there is humidity. But I am still surprised. But one thing you notice is that all the houses inside are very clean. I mean whatever little space they have inside, but that too is very well organized and well maintained . Outside itself, due to less space, it is congested and you will get to see some problems here . Bhai sahib, you will feel a little congested in all these areas. There is water filled here. Either it has rained or the water from the nearby houses is lying down. It is a complete maze. So look here, some people are drying clothes on the electric pole like this. People have made small singa arrangements like this in their houses because there is not much space, so they come and rest here. Apart from this, the water supply is through this tap here and look, there is a lock on it as well. I think this must be from the government. I am feeling very congested. I was sweating so much inside that I could not bear it. But you can see for yourself here friend. And I think there is a mosque right next to it. You see this. This is a mosque here. So the people who live inside, actually I have told you that there are many people here who can earn only one or two dollars per day and many people do not even have jobs here. Some people earn money by fighting roosters etc. Some people do their business here by selling narcotic drugs. And there are different parts. There are different areas. This whole area is actually divided into two to three different parts. The whole Klong Toei is like one, Block One, Block Two, Block Three and similarly Block Four, Block Five, Block Six, these are divided into two parts and one is 70 RI, this whole area is divided into two main sections and you see, I have just come out from this part, so this is the railway track crossing here and from where actually the port authority, that is, the port of Bangkok here, its goods used to pass through this track, so this is the local life around it where all these people live around the tracks. This is a little girl, friend, she is calling me. Hello, how are you? What is your name? My name is. Do you speak English? That’s nice. So you are from here? Where is your home? Your house. Where is your house? Yes, here. I think this is a little girl. Now what is she doing here, I don’t know, but sitting here she was trying to call me in a very easy way and she is so shy, she is feeling shy. So if you look at this entire land and area, it all comes under the Port Authority. But there are many people here who we call mafia. They have occupied this place and in this way they build small tin houses and rent them out to people and charge them 100 baht to 200 baht as monthly rent. So you will get to see this and there are many houses which local people have been living in for 100 years and they have built and maintained them. So this was the whole history. Once we go inside, I will show you the rest of the section of this entire area . Look how the cat is sitting here above. Brother, it is also a member here. So the area where I am right now, this entire Klongtoi area , is called one of the most densely populated areas of the whole of Bangkok . And around 13% of the total population of Bangkok earns around 1 to $5 per day here. This is their only income here. You will get to see this here. There are many nice small shops like this here. Oh thank you Dadi yaar. How smiling, how cute. Beautiful. And from India Mumbai. Indu, I am a Dadi. Well, look at the Dadi people, their food shops and all the basic things used in the house, all of them are here, toffees, chocolates, other beverages include cold drinks etc. Now if you want anything else, look, there is beer etc. You will get all this food and drink here. I think this is their family photo. You will notice one more thing here. In most of the houses, you will find family photos and photos of kings and queens everywhere. Rest of these are some local items, maximum items are made in Thailand and many items are made in China and all the stuff is imported from different neighbouring countries . Hey brother, these pigeons are parrots here. Wow, Mitthu is meowing, oh friend, it is a parrot, isn’t it? Wow , let me walk through this area and show you, in some places there is too much dirt, too much stench and too much smell. I don’t know how all these people are living here. You can also see the lifestyle here. Why is this considered the worst area? You will be able to see it when you come here. [Music] This go no oh oh , this area is very congested. I think I should leave from here. This this oh, so this brother is saying that you can go ahead from here . I don’t know if it is safe or not. But to show you, I am passing through all these areas. You can see this, literally people live in all these areas brother. People have houses where people are living. Now you can see the condition of the houses. The doors of the houses, the outside part is broken everywhere. But then People are living here like this. I am seeing a lot of mosquitoes here . You can see all that here. But people also have temples etc. here. Look at this section, like now the person whose house it is, has proper AC etc. installed. There is a fan, there is a cooler installed. You will find some houses here that are quite good. Garbage is lying everywhere like this on the road at different places . I think dustbins have not been installed here. Brother, I saw some people here with tattoos all over their body and were also staring at me. That is why I am not trying to record them. Who knows they might follow me. And in these streets, everyone had forbidden me that locals should not walk like this. But still, as much as I have been roaming around, I did not get to experience anything like this or I did not feel any fear that I might get into trouble. But you can see people’s houses and homes here. Brother, it is something like this. Guys, the total population of Thailand is around 71 or 72 million, out of which more than 40 million underage people are working here, who start working even at the age of less than 15 years. Can you believe? Yes. That means around 40% of the population of the whole country is where you will find under 18 people working . The below poverty line of the whole country of Thailand is around 7.5%. You can say around 7.5% which you will find in the whole of Thailand . And you will also find a lot of label force here when you come here. See, there is no road here but these people drive their scooty here. This is because it is the area with tracks. All the houses that are on the side of the railway track, you can understand that all these houses are illegal. And see, there is fencing net in all of them for safety security so that no one does theft etc. inside. [Music] So you can see live yourself how risky it is to live here, even if the train just passed by and look here all the children are playing football and volleyball here . So this is the challenge and this is the difficulty of the local people living in such areas which the local people normally face every day. So life is not that easy here. You can see it yourself. Grandma is sitting in front. She has a small house at her home. It is a small area. But even in that she is drying her clothes . She is cooking food. All this business work etc. is happening here in whatever space she has got . I walked inside for half an hour to one to two hours and I am feeling so much heat on my whole face that I will not be able to stay inside for long. Because of this I am coming out again and again. But you think what would be the lifestyle of the local people who live here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year . So now I have just come to the outside part of this slum area. So here is a very big bridge over which vehicles are passing. And in