Thai Airways SHOCKING First Class (EVERYTHING CHANGED)

Thai is back, baby. It is time to experience their latest and greatest first class. This flight is about to sawy slap. Join me, Dan, the luckiest guy on earth who gets to live my dream of flying for a living, reviewing airlines on self-paid tickets for you guys. My first ever first class flight was on Thai Airways, and that was preandemic. A lot has changed at the airlines since then. from a pandemic low to well something much better. Let’s check it out. Things are about to get very very interesting. We are flying Thai Airways first class. It’s been a while. Let’s go check in. To start the experience, you can use the exclusive first class check-in area which is surprisingly massive. Unlike many other dedicated first class areas, Thai fully embraces the concept that you can just sit down. They take your passport and then you relax while everything is handled. If you didn’t check in on them, you would have no idea they’re even checking you in. Maybe they’re just taking photos of your passport and leaking them on the dark web. As you’re chilling there, you’re given a bottle of Evian. And for us a geeks, there’s some Thai Airways memorabilia to enjoy. Considering Tai has three routes with first class and at most a few dozen first class seats per day, this check-in area is very impressive. Wow. Tai has really pimped out their first class check-in. It is stunning. When Oscar and I had just started to travel at 19 years old, we were sitting right here on our first ever first class flight where I redeemed United points for the craziest points redemption I still think I’ve ever had to fly from Bangkok to Sydney. And I guess this was March 2017. But the funny thing is we didn’t have an Australian e visa or visa waiver. As we were sitting here, the staff was helping us panicked try to get the visa in time before the flight. And luckily, we did. And that is still one of my favorite flights we have ever taken in the nose of the 747. My brain isn’t quite awake yet, I think. But anyhow, next we head through priority security and immigration with no line whatsoever. And then we’re escorted by a Thai agent who rolls our bags all the way to the lounge. There have been quite a few location changes for the Thai first class lounge in the past 5 years or so. The latest location is across from the old first class lounge. We’re the only ones here in what is essentially a Thai Airways restaurant. Sign me up. There are also a few showers and toilets, but that’s it. So, you definitely don’t need to budget extra time to spend here, especially when you could just be enjoying Bangkok or, in our case, getting some extra sleep. The most breathtaking part of this experience is the pandan leaf welcome juice. This is like coconut pandan water. Wait, pandan coconut water. We only got about 6 hours of sleep last night, which to us is nothing because sleep is the most important thing in life. So, we got some nice caffeinated coffee that will hopefully keep us going for a while. Caffeinated. Yeah. As opposed to decaf. And how is it? Nice with soy milk and lots of syrup. No one does scents like the ties. Is this like lemongrass oil scented hot towel presented like this on a tree? Other airlines. Watch and learn. Watch and learn. So Tai has three aircraft in their entire fleet with first class these days. So that considered, it is pretty amazing that they have an a dedicated first class check-in. I’m sure some elite members can use that, but still this dedicated first class lounge. Obviously, if you ever flew Thai Airways first back in the day, like the first time when we flew in 2017, you got a 1-hour complimentary massage. 1 hour. They had the biggest selection of Thai foods that were made fresh in the lounge, so you could get anything customized however you wanted. Now, everything is pre-made in a catering facility. I’ll show you the menu. So, I’m still very impressed when you consider the size of their first class footprint. Let’s start with the drinks, shall we? Smoothies, coldressed juices. Yum. This might be my favorite page. Thai iced coffee. Iced coffee float. Aphogato. Thai iced tea, butterfly pea juice. So many insanely delicious sugary drinks. Also, this lemonade selection. Wow. When it comes to alcohol, we’ve got goette champagne, changing beer, which I’m not sure how to pronounce, but I’m sure a lot of people will appreciate. We’ve also got a bunch of spirits and liquors right here. Finally, probably the biggest airline selection of cocktails I have ever seen. Pause to read the specifics if you’re interested. In terms of food, the menu starts with a western selection, and it cracks me up that they’ve got a shrimp cocktail for some reason. The next page has some delicious sounding dim sum. Taro and barbecue buns are majorly delicious. And of course, they also stock a Thai classic spring rolls. Next, randomly, a