Bonn Travel Vlog β Our Visit to Bonn, Germany! π©πͺ
In this Bonn travel vlog, we spend the day exploring the charming city of Bonn, Germany! πΌ
Bonn is a beautiful city on the Rhine with plenty to see and do. Weβve packed some of the best things to do in Bonn into this travel vlog to give you a taste of what itβs like to visit this historic German city.
We visited some of Bonnβs most iconic sights, including the Beethoven House β the birthplace of composer Ludwig van Beethoven β and spent time walking through the cityβs pretty old town and market square.
Bonn was once the capital of West Germany and we explored the area around the old federal government buildings and the UN Campus.
We also stopped by the excellent Haus der Geschichte, a free museum that tells the story of modern German history in a really engaging way. We were fascinated by the Nach Hitler (After Hitler) exhibit which tells the story of modern Germany confronting its National Socialism past.
We also had fun visiting the famous Haribo store and the Lindt chocolate shop, two must-see spots for any sweet tooth visiting Bonn. We stocked up!
Bonn is super easy to reach from Cologne and makes a great day trip if youβre in the region. Whether you’re into history, music or just want to enjoy a picturesque riverside city, Bonn is well worth a visit.
We had a great time filming this Bonn travel vlog and hope it gives you some inspiration for your own trip!

Bonn has 320,000 inhabitants and a catchment area of ββanother 500,000 people. Nevertheless, Bonn itself is in the catchment area of ββthe even larger city of Cologne. Bonn is older than London, but the same age as Cologne, yet has always been in Cologne's shadow. Bonn has two magnificent palaces. One is located in the Botanical Garden, and the other has a vast meadow that can accommodate almost 300,000 people, where large demonstrations took place during Bonn's time as the capital. It has been a university city since 1818 (today with 46,500 students) and a long-standing twin city of Oxford. The southern part of the city was once an independent city, boasts a real knight's castle (Godesburg) and is a spa town, and is therefore not simply called Godesberg, but Bad Godesberg (Bad = Bath). The Rheinhotel Dreesen there is a grand hotel that has hosted celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin (etc.). Hitler chose it as his power base in the Rhineland, and later the Allies used it as the headquarters of all three High Commissions of the occupying powers (France, USA, and Great Britain) before they moved to nearby Petersberg. Bad Godesberg is also the district with many villas and therefore an attractive location for embassies and diplomats when Bonn became the capital. Between Bonn and Bad Godesberg there is a large park with a lake and a Japanese garden where events are constantly taking place. On the edge of the park is the former seat of government, which you briefly showed, the UN Campus, a convention center and two broadcasters; one is the international broadcaster DW (Deutsche Welle). Across the Rhine lies the district of Beuel, from which a centuries-old carnival tradition, Weiberfastnacht, originates. Beethoven was born here but also the German artist painter August Macke.
Bonn is home to 6 federal ministries (including the Ministry of Defense) that only have a second office in Berlin, while the President has his second office in Bonn. Bonn is also the headquarters of DHL, T-Mobile (Telekom) and Haribo. It is also the headquarters of one of Europeβs largest egg liqueur producers, Verpoorten. The German Aerospace Agency is based here and many research institutes, as well as the University Hospital Bonn with 9,500 employees and 400,000 patients annually. There are important museums such as the Bundeskunsthalle, the German Museum of Technology or the House of History you have shown. In spring, Bonn attracts many visitors, especially from Japan, when the cherry trees bloom in the Nordstadt district. Bonn is generally a very green city, Bonnβs city limits also include ~20 kmΒ² of forest.
