Hello everyone and welcome to my channel. In today’s video of discover Greece, I’ll take you to a place which is in
the top 10 destinations on Crete Island. Agios Nikolaos which is just over an hour away
east from Heraklion airport by car. I will show you footage I
took driving through the town by foot walking around the
bottomless lake Voulismeni and the must seen footages from above by drone. I will fast forward the video partially to shorten

Nik as the British visitors love to call it or Saint Nicholas. This is the capital town of Lassithi. Agios Nikolaos is a tourist town
that serves as a hub to about 20 small villages and farms that
make up that part of Lassithi. It is a medium-sized town with a small city feel, one that has a lot to offer,
with rich history too. It has an enviable location on hilly terrain
overlooking the curving bay of Mirabello. The character of Agios Nikolaos offers a charismatic flare with three
faces opening it to the sea. The lake and port, Kitroplatia beach and the marina. Its unique features start with the
lake Voulismeni a deep body of water that is connected to the sea by a narrow inlet. It is surrounded and overlooked
by cafes and restaurants. A busy gathering place for locals,
residents and visitors alike. The Voulismeni Lake, the town’s
jewel and one of the landmarks. It is known for its many legends and I
will tell you more about them shortly. Voulismeni lake is a small deep circular lake in the center of Agios Nikolaos known
locally as the bottomless lake. The name remains from its historical
depth being about 64 meters deep and having many myths of goddesses bathing there. Like almost everything in Crete, the
lake is surrounded by several legends. According to one in Greek mythology of
Athena and Artemis bathing in its waters. The sweet water lake becomes one
with the sea through a narrow canal and is surrounded by red rock
formations and lush vegetation. During the day, the town has
a sleepy, relaxed feeling, but at night, the waterfront bars and cafes offer
a fun, vibrant atmosphere and are open until late. Around the lake, there are several bars and
restaurants, making the place animated at night. Cafes meander between those suited
for talking, meeting, and lounging to those all playing kinds of music. Shopping is fun in Agios Nikolaos. There are shops with original items on offer from woven fabrics to cups, mugs, china
wear and a rich selection of clothes, house decor, local food products and delicacies. Agios Nikolaos apart from
being summer drawn for visitors is for the most part open in winter. Yes, people live, love and learn here, grow up, function and work all year round. Standard but good taverns are overlooked
by fine-dining establishments. You can walk and enjoy the surroundings along
the way as you have several district waterfronts. You can get to know it quickly and feel
familiar with the place like an old friend. Now comes the best part of the video. You will see Agios Nikolaos from above and enjoy the hilly terrain overlooking
the sensiously curving bay of Mirabello. This is where the video ends. And I would like to thank all of you