soup and snack menu. And then Chinese food, which is interesting since they don’t actually offer first class to China. Maybe a Japanese menu would be cool since two out of three first class flights they operate go to or from Japan. Next, a western breakfast page again. And hidden in the middle is a sea salt macadamia brownie. How amazing does that sound? Now for the obvious Thai light. See what I did there? The Thai section. Here you’ve got your pad thai, your tom yam, your pomelo salad. They also have a few western mains if you prefer. Finally, an enormous dessert menu. And can I also just point out that butterfly pea panakota because Okay, breakfast time. Got some spring rolls, got some Chinese steamed vegetables, which look like they’re in a nice sauce with some tofu. They also gave me congi, which uh I shall not be eating today. So, let’s see. Wow. Nice spring roll. Weird. It’s super sweet. After about 45 minutes in the lounge, where we remained the only guest the whole time, we’re escorted to the gate where we’re able to jump every queue thanks to our amazing first class agent. He even tells us he’s informed the Thai ground team in Tokyo of our short connection so they can help us handle that. That is first class treatment if I ever saw it. Now, let’s board this beauty. Last year, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. And you might be like, Dane, why the heck are you telling me this? I’m going to tell you more about it in another video, but I’m saying it because I finally managed to get one of the most important tools I’ve been using to manage it to sponsor a video, namely Headspace. Headspace is an everyday mental health app that makes mindfulness more approachable. I’ve been using Headspace periodically for 7 to 8 years, but when I was diagnosed, I realized that I can’t play around with managing my stress anymore. So Headspace has become invaluable to me. Even small amounts of tension can have a negative impact on health. So I turn to Headspace for structure. Just a few minutes of guided breathing or mindfulness exercises throughout the day can make a huge difference. It helps me reset when things get a bit overwhelming, and that’s especially relevant when I’m traveling or when I’m in a public spot like an airport. Headspace is proven to increase happiness and reduce stress in just 10 days. There are exercises for pretty much any situation. Whether you’re having a hectic day, whether you’re on a flight and you need to calm down, or let’s say you just landed in a new city and you’re overwhelmed after a stressful day and you just want to calm down, Headspace has you covered. If you want to give Headspace and mindfulness and guided breathing a try, you can do it completely for free for 60 days by scanning the QR code right here or by clicking the link at the top of the description. Now, those 60 days could change your health and your stress levels for the better with just a few minutes of exercises a day. I couldn’t recommend it more. Today, we’re on the most premium bird in Tai’s fleet and the only aircraft that retains first class. As I mentioned earlier, there are only three of these in their fleet, featuring 255 economy seats, 40 business class seats, and eight first class seats. In first class, the two rows are arranged in a standard 121 configuration with Oscar seated in 1K today and me in 2K. The only other passenger is seated across from us in 18. Tai has fitted two lavatories exclusively for first class, resulting in a lavatory ratio of at most 1 to4, but most of the time first class won’t be full. And today, just three passengers are sharing two lavatories. So, of course, there was never a wait. With that, let’s hop on board. Welcome to Royal First Class, guys. Here’s where you and me will be sharing a seat today. The lovely crew welcome us by name and immediately deliver a piping hot towel on a tray that is accompanied by a bottle of Aquapana water, our headphones, and a Thai dessert box. More on that in a second. When asked what I want for my pre-eparture drink, there’s only really one acceptable choice. The number one thing you cannot miss if you fly Thai Airways in any premium cabin is their butterfly pea lime aid. It is the best. Etihad has a butterfly pea juice, but I think they just add a bit more sugar to this and makes it even better. So, oh my gosh, it is very sweet. bordering on too sweet, but it is so freaking good. Given that we’re flying to Japan, boarding is scheduled for just 20 minutes. That means there really isn’t time for much until the safety video starts playing and we are pushing back. You know, I would love to see Thai invest in a safety video that showcases the beauty of Thailand. I really think that would elevate things even further, but I’m glad to see that inflight magazine SASD is still around and it features a fleet guide. Very important stuff. During our