Hey guys, if someone asks us, what was the best part of our Japan trip. Our answer without a doubt will be Kyoto. It is something else, every corner of Kyoto has so many stories to tell, there is culture, heritage, history, good food, nature and what not. You name good things in life and you will find it in every corner of Kyoto. Words will fall short if we start explaining how we felt in this city but we tried our best to put it into words.
In this video we have covered how we spent 3 days in Kyoto;
Day 1
Started our day with most iconic streets of Kyoto – Ninnenzaka and Sannenzaka. Both these streets have cultural importance as it was built around 1200 years ago. It is stone paved streets lines up with wooden machiya houses, now converted into cafes, shops and restaurants. Very lively place, you can shop handmade products here, buy souvenirs, try local food, do tea ceremonies, wear traditional kimono attire and what not.
After wearing Kimono, taking some good pictures and exploring these 2 time machine like streets, we went to one of the oldest temple of Kyoto – Kiyomizu Dera Temple. The architecture of the temple is very unique, the main temple has been built without using a single nail.
Time: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Entry Fees: INR 250
Then we went to another temple called Kodaiji Temple – which was built in 1605 by Nene to honour her late husband. The temple has beautiful garden, tea room and a bamboo grove.
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Entry Fees: INR 350
We ended our day with some coffee at starbucks and souvenir shopping at Ghibli Store in Ninnenzaka.
Day 2
This day we took a day trip to Arashiyama and ofcourse our first stop was the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, which is the longest stretch of Bamboo plantation around 500mtrs. It was pretty crowded, so we did not spend much time here.
Time: Open 24 hours
Entry Fees: Free
Our main reason to come to Arashiyama was a very intriguing temple called Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple. It is around 2 kms from the Bamboo forest and not so popular amongst tourist. But it is 100% worth visit, it has a mystical vibes to it because of the 1200 rakan statues covered with moss. It seems like you are in some Historical Drama.
Time: 9:00 AM to 4:15 PM
Entry Fees: INR 290
Next stop was another unique temple, which was just 500 mtrs away from Otagi Nenbutsuji. This one was a burial ground before and people used to just dump bodies here for Wind Burial, it was a known practice back then. The Temple is dedicated to people who have no one in their life, it is home to the lonely soul. Name of the temple is Adashino Nenbutsuji. It also has a small stretch of Bamboo grove and it is much much better than the famous one.
Time: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Entry Fees: INR 290
Day 3
This was our last day in Kyoto, and of course, we had to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha. The hill behind the main shrine has over 10,000 Torii gates lined up closely, forming a magical tunnel-like path. As you climb higher, it truly feels like you’re being transported to a different era. Fox statues, vermillion gates, lush greenery, the scent of incense, and offerings, everything adds to the mystical atmosphere. Yes, itβs very crowded, but hereβs the trick: climb more steps to find peace and quiet and If you donβt want to hike then try reaching early in the morning.
Time: Open 24 hours
Entry Fees: FREE
We ended our trip at Gion district famous to spot Geisha. It is such a beautiful place, lantern lit lanes, traditional teahouses, ancient wooden buildings, windning lanes, Kamo River takes you to a completely different time and world. A must visit place if you want to understand art and culture of Japan.

Japan has mastery in presentation, everything is neat and clean. And busy city squares are so quiet no honking nothing. Hard for me to imagine people being so considerate.
