The name of the city is actually pronounced as Xless Baines and not as Xless Baines as we have seen written in some places. It was chosen as the site of the Winter Olympics in 1924. During World War II, it was occupied by German forces, but was liberated by troops from the United Kingdom and Canada in September 1944. The economy of Xless Baines is mainly based on tourism, thermal baths and services.