taxi, the parser comes by to welcome us on board. Every member of the crew kneels on every interaction, bows when they’re leaving, and are overall just absolutely delightful and amazing. I don’t always feel that service on Thai fully represents Thai hospitality, but today, yeah, the Thai hospitality is on the plane with us. That is for sure. Luckily, my camera stabilization is good because with the job I’m doing holding it still, you’d think the runway was made from gravel. [Music] [Music] [Applause] Now, as we wait for the seat belt sign to go off, let’s check out our menu for today. In terms of food, we start out with caviar. And then it’s breakfast time, which is a little bit unfortunate because that’s always the least exciting airline meal. With a departure time of 7:45 a.m., breakfast of course makes sense, though. Later on in the flight, if you want to eat, there are only a few snacks, but I am cracking up at the length of the description of the Thai option compared to the chicken lasagna. The drink list compared to the food menu is very extensive. Starting with this partnership with Mandarin Oriental. How premium is that? The champagne on board is Lauron Perier Grand. And next we have our wines. Sorry, this is quite shaky and out of focus. Finally, their delicious signature drinks. That cocktail sounds good, too. As does the Thai iced tea with grass jelly. For those who like drip coffee, Tai offers that on board as well. Immediately went to see what sign went off. The crew came around, gave us our drinks set up for trade tables. So, we’re getting started efficiently and quickly today. Let me try this. I’ve never had the tamarind tea on Thai before. Oh my goodness. Maybe I have had this. This is better than the butterfly pea lime. Okay, now you got to try this tamarind tea. Fantastic. It’s like a sweet drink. It’s not just a tea. It’s amazing. I just have to say that normally these days I asked the crew if I can see some of the regular meals for a photo. And apparently every single passenger in first class today ordered a special meal. So they didn’t even cater the regular dishes that you saw on the menu. They have a few of the snacks and the caviar. So, they’re going to show me that. But yeah, that’s kind of funny that everyone is a special meal person today. Wow, this is amazing. By the way, we might as well try these little fruit snacks. I know it’s a dessert, but it says it’s made from sweet bean paste. Also contains coconut milk. So, how about we start with a pink one? Ooh. Wow. This is like a like a what? Like a light sugar. Wow. Sweet. But like most Thai desserts, not too sweet. Has a nice fruity touch. Jelly meets cake almost. Now my microphone is working. Woo. Hopefully you heard what I was saying. Let me show you around the seat now because this is a very different first class seat. Um, calling it very different might be an exaggeration. What I mean is that the seat itself is relatively small. Fantastic and spacious, just small. The seaw walls are just about high enough to cover you when seated. And although there are no doors, you have a small privacy screen to your side. In front of you, there’s a little closet for hanging a jacket or blazer. And under the entertainment screen, we have our largest storage compartment. Then above that, another compartment where we can place a smaller item like the headphones or the amenity kit. Moving closer to us, we have some basic seat control buttons and then more advanced controls on this screen below. Finally, there’s a little compartment with a remote and behind that, a larger storage compartment for your knickknacks. [Music] In terms of charging, there are two USBA ports and an AC outlet. That’s it for the tour. Oh, and this orchid, which elevates things a lot. I can’t tell if it’s real or plastic. So, I guess if it’s fake, nice job. [Music] Anyway, just 25 minutes after takeoff, my tray table is set. Look at this buddy dining. Some airlines have this in first class. It is awesome, buddy. Uh, it was Oscar’s idea to do this. Actually, I hadn’t even thought of it, but obviously there’s a seat belt here where I’m sitting, too, and Oscar’s in my seat, so we have safety covered. It’s a bit bumpy, so sorry if the food shots are a bit wonky, but I mean, we’re both blown away by this fruit plate. Stunning. I have no words. Yes. Literally, if you’re going to serve fruit, this is how you serve it, you know. Yeah. And this is so Thai. I mean, making even an apple look like a piece of art. Uh, and this dragon fruit. They made something very stunning out of something so simple. And then we have uh what looks like berser musli with a ton of berries on top. And the flight attendant was so cute. She said, “This is the Chinese dough. I would like you to try it, please.” Like, she’s so so so cute and so good. And she was like explaining what the different sides are. So, we’re going to try