*About me:*
Iโ€™m Olga โ€” a long-term expat and remote worker with a bachelorโ€™s degree in Economics & Management. I help EU citizens and non-EU retirees relocate to Bulgaria โ€” from choosing the right city and applying for residency to finding a comfortable rental and registering for taxes.
If you’re looking for a lower-tax, lower-stress lifestyle in Europe, Bulgaria might be the right fit.
Over the last 10 years, Iโ€™ve lived in Turkey, Portugal, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Georgia, Albania, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. After years of trial and error across continents, my husband and I finally settled in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2024. It offered the right balance: infrastructure, affordability, and long-term stability inside the EU.
If youโ€™re feeling stuck in research mode, youโ€™re not alone. Iโ€™m here to help you move forward with confidence.

  2. I'd say even if you decide to not stay do enjoy the time you spend it here. Other cities around bulgaria do have quite to offer when it comes to having fun or site seeing. Some cities have quite fair prices. Some places on our black sea are expensive, but quite a lot of spots are really fair prices and really cheap for some, you just need to know where to go so do ask around or do your own realsearch, a lot of people will be happy to help out to make sure your stay hwre is comfortable. Also yeah we are no Mediterranean but I think we do have some black sea spots that look quite nice and beautiful in their own little way.
Thank you for considering our country as a nice place to stay for a while.

  3. Olga, you're already 20% Bulgarian, I see ๐Ÿ™‚ Most Bulgarians also prefer staring the car and going to the mediterranean sea ๐Ÿ˜€ Definitely more blue there. However not sure if you saw the European Environment Agency came up with the "European bathing water quality 2024" study and it basically said that the top 3 bathing quality countries in Europe are 1. Cyprus 2. Bulgaria 3. Greece (in that order). Quite shocking.

  4. In Sofia now:
cons – rude people – nobody smiles, nobody is polite, relatively high grocery prices, high dining prices – I found it more expensive to eat out here than in Spain
pros – great food, lots of green spaces in Sofia, decent and cheap transportation infrastructure, nearby mountains, cheap accomodation
overall – definitely not my kind of place but glad it suits you! As they say to each their own ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. 30-40 restaurants in Sofia. Where I am located it cost me 5 Euro just for a main dish. And if I go to the most fancies place around here it will cost me 10 Euro may be 15.Rent will be 200 euro City center . ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. โ€˜Everything is in Cyrillicโ€™! It doesnโ€™t matter, even if Bulgarian was written in Latin, your husband and you still could not understand it!๐Ÿ˜Š

  7. Can anyone tell me the monthly budget on which 2 people can retire in the villages around Burgas please ๐Ÿ™? Do not include rent in the estimate. Ty

  8. I find it so interesting that people in the migration office do not speak English. It seems like that should be the place where they should speak English, unless they only want to focus on people relocating back to Bulgaria from abroad. I am from the EU and will move to Bulgaria at the end of this month. Is it possible to deal with the migration office via Google Translate or other apps, or should I find a local translator to accompany me?

This was an interesting video. Thank you for sharing all the information!

  9. I am not agree about the hotels at the sea cities. In Italy the hotels offer small rooms and you can not find a hotel room with a fridge. It is scandalous when we talk about the summer season, right? Maybe you need to visit other part of the cities where the vibe is different, because as in other countries, there are places for families, places for young people etc…. ๐Ÿ˜Š
I find this video useful, but you really spend a lot. Bulgarian people have the half or your outcome, as you told, the salaries are also the half of these to other eu countries.๐Ÿ˜ข
