Gran bel video!!
2:48 Scary with a chapel at the station. A short prayer before departure! Just to be sure.
What a great trip, from dawn to dusk, departing before sunrise and arriving after sunset, from southern tip in Mainland Italy into Northern part of Italy below the Alps using High Speed Train on Second highest class in this train, hope I have a chance to try this. It's a great to mention that Reggio Calabria seeing plenty of Long Distance Train, even Frecciarossa have number of service to others cities as well from this city. Bit curious about how many passenger who taking full trip (beside you) and comparing with passengers who only taking some sections of the route, which one is higher?
That quiet car logo on the window is unnecessary and blocks the view.
Last year I was robbed shortly after detraining at Rome Termini. The theives got my passport.
Well done! Milan is one of the cities I'd plan to visit. The station itself interests me because I hear the artwork and sculptures are amazing! Thanks again.. 🙏😊
Last year I rode in First Class on Italo and Trenitalia high speed trains between Milan and Venice before boarding Trenitalia's Exceuvie Class to Rome where I was robbed shortly after arrival. Did I look loaded?
EU toilet fees are embarrassing
Fun fact: Roma Termini is actually named after some Roman baths, it's a happy coincidence that it makes sense in English
If you get a cartafreccia (they’ve made it easier to apply outside Italy recently) you get one free upgrade just for signing up. If you get status you also get more upgrades. But if you get one of these upgrades then upgrading from business to executive is VERY worthwhile on a trip this length. To upgrade you need to buy a full price ‘base’ fare but given an upgrade to executive is worth it
My policy is executive class for anything over 90 minutes. Maybe a lot more expensive than business class but if you look at flexible first anytime tickets in the UK an executive fare suddenly seems good value. I’m normally booking at short notice so rarely get the advance purchase offers in the cheaper classes. What’s annoyed me is they’re phasing out the other Frecce train brands so now we have some trains called Frecciarossa that don’t have executive class. They’d be the perfect fit for Frecciargento.
So as I’ve never been in business class more than 90 minutes can you tell me if the welcome drink is literally just a welcome drink or will they give you more throughout the day if you’re on the train for a while?
I was thinking of taking a train trip through Italy. You just gave me a wonderful idea. Thanks for spreading the word.
For traveling in January, you still got a decent amount of daylight.
It would be interesting to know how people actually make use of this super-long route, i.e. if they just travel on bits and pieces of the route or if many use it to go full or almost full length from Torino/Milano to south of Napoli or v.v.
I live in Torino so thank you for this video!!♥
FANTASTIC
Another great video Nonstop Eurotrip, I lived in Sicily in the 1990s and took the train from Messina to Roma or Milano quite a few times
😂😂😂 you don't know how easy you have it these days
In the 80s I went by train (using Interrail) from London to Siracuse
Overnight couchette from Calais Maritime to Naples. A couple of days in Naples and then to Regio. The journey along the Med from Naples was delightful. A couple of days in Regio and then train to Siracuse
Several days in Sicily and then overnight train from Siracuse to Firenze. The train was packed and was held for 6 hours by a lightning strike by Italian rail staff. I spent most of the journey in the corridor on on of the flip down seats
Anyway Firenze was nice and from there up into Switzerland, returning via Germany and Netherlands on Hoek to Harwich ferry where I got turned over by UK customs looking for cannabis. They had the delightful experience of emptying my rucksack of all of my fermentating underwear 😂😂
Great days….
Love your Eurotrips 😀
Nice trip. Think I'd want to stop off at many of the cities for a night or 2 rather than rush from one end of the country to the other..
I wonder why they need so many tunnels during that part of the journey?
Fun fact: the ETR.500s are classified as EMUs without being EMUs, since they have two power cars both in front and behind (similar to the ICE 1 in Germany). It was more of a marketing strategy back in the days in order to give them a proper “high speed train” image
Just did a few different train journeys in Italy back in June. Did a Frecciarossa 1000 trip, one on Italo, one on the Frecciabianca, and a few other regional ones. The Frecciarossa was my favorite.
17:15 I'd swap the 3 kV DC to 25 kV AC to increase speeds without risking power surges
6:25 Which gives the train an average speed of 120.363 km/h (74.728 mp/h).
I would always option the train – if only we had more of them in AU!….
the best thing about the ETR500 you rode is that some of those carriages are from the mid-late nineties, it is incredible to know they are that old and still so comfortable
Small note about train reversals: the new Firenze Belfiore underground station is under construction, and it's due to be completed in 2028. This will be the new high speed train hub for the city, and it will get rid of train reversals in Firenze SMN, cutting travel time by 10-15 minutes. Regarding Rome and Naples, they could theoretically use Naples Afragola and Rome Tiburtina passthrough stations for this train, to cut off some more travel time, but I guess stopping at the main station makes sense to draw more passengers.
Why do they place people facing each other? It's so embarrassing.
Brilliant video. Thanks for that
The window alignment on the Executive Class is horrible. Kind of amazing our YouTuber glossed over this.
As such, no way I would pay a premium price or even a standard price for a bulkhead "view".
Venus was named Aphrodites in greek; Athena was Juno in latin. Did you know that you could have a refund for that 40 min delay? You get some money back if the delay exceeds 5 minutes, but you have to ask for it (and keep your ticket of course).
👍🏻
Excellent service from Bologna to Florence for a day trip