the Chinese dough. We’re going to try the fruit. And uh we’ll let you know how it is. So, let’s try all the different foods. This gives off very dry vibes. Oh my god, it’s so creamy. It’s definitely made with coconut cream. Delicious. M. Wow, that was so above my expectations. Now, let’s try Chinese dough dipped in pandan. She said it’s coconut cream, not milk. So, let’s see. Considering it’s like quite early, I’m not sure we should be having this. But wow, that is extremely tasty. Tastes like a freshlymade doughut dipped in the sweetest pandan sauce. Okay, I’m actually amazed how good the food tastes. I don’t think I need to review the taste of the fruit cuz you guys know how fruit tastes, but um so far so good. Yeah, buddy dining is a wonderful concept. Something you can even do in certain bulkhead business class seats these days. Before we move to the main course, may I just draw your attention to the cutlery? How stunning is this? So, the crew have given us a look at the chicken lasagna from the menu. It’s from the Anytime menu. This is what they have available. Looks like it looks. And then we have our meal here. Vegetarian oriental, so Chinese style. some big noodles, some tofu, mushrooms in a golden kind of sauce. So, I’ll let you know how this tastes. Maybe not the most gourmet feeling dish in terms of presentation and everything, but you know what? The start of this meal was so nice, so I don’t mind. Yeah, my standards are high when it comes to first class, but Tai is delivering so well in almost every area. We have got to be constructive about some things. Okay, the crew today are just so amazing. Honestly, this is insane. They prepared the Thai meal from the anytime menu as well for us, which looks stunning. Literally, they said just for you to take photo. You can eat it if you want, but that’s fine. So that you guys can see the different meal options. Obviously, all the food from this flight will unfortunately be thrown out after the flight anyway regardless. So, at least now it has some use in that we get to showcase it. But this both smells and looks incredible. So, now it’s finally time to try our main course, which uh yeah, looks can be deceiving. Actually, very nice. Again, the presentation I think could be spruced up a bit, but flavor-wise, great. We have protein, we have vegetables, we have a bunch of noodles. So, yeah, I we are enjoying ourselves a lot. Final part of the meal, dessert. Of course, I’m just analyzing what makes this so incredible. And this is the dessert from the Anytime menu, the Thai dessert platter or something like that. And there’s just a few things like adding the banana leaf under the dish with the Thai branding even makes it even more special. Although it’s such a gimmick, the gold leaf really does just add that little whoop that makes it feel even more special. And the little flower, it’s just stunning. So, this is a very cute little tray, right, of Thai desserts. And we love Thai desserts in this seat. Seat 2 kilo, me and Oscar. Oh, and the crew are even kind enough to show off their caviar selection. No one on board is eating this today, so I’ll save it for you guys. If you see me in person, just ask and I’ll whip out my tin of caviar. In all seriousness, beautiful. The presentation of the caviar itself might be one of the nicest I’ve ever seen. After all that fun, which is over just 70 minutes after takeoff, it’s of course time to get comfy. So, this is a daytime flight, 6 hours, but they still gave us pajamas. I mean, I guess a lot of airlines, most airlines in first class give you pajamas on a 6-hour daytime flight. This is from Boogie Milano. Let me change into it. Let’s do a Sims transition real quick. Let me move you guys around. Whoa. Okay. So, maybe not exactly the most fashionable. They have a certain sheen to them and not sheen the website, but like you know what I mean. I love this. This is very like not even subtle flex, just big flex. This is also quite nice having a zipper like this. Most importantly, they are very comfortable. Where did I change? Not in my seat. Goodness. the lady in 1A would be a ghast. Instead, I visited one of the two first class lavatories, which are of course kept spotless throughout the flight. There are a few different amenities in here and proper towels to dry your hands. Overall, I truly didn’t expect amenities on the level we’re getting here. And just wait until you see what is next. So, we have a few more things to check out. This is one of the few things I I have to keep saying this in videos because otherwise someone will always comment, “Can you keep the headphones?” No, you can never keep business or first class headphones on flights unfortunately. But here we have these beautiful headphones from AKG that we can use in flight. Noise cancelling. Says first class on the box. So this is it. I’ll let you know how they are. Um but of course