the lower part here you can see that you will see a lot of vehicles parked. So this is the whole area where local people and people from outside park their vehicles in these areas. So this is also a completely illegal area where local people park their vehicles in this way . Now see how the garbage is spread here. So on one hand Thailand is full of prosperity and on the other hand you will also find Thailand like this. You can see brother where all the garbage is dumped here like this and in such conditions, you can guess for yourself what would be the lifestyle of the children living here . As I said, the labor force in the entire Bangkok city is around 40%. That means you will find people below the age of 15 or 18 working here . Well, employment has improved a bit in Thailand now. That means it is not that there is lack of employment in the whole country. Another good thing is that if we look at the positive side, even the youngest people, whether male or female, can be seen working. And one more thing you have to notice here, in other cities and other countries, people can be seen begging. In Thailand, you will hardly see this in maximum. I have observed this also till now. Now you must be thinking that why did I come to this area? People from all over the world come and go to see such a nice Thailand to show different things. So I specially came to this area to see different things. Why did it come to the area? So the main reason behind it is that today’s Thailand, today ‘s Bangkok, the rapid development of the entire country that you are seeing, if seen in reality, the people living in all these areas, their ancestors, that is, the fourth fathers, who gave their full contribution to Thailand and this port of Bangkok from 1930 to 1940, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 20, where there was a lot of foreign investment and all these people have worked together in this rapid development that took place in Bangkok. Where has Thailand reached? Where has Bangkok reached? But this part is still the same . So it is the same as it is said about every country that the rich keep getting richer . The poor remain poor. Literally, after coming to this place in Bangkok in Thailand, you will also feel that those who worked the hardest, who contributed the most in development, are the ones who are lagging behind the most today. No one is there to ask about them. No one is there to take care of them. There are some organizations here. When I entered the slum , there are foundations, some organizations that are helping these people a little . But still all this is almost negligible. Because there is lack of education here. There is lack of medication. There is lack of electricity, there is so much lack of water sanitization . There is so much dirt inside. You will find many people using drugs here. There is no work. Someone keeps playing games . Someone keeps playing something or the other like this. These people are supporting their families by doing some small work. So this is the reality of the richest neighborhood of Bangkok, the capital of the most tourist friendly country Thailand . Yes, this area where I am walking is called one of the richest neighborhoods. Can you believe it? But in this part of it, which is called the dark side of Bangkok, very few people will be able to show it to you. International tourists will not come here soon. Some people like us, YouTubers like us, are showing such things that you can see behind me, flies are buzzing here. There is so much dirt. There is so much stench and people are living here. Look, this is all a parking area. People have private and personal parking for their cars. They have made it here. Some people might be living here illegally. Some people might be living legally. But you will get to see it here. And one more thing I noticed is that in Thailand, a lot of old age people don’t have houses etc. so I noticed that you will find them living on the road, even in the main city center. For example, look at this uncle, his leg is broken but you will find these people on the road outside restaurants in the city. I think this is a complete garage area where vehicles are parked and also repaired. In all these areas. You see this. So outside the track, this was the entire area where I had taken you a while ago. So this was the part from where we had started our video. Inside this part, there is a railway crossing. So this is its landmark. As soon as you go inside, you can enter the Krong Toei area. And here when you come out, you will find all the Port Authority Customs Department of Thailand in Bangkok here. [Music] [Music] Now you can see this, just look here in front, someone is lying down. He is lying like this. Now I don’t know what happened to him but he is lying like this. Look. This is a girl and she is also there. So in this way I saw many people in the entire city center who are homeless and are somehow managing to survive in this way. Well, this was the dark side of Bangkok, guys, Thailand. So in this way , some people living in all these areas here earn their livelihood by putting up carts etc. [Praise] And why was I calling this area that it is also called the rich side of the area and district. If I zoom in and show you a little, then look at the building here . Look at the floor. All the big banks, government offices, big super malls and high rise apartments, you will find all of them in this area only. If I zoom in a little bit on this section and then a little further 500 If I walk for a meter, then after parking there is a very big shopping mall. All these high rise buildings that you see, all of them come within the Khlong Toei district. So you can see for yourself how much difference there is. Within these 500 meters, 1 km radius, you will get to see all this difference. [Praise] So friend, while walking, I have now reached this bus stand. I am sweating a lot. I have drunk water twice. There is so much humidity. Dehydration is very common here in all South East Asian countries. So technically, the rapid development that happened in Bangkok happened during the 1980s. [Music] Bapa tatha pa so friend guys, it is around 4:00 in the evening and after exploring that whole area again, I have come back to my posting place. So if we talk about the overall experience, my motive to show you all this place was to see how the life of the local people is here, in what situation and under what circumstances are the people living here and if we talk about the positive side of this place, then it is that there is so much lack of resources, lack of so many things there, whether it is education, medical system, hospitality, sanitization, employment, despite all this, the patience level of the people you must have seen here is of the next level. The smile on their faces, the joinness, the happiness is of the next level. That means, despite having so little in their life, the unity that is there, when you go to such areas, you will get to see it in abundance. Which I think no matter how rich you become, what standard of life you live, how much you are filled with richness. But if you do not have all these things in you, especially patience, common sense, respectful towards all communities, then I think all that money and status becomes useless. So all these things, especially when you go to all these areas, you get to learn a lot from there, which was my aim to show you the positive side of Bangkok Thailand and the negative side of Bangkok Thailand, that is, the dark and sad and reality, I had to show you all those things through this video. So I hope you enjoyed the whole video. How did you like the overall video? Do share your feedback in the comments below. And how did you like this entire area? How did you like the local people here?