what matters even more is entertainment selection. So we’ll check that out. The first, the coolest and most premium part of this flight without a doubt is the amenity kit which is presented in this beautiful yellowish golden bag that says Thai Royal First. This we do get to keep. Let me show you what brand the kit is from because this is where it gets crazy. Our amenity kit is from La Mer. This, if you don’t know this brand, it is one of the most expensive skinincare brands in the world. Thai has always really invested in their first class amenity kits. They used to have Ramova, but this I mean La Mer Thailand. This is such a flex. This is amazing. Let me open this up and show you guys what is inside. Wow. I’ve never tried a La Mer product before. It’s honestly like it just feels like a ripoff to me. But if you’re getting them included in your ticket price, then I don’t mind. No, this is actually pretty crazy. These three full on La Mer product that this is worth at least $100. This right here at retail prices. That is crazy. This cream I’m going to put up on screen what all of this costs per ounce because we got 1 oz of the treatment lotion, 1 oz of the hand treatment, 24 oz of the moisturizing cream. Then in addition to that, we get a free 45minute facial at the La Mer Spa in Bangkok, which is valid until the 31st of December 2026 upon showing this voucher. Worth 5,000 bot for this 45minute facial. Are you kidding me? As I said, it’s not like I’m a La Mer product fan, but this is just to emphasize how valuable this is as a gift. You know, if you’re not interested in this at all, giving this as a gift to your wife or girlfriend or best friend or whoever, someone will hugely appreciate all this stuff. Honestly, this has to be the best amenity kit I have ever received. In addition to the luxurious products, just getting a 45minute uber luxury facial for free that is valid for a year and a half after your flight at any location in Bangkok. That is just incredible. And the bag is such a flex. Well done, Tai Airways. On this front, you may have noticed in the background as I was talking about that that our bed has been made. Oscar and I both had our beds prepared in the seat next to us because these are empty. So, it’s time to try out the bed. Wow, this flight is really exceeding expectations. Even the bed exceeds expectations. This is also very comfortable. We have a nice mattress, two plush pillows, I mean a mustard yellow blanket, but we’re not going to criticize the color choice. Wow, I’m so so happy. And now I realize the point of this because when you’re in bed mode, it adds a lot of privacy just so that your face isn’t like jetting out into the aisle. So, another amazing part of this, I mean, it’s such a shame this is only available on three routes because I think that Thai could really build up a competitive product if they just offered this to more connecting passengers. We need this to Australia again, like Oscar, my first flight, Bangkok, Sydney. We need this to I’m sure they could sell it to Hong Kong even on a short flight. Some other European destinations like Paris. Yeah, wishful thinking. Now, just on the topic of sleep, there are no individual air vents on Tai. Luckily, the cabin is kept quite cool throughout our flight today, so sleep would not be a problem. Final thing to show you in the amenities department is the slippers. They’re sort of giving grandma, but work, I guess. They’re probably comfortable. Let’s try. They’re soft, but as always in Asia, way too small for us. [Music] Work’s done. Time for a breath exercise with Headspace before I ordered a few cool drinks. So, first of all, Japanese green tea, which we’ll try first. This is more common obviously on all types of airlines, but it truly is green. Real green tea. Yum. Always yum. But then, mainly for you guys, I ordered the RRV. I’ll put the the description here because the description is wonderfully elaborate. I love when things have an interesting backstory and a history and local ties. So, you know, we have Thai rose syrup. Uh something some royal connection champagne. Uh so, let’s try this. Wa! Oh my goodness. Wa! That is incredible. Thai with the drinks nails it. Get this if you’re in Thai first. If you like rose flavored stuff, if you like champagne, get that. That is wow. So good. Then with that, they also handed out this box of chocolates. What I’m really starting to love about Thai overall is that there’s so many branded collabs, which I think really makes the experience feel more premium. And there’s also so many Thai brands. So the collab with this Thai brand, Canella, that’s a Thai brand. We had these Thai suites at the Cedop boarding. I just love all the cultural elements, the Thai elements that are incorporated in the experience. This is something I really appreciate when airlines do, whether it’s Fin Air or, you know, Virgin Atlantic tying in the Essex experience in a good way. Um, but the flavors of these chocolates sound beyond amazing. Mango sticky rice, soft mung bean crepe, coconut pandan, macadamia latte. That is Wow. I also want to quickly talk about the service cuz it deserves to be spoken about. The crew is remarkable. I’m not surprised being Thailand, but literally they will hand you something and then they will bow and walk away and they will say, “Thank you.” as they do everything. So, they will give me this and they’ll be like, “Thank you so much, sir.” And I’m like, “No, thank you.” [Music] I spend the next hour or so working and the crew keep coming by to give me snacks, which I love. Of course, these wasabi snacks are amazing. Well, we are just an hour and a half from Tokyo. And the crew offered our pre-landing snack, which is some tofu with noodles. And here’s the thing, these noodles, when you see noodles like this, you know that this could either be extremely delicious or it could be the opposite. It’s either or usually. So, let’s dig in and try it. Oh, okay. There’s mushrooms in it. Maybe not my favorite thing I’ve eaten. And definitely flavor low light of the flight, but I’ll have the tofu. And uh we’ll call it a day. If you haven’t tried these and you live somewhere, you can get these. This is not from Thai, but we bring them on every flight. Not sponsored. Oh my gosh, these are good. The fudge brownie flavor. Yeah, that is some seriously delicious stuff. There is so much deliciousness on this flight and even by first class standards, time has gone by so fast. Before I know it, we’re approaching Narita. As we descend, I have my first chance to check out the entertainment system. This is about on par with most airlines in the region. Not exhaustive, but not bad. [Music] I’d probably bring my own entertainment just in case. The good news is that there’s free Wi-Fi in first class and it works with decent speeds throughout the whole flight today. My favorite use of inflight Wi-Fi during descent is, of course, to see which aircraft are in front of us on approach and at Narita around 3:30 p.m. That is incredibly exciting because it is so busy. [Music] Finally, the crew come by to thank us for flying with Tai. Woah, that was the most stunning in-flight farewell I have ever witnessed on any flight ever. The purser and the two first house flight attendants all came by at the same time, kneelled next to my seat, did the tie bow and thanked me so much for flying with them, asked how my flight was. They did that to everyone on board. I am overwhelmed at the cuteness of that gesture. [Music] All in all, Thai first class in 2025 way exceeded my expectations in almost every way. As you can tell, from the warm service to the impressive drinks to industry-leading amenities, Thai First Class has most of the things people look for in a First Class product, and I cannot wait to fly it again. Before you go, I’m sure you’re wondering how I paid for this flight. Because, quick reminder, I pay for all my own flight reviews. The airlines are not involved whatsoever so that I can give as honest and unbiased a review as possible. So, drum roll for the insane amount I paid for this flight. The normal cash price is about $2500 per person. One way from Bangkok to Tokyo, I paid $880 per person using tricks that I teach, of course, in my points master program where I have helped over a,000 of you guys upgrade your travels to go to flying premium cabins for 20 to 80, sometimes 90% off the regular price. 1. Hi @nonstopdan Apparently Thai also flies their 777-300ER with the First Class Suites to London from BKK too at the request of His Majesty The King of Thailand.

  2. When you are drinking Evian please remember what it spells backwards. Lets try the food now takes one mouthful of noodles and declares it great tasting. Yes they can throw the uneaten food away at the end of a flight because when you buy your ticket you are buying not just a seat but one portion of meal on that flight.

  3. Cracking review. Big up Thai Airways. Hoping your health stabilises, I live with a health condition that makes travel challenging so your reviews help me – not that I can go this posh!

  4. the chinese dough was so good that they were selling that as a side hustle while grounded during the pandemic. people would line up before 6am and the line was 2 hours long 😂

  5. Have flown Thai Airways Royal Silk business class several times, but never their first class product. Super excited to try this out.
Also, the Tamarind tea is one of the absolute best beverages in the sky. I drank like 6 glasses of them on a recent Thai Airways flight (BKK-IST)

  6. I don't want to be the bummer, but based on my experience with Thai Airways, which is not even close to yours, if you are not a "Farang," especially as a Thai, you will be treated like a third-rate human regardless of how much you have paid.
